One evening in October
When I was about one-third sober
And was taking home a load with manly pride
My poor feet began to stutter
So I lay down in the gutter
And a pig came up and lay down by my side
Then we sang "It's All Fair Weather"
And "Good Fellows Get Together"
Till a lady passing by was heard to say
She says, "You can tell a man who boozes
By the company he chooses"
And the pig got up and slowly walked away
Yes, the pig got up and slowly walked away
Slowly walked away, slowly walked away
Yes, the pig got up and he turned and winked at me
As he slowly walked away
I also well remember
One evening in November
When I was creeping home at break of day
For in my exhilaration
I engaged in conversation
With a cab-horse, right on the corner of Broadway
I was filled up to the eyeballs
With a flock of gin and highballs
So I whispered to the cab-horse old and grey
I says, "It's these all-night homeward marches
That gave us both our fallen arches."
And the old horse laughed and slowly walked away
Yes, the old horse laughed and slowly walked away
Slowly walked away, he slowly walked away
And the old horse laughed and he turned and winked at me
As he slowly walked away
As he slowly walked away
its only 2:30 in the afternoon - how are you already drunk? and have you un-sticked yourself from the bed yet?

It was probably trying to come through the wall to meet up with GL's washing machine.Dave has Edgar Broughton Band playing. Meh.
I'm listening to an album by a guy called Stephen Ridley. The album is called Butterfly in a Hurricane. I saw him down in Camden Town today, playing on a piano on the street outside one of the markets. Being today, in London, it was about -4, and he had to play in gloves, but he still sat there pounding away with a surprising dexterity for a guy whose fingers must have been numb, even with the wool gloves. I had to buy the album. Really passionate, energetic singer-songwriter, the album is just his voice and the piano, a mix of jazz, blues and ballads. Any fan of piano-centered music should buy this album.
Simon (Highwayman) wrote: "Just heard Whitney Houston is dead......."Sad news. She was only 48 apparently.
She went off the rails due to drugs and alcohol several years ago and I don't think she ever recovered.
I just played all her Napster tracks. She had a good voice and other nice features....Money really doesn't always buy happiness.
Dave's just made a move toward the sound system! On no! I was having such a lovely, chilled afternoon, too. :(
Oh Lordy. He's playing The Monkees. Shoot me. Shoot me now.

The original plastic band. Mind you, some great writers worked for them, not least Neil Diamond.
Dave needs a holiday. I've seen it before, when they start playing the monkeys it is time to evac them.
