message 5102: by Juliet (new)

Juliet (yiinochi) Just finished Sprinkle with Murder and I like it a lot! Looking forward to reading the remaining books in this series.

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments Just finished Red Delicious Death (Orchard Mystery, #3) by Sheila Connolly and thought it was okay.

message 5104: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished Stake & Eggs (Cackleberry Club, #4) by Laura Childs . Not nearly as good as other books in this series.

Oh, I love this series - it's one of my true favorites. But I'm not sure I'd call Cocaine Blues a favorite - it's not one of the ones I go back to for re-reading.

message 5106: by Lynx (new)

Lynx (lynxreads) I just completed Chasing the devil the second in Agatas Stanford's Dorothy Parker Mystery Series. It was enjoyable however I find JJ Murphy's Dorothy Parker series to be better written and capture the humor of the Round Table in a way that Agata tries but has difficulty keeping up throughout. Still a fun read, but anyone interested in Dorothy Parker and the Vicious Circle should definitely check out Murphy's first!! Can't wait to get his new one!

Lynx, I couldn't agree more! I haven't tried Stanford's series, but J.J. Murphy's mysteries with Dorothy Parker as the main character are exquisite!
I'm looking forward to
A Friendly Game of Murder (An Algonquin Round Table Mystery #3) by J.J. Murphy

message 5108: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hanjae) | 82 comments Finished the two latest installments of Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series over the Christmas holidays:

Naughty in Nice (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #5) by Rhys Bowen The Twelve Clues of Christmas (Her Royal Spyness Mysteries, #6) by Rhys Bowen

So good! These books just keep getting better and better. I love that there's positive character and relationship developments (I hate it when things remain stagnant) and Twelve Clues was particularly awesome with those. Besides, a classy English village mystery! So much fun to read over Christmas.

message 5109: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished 50% Off Murder by Josie Belle and I really liked it.

message 5110: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1192 comments Late last night -- early this morning? -- I finished Bedeviled Eggs and liked it a lot. Not sure what's up next, I need to check library due dates :)

message 5111: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished Hot Button. The only thing I found a little annoying was Nev's constant need to have Josie's help with his investigation.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Finished Thread on Arrival. Meh. This series just doesn't do it for me so much. I liked the second half better than the first though, so I'll probably read the next one.

Finished The Love Talker by Elizabeth Peters this evening. Don't let the title deter you. This was a good stand-alone mystery, as well as a great introduction to Peters. Now, on to the "Crocodile" book...

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Zoe wrote: "I just finished Murder Your Darlings (An Algonquin Round Table Mystery #1) by J.J. Murphy and it was amazing! It had a smart plot, interesting characters and I loved Dorothy Parker's wit! I'll start the second book in the series v..."

The second book is as good as the first. He also has a short story and book three out (book three came out last week)-- both of which I'll be reading soon too.

message 5115: by Mary (Biblophile) (new)

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments Just finished Brownies and Broomsticks (A Magical Bakery Mystery #1) by Bailey Cates . I liked it although I'm getting a little tired of the boyfriend cheated/left me as the premise for starting over. Are there no happy people out there who just want to try something different?

message 5116: by Linda (new)

Linda Just finished Cookie Dough or Die, and positively loved it! The characters were well-drawn, and the plot was carefully thought out. The cookie-cutter theme wasn't just enchanting -- it helped lead to the identity of the killer. I kept wanting to bake and eat cookies, however, something I'm trying to avoid now that the holidays are over.

I also enjoyed this one. I hope the others in the series is as good as this one.

Marja McGraw (marja1) | 994 comments I just finished Three Odd Balls by Cindy Blackburn. The story was really a lot of fun, the characters were quirky (which I love), and I can't wait to read another one by her. When I put the book down I realized it had left me smiling, which is a good thing.

I read the first one in this series a year or 2 ago and REALLY didn't like it. I like her Southern Cooking School books, tho.

The first in the series, I agree with Melodie, was not strong. At all. But the series has improved with each new book. Won't call it a favorite, but I'm still buying the new ones. :)

message 5124: by Dolly (new)

Dolly (dollymart) | 24 comments Just finished Dial Om for Murder by Diana Killian. I read the first book in the series, Corpse Pose, because it was featured here, and I finally got around to reading another book in the series. It was a good story - brain candy, but a fun, quick read.

message 5125: by Mary (Biblophile) (new)

Thank you Melodie and Jennifer! Maybe I'll just stick with the cooking school books for now :)

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Read Wall-to-Wall Dead yesterday. I really like this series but I took exception to Avery dipping into overly-nosey-gossipy-shrew in the middle-ish part of the book. Thankfully, she snapped out of it a bit. A good read overall.

message 5128: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1192 comments Just finished What the Cat Dragged In. It wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but it wasn't all the bad either. Next up: Agatha Christie's The Body in the Library.

message 5129: by Mary (Biblophile) (new)

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments Just finished Orange as Marmalade by Fran Stewart which was an okay read and To the Grave (A Genealogical Crime Mystery #2) by Steve Robinson which I really loved.

message 5130: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 45 comments Just finished Chihuahua of the Baskervilles by Esri Allbritten . It was cute and I liked the characters, but it didn't have any ghosts in it like I was expecting from the cover and the back of the book.

message 5131: by Susie (new)

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished Photo, Snap, Shot (Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-n-Craft Mystery, #3) by Joanna Campbell Slan . The main character (and her mother-in-law) are a little annoying, but the story was OK.

message 5132: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1192 comments I don't mind Kiki so much, but I'm beginning to wish her mother-in-law would show up as a victim in one of the next few books LOL

message 5133: by Nell (last edited Jan 10, 2013 04:58PM) (new)

Nell | 1223 comments Just finished Every Last Secret: A Mystery, first in a new series by Linda Rodriguez. Keeping track of some of the characters was a little confusing at times but the mystery was excellent.

Joanne | 45 comments I just finished Night of the Living Deed (Haunted Guesthouse Mystery #1) by E.J. Copperman and enjoyed it. I thought the author did a great job with the characters (I especially liked the heroine's mother) although the murderer's motives made me raise my eyebrows. Definitely reading the next one in the series!

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished Book, Line and Sinker (Library Lover's Mystery, #3) by Jenn McKinlay and really liked it except for one little detail at the end which didn't ring true for me.
