Maria The cozy I just finished reading is Wicked Autumn by G.M. Malliet. About a MI5 agent that changed jobs to become a pastor in the Anglican church. He is stationed (if that is the correct word) in a small village Neather Monkslip what a great name! One of the best new series I have read in a while!

G.M. Malliet wrote a series prior to this one. The first one, Death of a Cozy Writer, is full of wry humor, a great read for cozy mystery lovers. The ending has an Agatha Christie twist. There are three in this series. I enjoyed them all and hope she will continue both series. Death of a Cozy Writer was nominated for an Agatha award.

Death of a Cozy Writer (A St. Just Mystery #1) by G.M. Malliet

Mary (Biblophile) | 4610 comments I just finished Sweet Holidays The Third Samantha Sweet Mystery by Connie Shelton and Sweet Hearts by Connie Shelton . I really like this series. The characters are well done and there is just a touch of supernatural to spice the series up.

message 5004: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Finished The Light Keeper's Legacy by Kathleen Ernst which was okay. Far better than the first one in this series. I did find the historical story part of the book to be much more interesting than the part taking place in 1982. Also finished Notorious Nineteen (Stephanie Plum, #19) by Janet Evanovich which was typical Plum escapism!

message 5005: by Linda (new)

Linda A few days ago I finished A Spoonful of Murder by Connie Archer, and thought it was very entertaining. I love New England settings, and this debut mystery fits the bill nicely.

message 5006: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 45 comments I just finished Hearse and Buggy by Laura Bradford an Amish Mystery, and the first in a series by Laura Bradford. I really liked the character development - you felt like you were getting to know everyone and learn something about the Amish, as well! I thought it was a great first book in a series.

You might add Paige Shelton, too.

Danielle (dizzy_booknerd) | 121 comments I just finished "Chocolate Dipped Death" by Sammi Carter, which i really enjoyed. This was the 2nd book in her candy shop series and I've really liked them both, so I plan to read the rest as well! I definitely didn't see the ending coming! =p

message 5009: by Joanne (new)

Joanne | 45 comments I just finished reading Murder Past Due by Miranda James and really liked it. Just when I thought I knew who all the suspects were, someone else became a suspect as well, and the ending caught me by surprise! Plus, you have to love Diesel, the Maine Coon cat that accompanies his person everywhere!

message 5010: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (bookwormfromathens) | 712 comments I finished A Spirited Gift by Joyce Lavene but I thought it was so-so. The killer's motive didn't appear convincing and wasn't justified, in my opinion. I gave it three stars though, as I really enjoyed the ghost of the pirate following Dae around! He was a hoot!

Susie Fevella (susieinks) | 821 comments Just finished Flipped Out (A Do-It-Yourself Mystery #5) by Jennie Bentley . It was OK. I think I have a problem with Derek's relationship with his ex.

Maria (m_macaron) | 29 comments I just finished reading Falling to Pieces. I really enjoyed all the characters in the book.

message 5013: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1192 comments I just finished An Appetite for Murder (Key West Food Critic Mystery, #1) by Lucy Burdette An Appetite for Murder, the first in a new series by Lucy Burdette. The main character is a young/new food critic living on Key West. Although she's one of the stereotypical cozy characters -- moved to Key West for a guy, got dumped, now has to make her own way or move back home with Mom or Dad, and although she seems to babble incessantly about annoying details whenever she's nervous, I liked her and her friends well enough to read the next in the series.

Do read Death in Four Courses - it was much better, I thought.

Don't be worried Heidi, it was still a good book :)

Denise | 618 comments I just finished Until Our Last Embrace by the husband and wife team of Joyce and Jim Lavene. This is the 4th book in the Sheriff Sharyn Howard Mystery series. I haven't read the first three yet. This book can be read and enjoyed out of sequence but it does refer back (alot) to things that happened in the other books so I think it would be better to read the books in sequence. The first one in the series is Last Dance (I have it on order at the library).

By the way, since we are all book lovers I thought I would mention a website that my daughter brought to my attention: www.bookpeopleunite.org. The mission is to get books into the hands of underpriviliged kids. Check it out.

Joanne | 45 comments I just finished State of the Onion (A White House Chef Mystery, #1) by Julie Hyzy , the first book in the White House Chef Mysteries. I loved how the author takes you behind the scenes with the White House chefs and how they operate! Fascinating! I liked Ollie, the heroine, but I'm not so sure about the boyfriend - I'm reserving my opinion until I read the next book!

I read the first two books and was not really into that series like it seems a lot of people are so I quit.

message 5035: by Linda (new)

Linda This morning I finished reading Double-Booked for Death by Ali Brandon. I enjoyed the author's style tremendously, and did not guess the killer! In fact, I had pegged someone else altogether as the killer, and was so sure I was right. I've already added the second book in this series to my Christmas list.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Just shut Notorious Nineteen. Excellent. Is it just me or was it reminiscent of the earlier Plums?

I found it WAY better than EXPLOSIVE EIGHTEEN, but still not up to the earlier standards.

message 5045: by Fred (new)

Fred I just finished Fonduing Fathers by Julie Hyzy. The sixth book in the A White House Chef Mystery series. I would say this is the best so far.

I found the the story that took place in the past in this one quite interesting. The one that took place in "current time", not so much. I think I'll leave this series alone from now on. I read the first one a couple of years ago, and REALLY didn't like it. This one sounded interesting so I gave it a shot. Probably shouldn't have.
