Heidi | 2446 comments Melissa how was A Killer Read??

message 5804: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 4 comments Currently I am reading, 'The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe'. It's a real thriller. From the small collection of stories intertwined into a beautiful piece of art, I have learned so much from a book that is supose to send shivers up your spine.

Melissa | 797 comments Heidi (trust me) wrote: "Melissa how was A Killer Read??"

I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one. The story itself was great, but what I also liked was that each chapter had a line from a different mystery book and several characters had reading lists at the end of the book, so I found some more books I haven't read yet.

I agree, Abby was a little annoying, especially the parts where she's bickering with Dutch, she acts like a petulant child.

message 5811: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished A Killing in Antiques (A Lucy St. Elmo Antiques Mystery, #1) by Mary Moody - one star for me. There wasn't much of a mystery; no clues, no systematic sleuthing, only a description of the hunt for antiques ( interesting, but this is supposed to be a murder mystery ). Moreover, we are informed that the heroine got herself in the middle of another murder mystery in the past and was awarded with a bullet in her thigh, but there's not much elaboration on the issue. What really surprised me was that Lucy was completely computer illiterate and didn't know how to use a cell phone. Really? Plus, in the end, she confronts the killer in the most stupid way: she faces him weaponless and simply starts screaming her head off but she manages to escape without being killed. No comment...

Linda Last night I finished Wall-to-Wall Dead. Best of the series, in my opinion.

Hi Zoe. I wonder if you reviewed the book or just rated it with a one star? It sounds like you had some good comments (that the author may be able to use for future books) and there's nothing more frustrating as an author than to get a one star without comment.

I know - it was totally, completely out of character. Nobody with a brain in their head actually thinks they can get ahead that way.

message 5835: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I have just finished two cozies:

Before The Last Lap, book 11 in the Sharyn Howard mystery series. For me, this wasn't as good as some but was still a good read. The only thing I hate is the next book, The First Shall Be Last is the end of the series. I am so bummed.

I also read Double-Booked for Death. It was okay for a first book in the series, maybe a bit over-long but understandable as setting the stage for the characters, etc. I like bibliomysteries so I will definitely read the next one in the series, A Novel Way to Die.

OOOh It took me a minute to get this - There's no Goldie Bear in Fluke's books. You must be reading Diane Mott Davidson's culinary mysteries. I like the character development in this one. I stopped reading her around book 10 and keep meaning to pick this series up again.

message 5841: by Zoe (last edited Apr 27, 2013 07:12AM) (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished Plotting at the PTA (Beth Kennedy #3) by Laura Alden and I really liked it. The truth is that I didn't enjoy the first book but I loved the second one and decided to continue with the series. I revel in the small town atmosphere and its coziness; the characters are likeable (of course Beth should be a little more self-confident and get rid of the guilt complex that very often rears its ugly head, but she seems to have become more extrovert and courageous due to her PTA activities ) and a new love interest seems to have appeared. I have already bought Curse of the PTA (Beth Kennedy #4) by Laura Alden and will soon plunge into Beth and Marina's next adventure!

Barb | 1192 comments Melissa wrote: "The last cozy I read was Red Velvet Cupcake Murder, which really annoyed me with the triangle that won't end."

I wonder if the author isn't aware of all the complaints about the never-ending triangle, or if she just truly doesn't care that she's making so many readers angry enough to stop reading the books?
