This morning's music was Nevermind by Nirvana. I think they were the first grunge band to hit the mainstream. With some considerable force, I seem to remember.
I'm listening to the Be Good Tanyas this afternoon. You can't get much musically further than that from Nirvana. The album is Chinatown. An example of their music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvoVS...
Bomb The Bass "5ml Barrel" featuring a voiceover by Will Self and "Bug Powder Dust" written for Gus Van Sant's "Naked Lunch" movie about Burrough's book of the same name
Well, I've found the limits of the Samsung S5's ability to play high quality audio files.Played Yes's Relayer, the SACD remastered version as a FLAC file. It nearly choked to death on it. Hopefully the new S7 with a faster processor will overcome that.
First World problems abound.
try this one if you like Pink Floyd https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NXvW...
or Deep Purple

Thanks Jim, I'll have a look at those this evening. In the meantime I'm listening to Dark Discovery by Evergrey.
Whilst a hard rock album, this album does seem to have progressive roots as it's a concept album about alien abduction.
I have a similar "digging" playlist. mine's for digging out data an defective systems. At the moment I'm playing the soundtrack to American Beauty - sublime.
I'm listening to Culpeper's Orchard. Their eponymous album. Quite something. The opening track sounds like we are in for a country music fest - with banjo accompaniment. Then the guitar opening for the second track makes you go, oh?
After that it's great guitar work all the way, with loads of other influences. Great fun.
You can listen to the album here:

Marc wrote: "film wasn't very good though"The film wasn't very good, it was astoundingly good. Sam Mendes adaptation of Alan Ball's script was pitch perfect.
The cast: Kevin Spacey and Annette Benning on top form.
The near-perfect example of American mid-life crisis, set in a typical middle class community.
I beg to differ. It seemed an utterly vacuous film about vacuous people, despite its stellar cast. I played football with that Sam Mendes...

Listening to Born to Laugh at Tornadoes, by Was (Not Was). This album has the wonderfully named track "Woodwork creaks and out come the freaks"

nope, just don't think it was a point worth devoting 2 hours to having to sit through

.."
I'm with Marc on this one, if people are that vacuous I don't need to waste two hours confirming this? What's the film so I can avoid it :-)
American Beauty - 8.6 on IMDB Won 2 oscars for best film and best screenplay."Flawlessly cast and brimming with dark, acid wit, American Beauty is a smart, provocative high point of late '90s mainstream Hollywood film." - Rotten Tomatoes" - 88%
I'm not arguing its success, just it wasn't a film I favoured. The wit I didn't see I'm afraid, Spacey's character was just too unsympathetic for words (and not just from his performance making him an unappealing character)
My memory of it is that it was really rather boring. Beautifully photographed, lbeautiful music - and apart from the odd witty interlude, sadly rather dull. I have never felt inclined to re-watch it, which to me is the mark of a good film.
Listening to Jade Warrior - The Island Anthology. This is a four volume set, so this will probably all I listen to all day. Note, Jon Field was the only musician used by Mike Oldfield on Tubular Bells. He played the flute.

Still the best version IMO.

Origin of the song.
I seem to be suffering withdrawal symptoms. I'm awaiting the delivery of a computer system that needs to be built for a customer. As a result I cannot listen to any music as I won't be able to hear the doorbell.Stupid doorbell.
I've had a bit of a Zevon-fest here over the weekend. Over the years I have come to appreciate his music more and more, although he was somewhat macabre.I first listened to Excitable Boy, which carries the famous song, Werewolves of London, amongst many other excellent songs. I then followed that with his live album, Learning to Flinch, which has some lovely acoustic guitar work as well as his well known piano.

I like Dory Previn, but then you were expecting that.
I'm listening to the soundtrack of Pleasantville, the main theme is composed by Randy Newman. Excellent.
Oh, no, now I'm listening to Kawana by Zao. Quite interesting, formed from two members of Magma.
I don't dislike Dory Previn. In small doses.I read that as 'formed by two members of Vagina'
No, I'm not drinking.
