What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)

A short while ago I finished reading An Appetite for Murder. It featured a youngish protagonist, and I loved it!
Linda S. wrote: "A short while ago I finished reading An Appetite for Murder. It featured a youngish protagonist, and I loved it!"The second book is also really good! Waiting for the next one to come out in May.
Recently finished listening to the audio of The AppleTurnover Murder by J. Fluke. I mentioned in another thread this was my 1st by this author, and I listened to it [while traveling] because she is a favorite of so many. sorry, but unless her others are better I was disappointed. maybe I'm not a true cozy fan? I like a little more depth to the characters and thought that with the exception of a few clever remarks and situations the books was mainly recipes and chatter about every hour of the day that got very mundane, plus situations that were not at all believable. oh, and I figured out the murderer as soon as he [she] came on the scene. baah. I don't think Ms. Fluke will mind, she is hugely successful and "each to his own taste."
Maryjo wrote: "Recently finished listening to the audio of The AppleTurnover Murder by J. Fluke. I am at a loss as to why everyone loves that series because I found it slow moving and the author kept repeating things so much so that I wanted to shout "we know!"
Kari wrote: "I just finished If Mashed Potatoes Could Dance
I enjoyed it as much as the first but I did not find it a quick read."Ugh! I just picked this one up from the library. Why was it not a quick read??

Maryjo wrote: "Recently finished listening to the audio of The AppleTurnover Murder by J. Fluke. I read the first couple and there was nothing about the books that I liked enough to overcome the love triangle that continues to irritate a lot of people.
I am tempted to buy the cookbook she put out though - sounds like a lot of people really like her recipes...
I finished Murder for the Halibut yesterday, and Melodie is right - it's not as good as the second book. I felt like I slogged my way through it. I have to admit though, I'm not a fan of "remote location" mysteries - where the cast goes away on holiday or whatever and encounter murder and mayhem.I will say I thought the murder plot in this book was truly well done - clever.
❂ Jennifer wrote: "Maryjo wrote: "Recently finished listening to the audio of The AppleTurnover Murder by J. Fluke. I mentioned in another thread this was my 1st by this author, and I listened to it [while traveling]..."oh yes, the recipes were a plus, and I enjoy baking.
yeah the triangle in Joanne Fluke's books annoys me too! don't know if I'll be reading anymore of those.
Read The Heat of the Moon earlier this week. Outstanding! I usually don't like first person narratives but the author used it effectively to tell the story of a young woman who discovers the truth about her family and herself.
Kari wrote: "Heidi (up to no good) wrote: "Kari wrote: "I just finished If Mashed Potatoes Could Dance

Finished Night of the Living Dandelion by Kate Collins night before last -- what a fun edition to the series.
Dizzy wrote: "yeah the triangle in Joanne Fluke's books annoys me too! don't know if I'll be reading anymore of those."Oh dang. I just finished the Sugar Cookie Murder and was so hoping that this triangle thing is resolved soon. Sounds like no . . . .
Since I've got all of the books on my Nook already maybe I'll make this a "fall back too series" when I run out of other cozies, which, based on my growing list thanks to you all is probably never lol.
Just finished Extra Credit. I love this series, but this book sort of reads like it might be the end. Which would be sad.
Leslie wrote: "Just finished Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes,
. I liked it!"Good to know. I got that as a Kindle deal awhile back.
today, I finished Overture to Death by Ngaio Marsh. if you like the old fashioned English mystery authors, this is for you, and she wrote many Inspector Allyn mysteries
I finished The Cater Street Hangman by Anne Perry. It was really good. I am going to continue reading the series. I seem to be having a bit of a hard time finding complete cozy mystery series in Epub format from the library. I download library books to my nook. So I usually read cozies every once in a while. I decided to join this group to see if I can broaden my list of cozies. I am currently reading books by the following authors: Anne Perry, Joanne Fluke, Janet Evanovich, and Carolyn Hart.
I finished Manhattans & Murder and it was good. I can't elaborate about the plot b/c that would give it away. You can't really write an in-depth review on a cozy. lol

I just finished
by Melissa Bourbon Ramirez and loved it. I'm looking forward to reading the others in this series. Very cute and with a little twist at the end.
Maria wrote: "I just finished reading Tiger's Eye by Barbara Annino."Oh yeah, Maria - what did you think? I just got this in the mail the other day and it's sitting on top of the pile...

I just finished Bewitched, Bothered, and Biscotti by Bailey Cates and I think I'm going to try her recipe for Coca-Cola cake.
The last cozy I read was Death Of An Obnoxious Tourist, which was available as a cheap Audible book with a combination Kindle edition purchase. I liked it well enough that I bought the next one in the seriesDeath of a Lovable Geek.
The Strangers on Montagu Street the last of the Karen White series. I truly enjoyed them. Waiting for the 4th in 2014.
Just finished Queens Ransom, the sixth Sophie Metropolis mystery. I've always liked this series, but this book irritated me - lots of yanking around of the reader...
❂ Jennifer wrote: "Just finished Queens Ransom, the sixth Sophie Metropolis mystery. Wanted to read the 5th, but it was hard to get for awhile and then I forgot about it. I should see what I can find now.

Me too! I listened to the first four on audiobook but book 5 didn't have an audio version so I stopped.
Heidi (up to no good) wrote: "Melodie wrote: "❂ Jennifer wrote: "Just finished Queens Ransom, the sixth Sophie Metropolis mystery. That might have something to do with the availability. The fifth one was a bit of fun and halloween-ish (vampires!) and this sixth one takes place at Christmas time and has a very fun sub-plot about a reindeer.
It was mostly the love triangle crap that irritated me.
I just finished reading Death Drops by Chrystle Fiedler. This was one of the best cozies I have read in about 1 month. It is new series debut set in an herbal health food store and cafe. So many good twists and tangles. The new one comes out end of Feb so not too long to wait. The only other cozy series I have seen in similar setting is the Susan Wittig Albert series with China Bayles. Anyone else read any cozy series in this setting? Now I am waiting for the new Gunn Zoo mystery series. Has anyone else ever come across a zoo setting for a series?
Vicky wrote: "I finished The Cater Street Hangman by Anne Perry. It was really good. I am going to continue reading the series. I find Perry can get tedious at times, but over all this series and her others, William Monk and the one about WW1, are all worthwhile reads. Her research into the lifestyle of the times is very good.
Kaye wrote: "I just finished Bewitched, Bothered, and Biscotti by Bailey Cates and I think I'm going to try her recipe for Coca-Cola cake."I'm going to have to read the book if only to find out what coca-cola cake is! I'm a huge coke fan and love cake, so this sounds like a winner! thanks for the recommendation.

The Easy Rawlins books definitely aren't cozies! Especially with a character like Mouse! However, I loved almost all of them!
