What Cozy Did You Just Finish Reading??? (Archive)
Melodie and Barb - I had the same reaction when I read that. It left me disappointed when I did quite like the book.
Glad to know it wasn't just me :) It'll be interesting to see how she deals with that in the next book.

by Joanna Campbell Slan...it's my favorite in this series - so far :)"I haven't yet read that one, but it's on my list to get to soon! Glad to hear you liked it :)
Barb wrote: "So Melodie - Did you mean [spoilers removed]?"Yep - that bugged me to no end as well and said so in my review of the book. Completely inconsistent with the rest of the story thus far. And it felt like an afterthought/add-on.
Finished Murder for Choir yesterday. This is one of those books I had no intention of reading until Melodie posted she liked it. :P So thanks Melodie, I have a new series to read. :DIn other words, a very good read and a solid first-in-series.

Always happy to add to others TBR mountains! LOL
Heather L wrote: "Finished The Love Talker by Elizabeth Peters this evening. Don't let the title deter you. This was a good stand-alone mystery, as well as a great introduction to Peters. Now, on to the "Crocodile" ..."I love Elizabeth Peters!
Just finished
Cinnamon Roll Murder by Joanne Fluke. The idea had a lot of promise, but the execution was a disappointment. My review goes into more detail. Bottom line: I'll buy a cookbook by Joanne Fluke, but not another Hannah Swenson mystery.

I like this series too. I think a new one comes out soon.

That's right, Heidi. It's called "Every Trick In The Book" and it's coming out in February.
I finished reading Darkness Exposed. I'll probably drop this series. Skimmed a lot of the story and didn't feel like I missed anything.

Yikes! Then I'd better read the first one soon so I don't start out being behind on yet *another series!
Joanne wrote: "I just finished reading

Loved that entire trilogy. Glad you enjoyed the first book!

I just finished
, the new book from Carolyn Hart. The heroine has developed the ability to understand cats (shades of Clea Simon's
Pru Marlowe mysteries) and the murder victim's cat provides her with a couple of clues. I thought it was kind of dry.

I heard there will be a fourth book, called "Dead Suite".
I just finished
, which was a light, enjoyable read. It definitely kept me entertained to the end, and I didn't really suspect who the killer was. I also just finished
, which I don't know if it qualifies as a cozy, but I really liked it, it was different, and a great story!

Yes, but it will only be available in ebook form. Which is fine if you have an ereader--which I don't. I downloaded both the Nook and Kindle aps for computer, but just can't read long works off a computer. It's too hard on the eyes, not to mention I can't get comfortable enough at my desk.

I understand. The same happens with me, that's why I've downloaded Kindle on my i-phone and it works much better that way.
Zoe wrote: "I understand. The same happens with me, that's why I've downloaded Kindle on my i-phone and it works much better that way..."I agree the iPhone/iPod is better than the desktop computer in terms of reading comfort, but I dislike the little screen. Still better than nothing I suppose.
I have the Kindle app on my Samsung phone and my ipod touch. I use them all the time because you can read in the dark with them.
Just finished
. I REALLY enjoyed it. There were a few different story lines, not just one typical murder mystery, so that was interesting, and I was definitely surprised by the ending. Plus, there was a cute little love connection throughout. :) I definitely recommend it to cozy loves! Going to read the next two books in the series soon!

Last night I finished Iced Chiffon. I loved the entire book, and the identity of the killer was a real kick! The author has a breezy, humorous style that propelled me through the book. A fun read all around.
Finished Bewitched, Bothered, and Biscotti yesterday. This is going to be a great series! I like that the paranormal element has gotten a bit more complex and look forward to the next book.
❂ Jennifer wrote: "Finished Bewitched, Bothered, and Biscotti yesterday. This is going to be a great series! I like that the paranormal element has gotten a bit more complex and look forward to the next book."I'm glad to hear you liked that one since I ordered it and will read it shortly!

Just finished the Callahan Garrity series by Kathy Hogan Trocheck. Really enjoyed them!up next, another new author - Jess Lourey, starting May Day.
I finished A Deal to Die For. This is NOT her strongest series. I had several issues with this book, but it does improve about half way through...
❂ Jennifer wrote: "I finished A Deal to Die For. This is NOT her strongest series. I had several issues with this book, but it does improve about half way through..."Doesn't sound promising. I have this one nearing the top of The Pile.
Melodie - I put most of my complaints in my review. There are things to like, but man, was I annoyed for the first half of the book. I'm going to read the next one because I know Jenn McKinley is capable of excellent work...
I finished reading Aunt Dimity's Good Deed. The story was a nice cozy mystery. Not a bang, bang, dead body mystery.
Just finished
which was okay. I'm not a big fan of stories where animals play a part, especially when it's from their point of view. Ended skipping over the cat's perspective.

That's the one. With any other writer it would have been enough to totally ruin the book, IMO. With McKinlay it took from a usual 5-star read to more like 3.5.
