Laura (minniea) Christie is still the master, isn't she?

Wish to report I just finish a couple more of the C Beaton mysteries --- "Death of an Addict" and "Death of a Dustman". These are cozies, arent they? I mean, it's set in a small town in Scotland, and everyone is always having tea. Very humorous in a wry way, with a hapless constable trying to get along in a modern world. Ultimately finds his intuition about people was right the first time.
BTW I have about 4 of the Beaton novels listed for free on the book swap site, paperbackswap dot com. Just so you know.

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments I just finished Hare Today, Dead Tomorrow (Reigning Cats & Dogs Mystery, #4) by Cynthia Baxter . Sometimes I like her books, and sometimes they are just OK. This one, was a just OK.

I also finished listening to Miss Julia Stands Her Ground (Miss Julia, #7) by Ann B. Ross which I did enjoy.

It's not just the "triangle" that has totally turned me off what was once a favorite series. Hannah isn't the person she used to be, and the characters seems stilted and out of touch with the 21st century anymore.

message 5607: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished The Last Word (A Books by the Bay Mystery #3) by Ellery Adams , a delightful read! Ellery Adams is a truly gifted author and with each book Olivia is turning from "ice queen" into a caring soul discovering the joys of friendship and love.

I've got this one coming up, too. I liked the first one."

Melodie, if I remember correctly, you liked the first one better than I did, so you probably won't find this one as tedious as I did.

message 5609: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I finished Murder Spins a Tale Murder Spins a Tale by Veryl Ann Grace which was OK but not great. 2½ stars. I figured out who did it & why about 2/3 through and so should have the protagonist.

Good to hear the triangle is settled as that one is next for me in that series. Might push me into getting it sooner.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 325 comments I just finished a couple cozies.

Fun read with lots of dogs and a interesting family feud over a brooch.
Desperate Housedogs (Mystery #1) by Sparkle Abbey

The characters were almost too-over-the-top-zany but lots of action, crazy family and a few mysteries - plus it takes place in North Dakota if you are doing any US state challenges

January Exposure by Sunny Benson

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Trouble in the Tarot. Fun read!! :)

Have just finished Aunt Dimity Beats the Devil. Another great read in this series. Think I'll read book seven now, before moving on to something else.

I'm actually holding out hope for Benjamin - for some reason I like him better. But I'm with Heidi - I want the protag to stop "mooning about" (Heidi's perfect word choice) - also, maybe show a bit of spine.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished All Natural Murder. Disliked it intensely. Will not be continuing with the series.

I like Benjamin better, too, but just don't see it happening. Would definitely make the stories interesting, tho!

message 5624: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 45 comments I just finished reading Last Wool and Testament (A Haunted Yarn Shop Mystery, #1) by Molly MacRae and really liked it! I'm not a knitter, but after reading all those descriptions of colorful yarns I'm thinking about visiting the cute little yarn shop in my little downtown! Intelligent female protagonist that packs a punch - I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Being over Lee's "tangled tongue" is why I quit the series. It was cute for a book or 2, but SERIOUSLY??

once again, add me to the list of Dorothy Sayer's Lord Peter fans! Karen, if you haven't read them yet,
there are several more wonderful mysteries featuring Lord Peter - also a large set of short stories.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished Lucky Stiff last night. I love this series and this book was good but geez! I think the author went on a hate fest towards her poor protagonist, Mattie. I hope the next one is more, um, calm.

message 5633: by Leslie (new)

Leslie I just finished A Study in Scarlet - not Doyle's best but it was fun to 'witness' the first impressions Watson has of Holmes :)
