I don't recall when I read this, but it was probably mid to late 1980's. I don't know if it was a YA book or not. The main character is a girl who was never given a name, so everyone calls her Girlie. She later finds out that her father wouldn't let them name her because he thought she was not his child. He has been away somewhere, and the timing of her birth made him think that he was not the father. She found a book in the library that described overdue births, and tore out the pages to show to him. In the end I thinks she chooses her own name. One scene I recall is her becoming angry or frustrated, and wanting to throw something. A relative's dentures are in a glass, and since they were guaranteed not to break she throws them on the floor. Of course they do break. Any help is appreciated!
