I read this yesterday, the publisher has pitched it a little young for me (quizzes and other things to amuse in the back), but all in all I was pleased with it, a nice return to form.
Good things: Nice DWJ characterisation, insight, good use of greek/roman mythology in particular, amusing bitparts, I did like the Polish nanny and her smiling and nodding ways.
Less good things: It is too short! And some of the bigger parts could have been fleshed out some more, especially Joylyon (scuse spelling), he wasn't quite bad enough and nor was there anything about him to explain why so many fell for his charms. Grandma was left a bit too much of a mystery. Using mythology with 7 sisters leads to a little bit of name overkill.
Yeah, I agree that the book could have had a lot more information. You didn't get a real sense of urgency about Joylyon, he was just not good. But I really enjoyed all the descriptions of the mythosphere.
yeah. I just finished it a day or two ago so that might be part of it. I've been going through and reading alot of DWJ now that I've actually discovered her. I've almost finished all teh books in the library.

Usual things: Indifferent/absent parenting :)
