I actually read the first 3 in this series before I quit. She's a good writer, but I agree that she has a HUGE cast of characters that are hard to keep straight. What did me in was all the cheese talk. I am an extremely rare person who detests cheese, so all the cheese stuff nearly gagged me. I am looking forward to the new series Cookbook Nook series she has coming out as Daryl Wood Gerber.

I will!! =)

Ellen (elliearcher) A Burial at Sea A Burial at Sea (Charles Lenox Mysteries #5) by Charles Finch by Charles Finch. At least I think it's a cozy-I love this series, very Victorian, amateur detective Charles Lenox.

Becky I only read the first two in the Hannah series but in my reviews I said that I felt the author dumbed the books down somewhat -- she kept repeating the obvious to me!

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Just finished If Errands Could Killand was appalled at the numerous grammar mistakes. It's almost as if English were not this author's first language. The mystery itself was just plain silly. Will not be reading any more of his work, that's for sure.

Melodie, I'm going to try her new series too. I sure hope she doesn't overwhelm this one with so many characters.

Lesley (laparks) I just finished I, Spy? by Kate Johnson

I got it as a freebie on my Kindle way back in June of 2011 and decided it was past time to get it read!!!

It was cute, and I'm sure I'll read more Sophie Green mysteries at some point!!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished Bonnie of Evidence yesterday. Meh. It was not her best or her worst.

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments Just finished Red Velvet Cupcake Murder (Hannah Swensen #16) by Joanne Fluke and it was a total waste of time. Nothing changes with Hannah and the mystery was tepid at best.

I actually liked this one, thought it was better than some of the other ones.

Totally agree with you, Bibliophile! I am SO completely over this series. Unless something changes BIG TIME, I don't ever intend to pick up another of these...not even for free! (I got my rant on in high gear in my review of this.)

message 5519: by [deleted user] (new)

I wonder if the author has received any suggestions to improve on Hannah's character.

message 5520: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Just finished Murder Well-Done Murder Well-Done (Hemlock Falls Mysteries, #4) by Claudia Bishop and While My Pretty One Knits While My Pretty One Knits (A Black Sheep Knitting Mystery, #1) by Anne Canadeo . I thought both were just okay.

Karen M | 1436 comments I just finished Whose Body? and I have to say I've read a number of the later books and this one was really good. It amazes me how Dorothy L. Sayers'Lord Peter books are great from the very first one in the series.
Sometimes when you start a series you have to read the first couple to really decide if you like the series but not a problem with Lord Peter Whimsey.

Whose Body? (Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries, #1) by Dorothy L. Sayers

I used to love the Hannah Swensen books, but after 16 books they really need to be going somewhere and they have just stagnated.

message 5524: by Denise (new)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished Last Fires Burning. It doesn't seem like many have read this series by Joyce and Jim Lavene. This is number 7 in the series and I have enjoyed them all. One unique thing about this series as compared to many cozies is that the protagonist is a professional law enforcement officer. I hope some of you will give this series a try. (It is the Sheriff Sharyn Howard series.)

The Molly Murphy mysteries take place in NYC at the turn of the 20th century. The Family Way takes place in 1904.

message 5537: by Kaye (new)

Kaye (momgee) | 862 comments Finished The Body in the Boudoir A Faith Fairchild Mystery by Katherine Hall Page and really enjoyed it. I like this series a lot. This one was a little different as Faith is remembering her wedding and the events that led up to it. Mystery part was good too.

message 5538: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished Corpse in the Crystal Ball (Fortune Teller Mystery, #2) by Kari Lee Townsend but I found it to be so-so.Sunny is likeable but she quite often acts silly and immature. I've already bought the next book in the series, but if it doesn't improve, I'll stop reading them.

message 5539: by Lesley (new)

Lesley (laparks) I just finished Playing With Poison by Cindy Blackburn and loved it. I love it when I get a free ebook and it turns out to be a great one! It was a nice light read that only took a couple of hours and maybe it was my headache but I didn't figure out who it was until after Jessie did!!

Putting the next 2 books in the series on my want to read list!!!

message 5540: by [deleted user] (new)

Where did you get it for free, Lesley?

message 5541: by Leslie (new)

Playing with Poison was (maybe still is) a free Kindle book on Amazon. Check out the topic "Cozy Corner -> Cozies on the Kindle - Free or Cheap/Special Price"

Karen, another thread has had some discussion about Five Red Herrings, some people feel it is too long and detailed. but I'm a huge fan to Dorothy Sayer's Lord Peter all the way. to me she kept up the quality of the stories, whether long or short, before and after Harriet Vane, in every book.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) I finished The Christie Curse last night. Excellent read!

I really like Five Red Herrings, but then again I would probably have the same response no matter which of her books you mentioned! :)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just finished Peach Pies and Alibis tonight. Excellent read, but (view spoiler) an unexpected climax!!

message 5548: by Lynne (new)
