Just finished - just started
I've just finished reading Christopher Galts sci-fi thriller 'Biblical: A Novel' (now called 'The Third Testament') and it's a cracking read:

You might want to start from the beginning - and award yourself Smoke and Mirrors for New Year!"Yes Zig Zag girl is the first, good idea I will start Smoke and Mirrors for the new year although if I find it really really good I won't wait for new year.
Just finished My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell. Superbly written, but a bit of a slog.Just started And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. 42% through. Excellent story.

Being made into a TV programme to be shown over Christmas, BTW. Boxing Day, I think.
I've just finished reading Robert Reed's Marrow and it has some nice ideas. but fails to follow through with them:

Doing one of my multiread sessions just now to clear a backlog: The Third Rule by Andrew Barrett; A Personal Devil (just finished the first one in the series and it was good enough); The Nicholas Feast; The Four Seasons Quest (again, quite enjoyed the first one and love her Pitkirtly series); Inquisitor; Cold Witness; The Fabric of Murder (just again finished the first in the series and found it heavy going but fair); The Butchered Man; A Much Arranged Marriage and The Ghost Fields.
Just finished Beneath the Boards by David Haynes - review here. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-r... Just started Myrddin's War by BJ Burton...
Stuart wrote: "Just finished Beneath the Boards by David Haynes - review here. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-r... Just started ..."Beneath the Boards is an excellent read.
Michael wrote: "Stuart wrote: "Just finished Beneath the Boards by David Haynes - review here. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-r......"absolutely! I love David's victorian horror too. He is a versatile chap and a thoroughly decent one too!
Hey thanks, Stu! Thats a fantastic review. Cheers! Michael, I've said it before but you're a good man. And I'm looking forward to the next meet up. A cracking day was had!
Hi Isobel - I only recently read To Kill A Mockingbird and i'm not sure I want to spoil that by reading Watchman.I agree about Beneath the Boards and I loved BJ Burton's book too.
Just finished
A God in Ruins, which after a slow start tuned into something rather good. Although, I think I still prefer its 'companion' Life After Life.Just started Annihilation
.
Just finished The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. I loved it utterly! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Just finished And Then There Were None. Very clever and entertaining.
Just started A Time to Kill by John Grisham.

That's high on my TBR list Kath, I didn't get on with Fingersmith very well but thought I would give her another try.
Three words: .... Socko's ... First... Case!Just started: everything else I've wanted to read since midway through the year ... Reviews forthcoming.
Will wrote: "Just finished Needful Things enthralling (except for the final climax). Loved the epilogue too."You mean you'd not read it before? Wow.
Been so long since I've read it, I could probably get away with a re-read.
Just finished Few Are ChosenSo not my usual choice, but great fun.
Just started - to think about which book on my Kinde I'll read next.

didn't recognise the name, so clicked and realised it was Stephen King
I remember Needful Things from yonks back. As I recall, it's the usual Stephen King recipe of a fantastic premise and a stonking beginning which then wanders into a slightly lost middle and an unsatisfactory ending. It's a bit like a tart on the Great British Bake Off. No, not that kind of tart. The kind with a fancy topping but a soggy bottom. You enjoy Stephen King's beginnings so much that by the time you get to the soggy bits you are prepared to cut him quite a lot of slack.

He does great characters, sets the mood up nicely, draws you in and then fails come the end. I still love reading his work though.

It's a three parter being shown on BBC One, so you'll be able to watch it for 30 days on I Player
Just finished New Year, New Hero by Susan Alison. Susan wrote one of the first books that I bought for my kindle White Lies and Custard Creams: A Romantic Comedy and so I knew that I would enjoy this latest book, her sense of humour must match my own as I still find myself chuckling over a scene in that book where the heroine tries to bath her dog.
I finished The Crying Tree earlier. Not a bad book of its type. Then I read a short story Darren sent me. I do enjoy his short stories. He needs to get another collection published.
Then I looked at a few other books and couldn't settle on anything so I'm gonna re-read Paradise: A Chronicle Of A Distant World. If it's too familiar, I'll look for something else.

A time to Kill was Grisham's first book and a real corker. The problem was, because of the subject, no one would publish it. It took The Firm, his second book, to establish him, then he was asked "you got any other stuff, John?"
Yes, it should be on catch-up.
Just finished Annihilation
which I liked a lot. More towards the J.G. Ballard/Christopher Priest(ish) end of the SF axis, which I've always preferred to the Star Wars/Star Trek(ish) end. So I'll be looking out for the rest of the series sometime.
Just started
Cruel Justice prompted by Katy's reviews of the series & I'm really liking it. So, another one where I'll be looking out for the rest of the series.

Thirded. I stood outside in the cold and read this, while getting my car's brakes fixed (not out of any sense of trying to be immersive, but cos the garage's waiting room was closed for refurb! Nonetheless, it had the desired effect...) Very much reminded me of those pulp "Creepy Tales" stories I used to read as a kid. :)
Just finished The Name of the WindLoved it, once I got past the first 100 pages.

I downloaded this a week or so ago but there's something wrong with the file - odd letters scattered round the place. Has anyone else had this problem and should I tell Amazon or hit my laptop?
