Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 328 comments Just finished Meditations of Marcus Aurelius and Epictetus' Enchiridion which was pretty good, some interesting maxims. I just started Locke and Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft which seems good so far, and I'm loving the panel-view feature on Kindle Fire.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Dartmoor...The Saving. Excellent story and some lovely characters. The little people are alive and well....
Review at http://www.ignitebooks.blogspot.co.uk...

Just started some short stories by Nigel Bird. I've enjoyed a lot of his work before. With Love and Squalor

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12623 comments Finished Forever Odd last night, really don't remember it, which is odd as I can remember books I read as a kid. Now starting Brother Odd, fairly sure I've not read it before.

message 5154: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments I've now finished Hyde - Lauren Stewart. Now I am going to read Cruel Justice - M.A. Comley.

message 5155: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished Roma: The Novel of Ancient Rome which was pretty good but it was like a brief history of the creation of Rome starting from before Romulus and Remus just touching on the major events. I'm going to finish The Mammoth Book of Jack the Ripper

message 5156: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Just read Scruffy Trainers - three short stories. I liked the first one best.

message 5157: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Just finished book three of the Game of Thrones series.

Starting book four now!

message 5158: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments You enjoying them Michael?

message 5159: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments I just finished Asunder and A Measured Risk. Currently reading Poisons And Poisoners: An Encyclopedia Of Homicidal Poisonings but I am not sure what to read next. I am waiting for my copy of The Virgin in the Ice to arrive as my old copy helpfully disappeared.

message 5160: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I certainly am, Jud!

I thought the second half of book 2 was rather subdued though. I see you're on book 4 already - some people have told me it starts to go downhill from here...

message 5161: by Robert (new)

Robert Spake (ManofYesterday) | 328 comments Just finished Great Expectations and Locke and Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft. Both were really good. Great Expectations lost me for a bit around the beginning of the last third of the book, but I loved the ending. Locke & Key is an interesting graphic novel. Good artwork and an intriguing story, started off slow but it was an exciting read by the end.

Just started Locke and Key, Vol. 2: Head Games and I'm going to start Of Human Bondage later on today, which I'm really looking forward to.

message 5163: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments The most recent book was a bit hard going (he introduces a load of new characters and I struggled to keep track!) but I enjoyed all the rest.

message 5164: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Just finished Nigel Bird's With Love and Squalor - another books which I was enjoying till I found that from 61% onwards it was 'sample' stories from other collections, some of which I'd read before. Spoils it for me, does that.

message 5165: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) David's book had a couple of short stories at the end which I ignored. When I'm done with a book I want to go onto something different :-) However it was only a short section at the end, so it wasn't a significant chunk.

message 5166: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I don't mind short stories at the end of a book. Actually I quite like them.

What ticks me off royally are samples.

message 5167: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments They were sample stories from other collections. And a first chapter of a novel.

message 5168: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments I read a book a while back which looked like a novel it turned out to be about 30 pages and the rest were adverts for the author's other books. I wouldn't have minded if the book had been long and the samples were short but there were more samples than novel. Fortunately in that case I got the book for free.

message 5169: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Sinclair | 939 comments I've just started In Defence of Dogs. The wife bought it because we're getting a pointer puppy on the 15th June. So far the first forty pages or so are all about the history of dogs, lots of wolf related talk and much speculation about when they were first domesticated. To be honest it's not that thrilling yet but hopefully will pick up when we get to the current stuff about training, caring for etc.

Obviously not very interesting if you're not a dog person.

message 5170: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I've started The Light In The Cabin, I'm liking it so far, a shocking horror.

message 5171: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That sounds interesting. I like a little horror (just like your imp!)

message 5172: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) That's good thinking, maybe I should add an Imp approved award :-)

message 5173: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments There you are! You don't come from Lincoln do you? That would just be too much serendipity!

message 5174: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I don't - I'm based in sunny Cambridge :-)

message 5175: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Just finished: Black by Rose - astonishingly good!

About to start: Seance of the Souls

message 5176: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Also jolly good - but very different!

message 5177: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Seance of the Souls is a fantastic read.

I'm considering kidnapping David and having him write stories just for me.

message 5178: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Sorry, I meant the Imp is considering it. I'd never do such a thing :-)

message 5179: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Of course not. Take him out of your lughole this instant!

message 5180: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments If Dave goes missing now, we know who is prime suspect! ;)

message 5181: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) The poor little mite is peckish.

message 5182: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Well as long as it leaves his writing arm and the part of the brain needed to write. You don't need anything else, do you, Dave? ;)

message 5183: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Having just caught up with the Imp and his latest little adventures, I'm scared, very scared!

I must admit, I'm also worried about Jonathan reading my little story after giving such an amazing review of Andy's Black by Rose

Well done, Andy!

message 5184: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barrett | 1537 comments Hey, I'm reading yours right now, David. Finished Mask, and Bones, and am now on Souls. You've nothing to worry about!

message 5185: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Don't worry, Dave. I'm having a short breather and then I will be judging (ooh, that word'll give you the shivers!) yours as a separate entity! It sounds completely different though so no comparisons will be involved! Besides, I enjoyed Mask and Bones so I'm sure I'll get on with Seance.

message 5186: by Mark (new)

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments Just finished The Daylight War. Not as good as the first two in the series but left me still wanting to read the rest. Just started For Whom the Bell Tolls

message 5187: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm not finding The Mammoth Book of Jack the Ripper very interesting. I've read all the facts at the beginning of the book and now it's just essays of people's opinion on who Jack the Ripper was. Think I might give up as I like to think it was the guy Bury who was arrested in Dundee for killing his wife much in the same way as the Ripper killed - I've seen his cervical vertebrae! For some reason they are held at the anatomy museum in Dundee uni :o) *Claim to fame*

Started Murder in Mesopotamia

message 5188: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I really enjoyed the Jack the Ripper book. I haven't finished it yet but I've only a short bit of it to go!

message 5189: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I read Coraline tonight. I gave it four stars. Very quick read and very enjoyable!

message 5190: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) | 942 comments Last night I finished listening to Twilight - Stephenie Meyer. Next Sunday I am gonna listen to New Moon - Stephenie Meyer. Now I am going back to Death Bringer - Derek Landy.

Youngest daughter bought me it as part of a collection of short stories. I enjoyed them very much. Even did a review no less which shows how good it was :-)

message 5192: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I've just finished The Light In The Cabin which is a decent and bloody horror:

http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...

I'm now onto Maureen goes to Venice, which is off to a great start.

message 5193: by Elle (last edited Jun 03, 2013 01:34AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments It was a lovely read Jim!

Edit: RE: Coraline - I got to the bit with the marbles and realised I must of read it before because I could recall how she got some of them. Oops.

I finished Thorn in My Side also. It's only 33 pages...

My Aunt has a lot of Slaughter books on my Kindle so I wanted to read this one to see if I liked her writing style. I wasn't particularly fussed though.

message 5194: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Just finished Talk Language (How to use conversation for profit and pleasure) by Allan Pease and Alan Garner. (Review)

Also just finished The Third Rule - Part One: Atrocities by Andrew Barrett. (Review)

Just started my second Agatha Christie (the second in the Hercule Poirot series) Murder on the Links.

message 5195: by Nigel (new)

Nigel Bird (nigelbird) | 167 comments I've just finished A Drop Of The Hard Stuff by Lawrence Block. It's a great book, so good that I shan't pick up another for a day or 2 so that I can savour the flavours.

message 5196: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I've just finished Maureen goes to Venice, which is a funny book. I love Maureen :-)

I'm now onto Asylum, I'm expecting good things from this :-)

Mago (Mark) | 1709 comments Started Wild Thing gave up after 3 long-winded, self-indulgent chapters.
Back on the Odd Thomas roll with Odd Hours (Odd Thomas, #4) by Dean Koontz for some light relief.

I'm afraid I have a prior claim, Michael.
