I'm still on lighthearted, fairly short books at the mo, until I can concentrate on heavier books again. Read my first Sophie Kinsella book - it was a short story, and I thought it was very good, a twist on Dicken's Christmas Carol - Six Geesea-Laying. Then I read Molly's Millions by Victoria Connelly - I can recommend that to people who were looking for fluffy reads - it fits that bill; it's funny and not a romance novel (although there is a little romance in it) so I think that those who are looking for a lighter read but aren't romance fans, would enjoy this. Then I read a sweet romance which was ok - I find it hard to indentify with super rich heroines though - Special Delivery. Now I'm reading Fresh Powder by Suzanne O'Leary - it's the first book that I've read by her and I'm impressed. I was expecting light romantic chick lit but there's much more depth to it than that - really interesting characters that make me want to know their story.

This is a book that my husband has just finished! He read it in one sitting (it isn't a long book!) and thought it was brilliant, especially the way it builds up towards the end:

The book, On the Way to Siberia, is the story of a young German boy (Hermann Frech)who was conscripted into the army as a "Flak Helper" -- if you saw the documentary "Bomber Boys" you would have seen the anti-aircraft gunners shooting at our planes -- and later taken prisoner by the Soviet Red Army in Berlin, May 1945.
Thank you for that Shelagh! Looks like something Dave would really enjoy, that. I'll get him the sample to start with.

I'm about to start our new lad Jim Chaseley's first book. No warning him how horrid I am - let him find out for himself like everyone else did!

I'm now trying to decide on a novel to start next.
Thanks Ignite. I wonder why the link wouldn't work for me I put in the title and author? This has happened a few times recently.

One to read many times, perhaps. It would be good to have a non-fiction thread in the group (if there isn't one already).
Just Finished: The Good Man Jesus & The Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pullman. Hmm really haven't formed a proper opinion yet. Pullman's style seem a bit over simplified & the Afterword just struck me as smug! But I'm glad I read it.

Friend thought I might like so i'm giving it a shot. Only on about 3rd chapter so not much to say at this stage apart from ok so far!
I've read that Elaine. I thought the idea was intriguing but I was shocked (I live in Yorkshire!) at how short it was for the money! I think it was an idea that wasn't properly explored.

I've just finished Agatha Raisin and the Walkers of Dembley which I enjoyed. Then I read a short story by Katie Fforde The Undercover Cook and now I'm reading The Merry-Go-Round by Donna Fasano. I also read a bit more of Tollesbury Time Forever but it's a painful subject for me - I will persevere though.
I got lots of reading done yesterday because I had a hospital appointment about my cpap machine - I arrived half an hour early but they were running late - good job I did have my kindle with me, I was there for an hour and a half!!

Just finished Z14 by Jim Chaseley. It's just my cup of tea and I enjoyed it immensely. Very 'silly fantasy sci-fi' so if that floats your boat you'll love it!

Very 'silly fantasy sci-fi' so if that floats your boat you'll love it!I daren't try anything else till I've had at least another go at the blimmin' Warden by Trollope. I wish I didn't take the village book group so seriously!
I've just finished Karen Slaughter's "unremarkable Heart" - a short story. It's left me a little stunned, so I'm off for a cuppa and a chance to think about the story before I pick up anything else!
