I never knew that, I really enjoyed that book. Haven't read Sycamore Row though, maybe I should wander to the charity shop tomorrow

I really enjoy Mels Justice Series, think I'm a couple behind now, will put one of hers on my list for next year

I have just checked with my fire and it has downloaded just fine there. The download to Whispersynk is really bad. I have removed it from my laptop and downloaded it again. It is still the same. Don't know if this helps you at all?

message 9407: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Yes, I removed and re-downloaded it but it was the same. I'm going to phone Amazon tomorrow as they don't seem to be happy with my email description.

On a happier note I've just finished Jim Webster's A Much Arranged Marriage which I very much enjoyed - great style, very dry.

Jim | 21810 comments Glad you liked it Lexie

Now you realise why I asked Tallis to help with the publicity rather than Benor?
This is a respectable, highly cultured Goodreads group

Yes. It's a very good book. It looks like I have a lot of catching up to do with the series.

David Hadley Just finished Moral Tribes: Emotion, Reason, and the Gap Between Us and Them Moral Tribes Emotion, Reason, and the Gap Between Us and Them by Joshua Greene , which had some interesting stuff in it, especially about our inherent tribalism, but its solution remained unconvincing.

Just started Trigger Warning Is the Fear of Being Offensive Killing Free Speech? by Mick Hume Trigger Warning: Is the Fear of Being Offensive Killing Free Speech?.

Maybe not, but I wouldn't mind him working for me - and he'd certainly be able to fix fires, Kindles or handy blackmarket supplies of ... whatever.

Jim | 21810 comments And I've had to face the problem that Mutt might live long enough to grow up, or at least taller

message 9420: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 373 comments I've just finished Kiss Me First (very interesting concept of being paid to take over the running of somebody's online profiles so that their friends/family don't know that they've actually committed suicide in the real world) and am now reading Under Different Stars for something a bit different and fun :)

Kiss Me First by Lottie Moggach Under Different Stars (Kricket, #1) by Amy A. Bartol

Actually working out relative timing, (because the Port Naain stories are set when Benor was twenty-something but in the books he's fifty something) Mutt is actually forty-something now.
Given his worldly wise outlook then, lord help us now :-)

Ooh, I like it! Write it soon!

message 9426: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21810 comments As some point I've got a long Benor story that has to be written, what he's doing now. Well for me it's long, could be 100,000 words. Then at some point Tallis has to shut up. The problem with Tallis is his style is so seductive.
You end up channelling him rather than writing him

Anita | 3313 comments I saw two of my bookish friends when we were outside seeing Santa and my friends son bought me and his Mum Eve: A Christmas Ghost Story he thought it was about time we read a Christmas ghost story at the same time so all three of us can talk about it later. Enjoying it so far.

message 9429: by David (new)

David Hadley I finished Cruel Justice Cruel Justice (Lorne Simpkins, #1) by M.A. Comley just before Christmas - it was excellent. Definitely reading more of these.

Just started, well about a fifth of the way through, The Wise Man's Fear (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #2) by Patrick Rothfuss The Wise Man's Fear, which is also excellent.

Yes, I really liked the Name of the Wind, and this one seems just as good.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Just finished Ladybird's How it Works: The Wife, which was good. However I could definitely write a better version of 'the Husband', after 40 something years of experience...
Have also read (just a few times...) The Gruffalo. And it was good.

message 9433: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Love the gruffalo.

But I think my favourite is We're Going on a Lion Hunt. It's the African version of We're Going on a Bear Hunt.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I think I'm gonna have to get a copy of that, Kath.

Who was it talked about the Rivers of London series? Was several months back, I think.

Dave just finished the first one and quite enjoyed it.

I can't believe he's getting through more books than I am this holiday!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Rivers of London is a good series. Lost its way a bit around book 4 but back on track now I think. Wouldn't read them one after another as they are a teensy bit samey.

Someone recommended them to me, I've read the first two then left the series to go back to later.
It could have been one of the Davids that recommended the series.

I love the audiobook versions of this series. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is an awesome narrator.

Trivia: Ben Aaronovitch, the author of this series is also the Dr Who writer who first made daleks that could go up stairs... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_cJ9...

Indeed. I think I'd only read a couple of them at the time.

On recommendations, I don't know if you've read this one - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... but I thought it was the most interesting thing I read last year.
