The most I feel comfortable with is two. One actual book, and one audio book to listen to while I do house work or work out. Any more than that and I get frustrated.

I have mine sorted into three shelves too. "To-Read" is books I own that need to be read. "Wishlist" is for books I definitely for sure want to get and read. And "To-Ponder" is books that look interesting and I'd like to read, but not quite so badly enough that they go on the definitely-want-this-book "Wishlist" shelf. It helps me stay organized :)
I can juggle about 4-5 comfortably. After that it starts to bog me down (thus I have 9 on my list - I need to clean it out...some of those may not get read)
1 fic, 1 non-fic is the most I can do simultaneously.
Usually though I'll just go one at a time.

I just went to Borders and bought seven books.awwwwwww yeah
-cries-
(but most of them are filling holes in series I'm reading. only one of them is the first in a new series, and that's Hounded. IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE.)
Msj, that story was crazy. I did not know that it was possible to get a masters degree in 3,5 years though.
Maggie wrote: "You needed Hounded, Valerie..."It's ok. We all have our moments.
And Hounded is a good place to fall off at...
I read the first chapter in Hounded last night, and I think I am gonna like it a LOT better than I even thought I would!

I've been following this and it looks like fun, but sorry to say ... I can't play! I don't have a TBR!
I do NOT understand how anyone can have more than a literal armload of unread books in the house for more than a week or two at the most.
An unread book comes into the house via library, Amazon, paperbackswap or other route and I think on average, I start on the book (or books) within a matter of hours if I'm not already reading something that is not a re-read.
I would actually enjoy a TBR collection ... I just don't understand how you can have an unread book in the house for any significant length of time.I also don't understand people who complain they check out books from the library and have to take them back unread. (I take some back unread, but that's because I started them and wasn't interested enough to finish ... not because I never started them.)
It's a little like chocolate ... there is rarely uneaten chocolate in my house either!
Addiction? Quite possibly. OTOH there is an open but half full bottle of wine in my refrigerator that has been there, literally, for months.

I...I'm confused...
(Also, I'm http://www.reddit.com/user/whimsicalm...)
edit: nevermind, saw the article

I used to be that way...until I started hanging out here. Fictionwise often has 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60% off coupons (at which time I splurge), then several different places are often pointing me in the direction of free books (I got SO MANY during read an ebook week), and then there was that Borders closing down the street from my office. I don't know how many books I bought from them, but at lot of them were omnibuses...
I'm doomed

I'm still confused.
Was that a 'wow' about that article? Or was it a 'wow' about my comment over there?

Wow about the article. If your whole feed is like that, Id never read it. I'm now depressed
Oh, yeah. That article was crazy.
But nah, my whole feed is just a hodgepodge of all kinds of stuff.
Cool thing about Reddit is that you can personalize it and only subscribe to the stuff you want to see.
I get the feeling you'd probably love browsing r/aww alongside Denae. :P

There is a picture of a baby chinchilla up there today. Absolutely adorable. I made unintelligible noises.
Ala wrote: "I get the feeling you'd probably love browsing r/aww alongside Denae. :P "Now THAT'S news! ;)
I have a couple different TBRs, and they are *cough* all pretty big. Wishlist: All the books I don't own or have ebooks of that I want to remember or that look interesting.
-- 607 books
TBR: All the books I PHYSICALLY own and need to read.
-- 147 Books
TBR_Nook: All the ebooks I have and need to read. (Err... kind of out of date. I am bad at updating my list when I get more... That's a long weekend project.)
-- 331 Books listed (we'll leave it at that).
TBR_Coming Up: The short-list of books I intend to read soonish (which very rarely has any actual bearing on what I read soonish). LOL
-- 5 books
Well hello there, Becky (and Becky's TBR list(s)). Looks like someone's in need of an intervention. ;-)
My holiday's been booked and I have put aside four books that I own to be packed in my suitcase. Shame the hardbacks are too heavy to pack!
MrsJoseph wrote: "Well hello there, Becky (and Becky's TBR list(s)). Looks like someone's in need of an intervention. ;-)"O_O If by "an intervention" you mean "more bookshelf room", you're absolutely right. ;)
So if everyone just makes a wish list on amazon of books you want you could all conceivably just buy each other "gifts" and still technically obey the rules of your challenge
Sabotage....
Sabotage....
Sneaky bastard...I'm basically using this to get my list of books to read for each month under control and to make sure I pay attention to things on my tbr I might have forgotten. I'm enjoying my current setup of multiple priority lists, divided by genre.

Bad?"
Oops ... I just visited Amazon today and put several more on my wish list.
I really need to do something like this on Steam. I keep saying I am not buying any more games until I get off my Nook and play some of the ones I have, but then Steam has these amazing sales and it's all over. *sigh*

Scadaddle you scamp! G'wone from round here! Messing with the nice people...
ahaha, such a devious mind he has.
But you have to admit, it is a good idea :P

I mean, really.
You'll just be buying a friend a gift. How is that a bad thing? Everyone deserves a gift once in a while.
Don't you think your friends here deserve a nice, shiny new book?
And if they think as highly of you as you do of them and they decide to send you a gift as well, who can fault them?

so, I have a bookcase that is JUST for books I have not read yet, and it was all full and overflowing and I had boxes on the floor for the overflow. So a couple months ago I was at a furniture sale and saw a nice bookcase that I figured I could use and put all the hard covers into. I rearranged everything and voila! no more books on the floor. Next problem was that now there are havent been read books mixed into the bookcases, and yet the pile of boxes in front of the tbr book case has been pulled out again, and is currently at 2 full boxes.
I can see I need to have a garage sale. lol.
Maybe we should do our willing to swap lists again?
Logging into GoodReads itself is bad for TBR piles though...perhaps if I didn't log on for a while, I wouldn't see new books to read, to add to my ever growing list!
Maggie, I have 3 bookcases, plus shelves in my bedroom (and used to have one more plus shelving in the living room until The Boy confiscated them both for his art and art accessories) and at one point I had the "Unread" bookcase(s) too... It was too daunting to look at so eventually I just rearranged them all. That's cool though. I remix my books every couple months anyway, and I like having them close to me... :)
I still have two ebooks (in progress), a couple of rereads (one in progress), and an ARC before I can get started. Two ARCs. I'll start on my birthday.
So, after some thought, I think I'm going to set my goal at "Read 5 books/Acquire 1 book".My last book purchase was A Dance with Dragons on July 14th. So, therefore, I'm counting my starting date as July 15th.
Since then I have completed 9 books.
So I have one credit, and another to come with the next book I finish. :)
*face palm* I have an ARC to read, too. Grrrr...I started it once before and it wasn't promising. This one has to count - though I can't mark it cause it hasn't been released yet. :(
