I never knew that, I really enjoyed that book. Haven't read Sycamore Row though, maybe I should wander to the charity shop tomorrow

The download to Whispersynk is really bad. I have removed it from my laptop and downloaded it again. It is still the same. Don't know if this helps you at all?
Yes, I removed and re-downloaded it but it was the same. I'm going to phone Amazon tomorrow as they don't seem to be happy with my email description. On a happier note I've just finished Jim Webster's A Much Arranged Marriage which I very much enjoyed - great style, very dry.
Glad you liked it LexieNow you realise why I asked Tallis to help with the publicity rather than Benor?
This is a respectable, highly cultured Goodreads group

Just finished Moral Tribes: Emotion, Reason, and the Gap Between Us and Them
, which had some interesting stuff in it, especially about our inherent tribalism, but its solution remained unconvincing.Just started
Trigger Warning: Is the Fear of Being Offensive Killing Free Speech?.

Is this the Fire the gas man took away to fix?
Gingerlily - Mistress Lantern wrote: "Kath wrote: "Oh, I do adore Mutt - the scruffy little brat!"Would you want him living with you though?"
Maybe not, but I wouldn't mind him working for me - and he'd certainly be able to fix fires, Kindles or handy blackmarket supplies of ... whatever.

or flicking through your kindle?
I've just finished Kiss Me First (very interesting concept of being paid to take over the running of somebody's online profiles so that their friends/family don't know that they've actually committed suicide in the real world) and am now reading Under Different Stars for something a bit different and fun :)
Lexie wrote: "Less concealment, but better reach!"Actually working out relative timing, (because the Port Naain stories are set when Benor was twenty-something but in the books he's fifty something) Mutt is actually forty-something now.
Given his worldly wise outlook then, lord help us now :-)

Yes it is. Said he couldn't find anything wrong. We thought dry joint or cracked print, will see how it goes.

A black hole of cynicism, I should think.

imagine a ant-Adrian Mole, started off cynical and ends up as doting Dad with daughters running his life for him :-)

Ooh, I like it! Write it soon!
As some point I've got a long Benor story that has to be written, what he's doing now. Well for me it's long, could be 100,000 words. Then at some point Tallis has to shut up. The problem with Tallis is his style is so seductive. You end up channelling him rather than writing him
I saw two of my bookish friends when we were outside seeing Santa and my friends son bought me and his Mum Eve: A Christmas Ghost Story he thought it was about time we read a Christmas ghost story at the same time so all three of us can talk about it later. Enjoying it so far.
I finished Cruel Justice
just before Christmas - it was excellent. Definitely reading more of these.Just started, well about a fifth of the way through,
The Wise Man's Fear, which is also excellent.
David wrote: "Agree, The Wise Man's Fear is excellent."Yes, I really liked the Name of the Wind, and this one seems just as good.
Just finished Ladybird's How it Works: The Wife, which was good. However I could definitely write a better version of 'the Husband', after 40 something years of experience... Have also read (just a few times...) The Gruffalo. And it was good.
Love the gruffalo. But I think my favourite is We're Going on a Lion Hunt. It's the African version of We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

Amazon gave me my money back and said they'd take a long look at it. I hope I can get it back soon - in fact, I'll go and try now.
I forgot to add the book I read and enjoyed over Christmas. The Thoughts and Happenings of Wilfred Price, Purveyor of Superior Funerals
I loved it. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I think I'm gonna have to get a copy of that, Kath.Who was it talked about the Rivers of London series? Was several months back, I think.
Dave just finished the first one and quite enjoyed it.
I can't believe he's getting through more books than I am this holiday!
Rivers of London is a good series. Lost its way a bit around book 4 but back on track now I think. Wouldn't read them one after another as they are a teensy bit samey.

Someone recommended them to me, I've read the first two then left the series to go back to later.
It could have been one of the Davids that recommended the series.
Who are they by again? I remember picking one up in a bookshop a few years ago and liking the look of it, but I didn't get it at the time.
Has anyone else been watching Dickensia on BBC1? I've only seen the first two episodes so far and want to catch up - thought it worked quite well.
Lexie wrote: "Who are they by again? I remember picking one up in a bookshop a few years ago and liking the look of it, but I didn't get it at the time."Ben Aaronovich, so Dave sez.
Rivers of London: Body Work
Lexie wrote: "Has anyone else been watching Dickensia on BBC1? I've only seen the first two episodes so far and want to catch up - thought it worked quite well."Nope, sorry. I know nothing about it.

It could have been me. I remember recommending it, but not who to.
And here's one of my other reads over Christmas and if you've been following the Flick Carter series you'll know why I enjoyed it so much!http://ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk/201...
Rosemary (aiming to misbehave) wrote: "Rivers of London is a good series. Lost its way a bit around book 4 but back on track now I think. Wouldn't read them one after another as they are a teensy bit samey."I love the audiobook versions of this series. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is an awesome narrator.
Trivia: Ben Aaronovitch, the author of this series is also the Dr Who writer who first made daleks that could go up stairs... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_cJ9...
Patti (baconater) wrote: "I think it was you, David. Was ages ago."Indeed. I think I'd only read a couple of them at the time.
On recommendations, I don't know if you've read this one - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... but I thought it was the most interesting thing I read last year.
