:-) That is one of Tey's best but I like them all (she didn't write that many mysteries)…

That is one of my favorite cozy series.

Yes, I've read three now, and only have about 3 to go... sigh. how she escaped me all this time I don't know, but the upside of that is enjoying them so much now.

message 5659: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished Glory's Last Victim. This series just keeps getting better and better. This is book 8. If you read it though try to read in order because the characters do build throughout. I gave this one a 5 star. The sad thing is there are only 4 more. I hope the Lavene's keep writing this series.

I could see that.

message 5661: by Meg (last edited Mar 30, 2013 08:39PM) (new)

Meg (arizonamegs) I finished "A Twist of Orchids", the third in the Michelle Wan series, today. I find her writing style easy and compatible with the other things going on in my life (work, home, travel, etc) and usually finish her books within 1-2 days. I enjoy the characters and how the books interplay one another without being too needy upon eachother (they can be read as stand alone or in a series, I should say) Am looking forward to the fourth and last installment, if can locate; it doesn't seem to be anywhere online to order.

message 5662: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished Every Trick in the Book (A Novel Idea Mystery, #2) by Lucy Arlington and it was a winner! This is one of my favorite series; the mysteries are well crafted and the writing style is wonderful. I'll certainly read the next one entitled "Books, Cooks And Crooks". I can't wait!

message 5663: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I finished Tears of the Giraffe Tears of the Giraffe (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #2) by Alexander McCall Smith audiobook - I was a bit disappointed by the fact there wasn't as much focus on the #1 Ladies Detective Agency as there was in the first book.

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments Just finished A Deal to Die For (Good Buy Girls, #2) by Josie Belle . It was okay, but I think the main character needs to grow up. She acts like she never got beyond high school.

message 5665: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 45 comments I just finished Book, Line and Sinker (Library Lover's Mystery, #3) by Jenn McKinlay , I think it was the best yet in the Library Lovers series, a real page turner!

That's been a turn off to me, too, in some of the cozies I've read.

That's my problem with this series, too. Won't read anymore. It's really surprising to me, since Jenn McKinlay is a much better writer than that. (That's who Josie Belle is, if you didn't know!)

This is a series that grows by leaps and bounds, Heather. Hope you give the 2nd one a shot.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Heather L wrote: "Finished State of the Onion last night. It was okay. I might read the second book in the series if I happened upon it."

Heather - stick with it! This series gets to be so good after the third book, I think. I thought the last one was outstanding. :)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I finished up The Deception at Lyme: Or, The Peril of Persuasion a couple of days ago. Great read!

message 5672: by Linda (new)

Linda Last night I finished The Silence of the Llamas. I enjoyed it, but it seemed to lack the tension of the prior books in this series. Still, it was a good read!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Out of Circulation. I had decided to give up on this series after the last book, but had already bought this one. It's much better and I enjoyed reading it much more than I expected to.

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished Out of Circulation (Cat in the Stacks Mystery, #4) by Miranda James . The previous book in this series was somewhat disappointing, but this one redeemed the series completely. Very good! One of these days I'm going to get myself a Diesel cat!!

message 5687: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished Last Rites by Joyce and Jim Lavene. I'm not sure why Goodreads doesn't credit Jim Lavene with any of this series as the books are all co-written with his wife.

Tis was book 9 of the Sharyn Howard Mystery series. I only gave it 3 stars. It was okay but I didn't feel the energy/tension that emitted from some of the other books in this series. I hope this was just a small slump and that the series picks back up.

I also want to thank the Public Library of Enid and Garfield in Enid OK for loaning me this book through interlibrary loan.

Leslie Denise wrote: "I just finished Last Rites by Joyce and Jim Lavene. I'm not sure why Goodreads doesn't credit Jim Lavene with any of this series as the books are all co-written with his wife..."

GoodReads seems to have some difficulty with co-authors. I have run across it with other duos, where GR only credits one author (for example:The Laughing Policeman is by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö but if you follow the link you will only see Sjöwall's name as author)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Rebecca wrote: "I do have a question... i won a first reads giveaway book back in Dec but never recieved it. Is there anything I can do?"

Rebecca, I think GR first recommends contacting the author/publisher that did the giveaway, and if that doesn't get you anywhere, contact GR directly at "support (at) goodreads.com" (put the @ instead of the (at))

Denise - when I follow your link, Jim Lavene shows up as an author, but he's listed in the secondary slot. All the books I saw on Joyce and/or Jim's author pages show both authors listed, though I notice the mouseovers only show Joyce Lavene (because she's in the primary author slot).

Bandmama (aka Lucy) - Claiming Mitch as mine | 121 comments I finally finished Ghost Ship (A Port Chatham Mystery #2) by P.J. Alderman . message 5699: by Rosalee (new)

Rosalee (Cyndilu) | 13 comments I just finished Portrait of a Dead Guy by Larissa Reinhart.
Cherry Tucker left Halo, went to art school, but is back in Halo with not a lot of demand for portraits or art work. Bills to pay, she vies for the dubious honor of painting the bad boy Dustin Branson in his coffin. Cherry gets drawn in to figuring out how and why Dustin ended up dead, while trying to avoid his step-brother Luke. Is there really organized crime in Halo or has Cherry’s imagination gone wild? As much a comedy as mystery and romance, the plot is well orchestrated and the characters are quirky and fun.
