Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments In The Blood

Post here to tell everyone you have started our Group book. Keep us posted as you go along.

No Spoilers here please

(A spoiler is something about the plot that might spoil the story for someone who hasn't got quite as far as you)

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments OK, well I have just one clicked it. It has been a long evening. I am being tortured by SAP consultants tomorrow so you will not hear much from me (except a bit of snoring).

message 3: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (carolinecaroline) | 69 comments One-clicked! I don't usually read crime so this will be a new experience. The beginning looks promising, but I'm only going to start in earnest once I've finished Digital Wolf.

message 4: by wordsandmusic (new)

wordsandmusic | 4 comments Just as I had promised myself not to buy any more books this summer! I am looking forward to starting this in a day or two (when the dust of a busy week begins to settle), and seeing the discussion, too. Joining a reading group like this is a first for me.

message 5: by Bailey (new)

Bailey Oh excellent, I do love a good murder. One clicked and as soon as I've finished The Hangmans Daughter, will start reading.

message 6: by Freddiesmum (new)

Freddiesmum | 137 comments one clicked...will start it once I have finished The Three Sisters book one, which will be soon.
First time in a reading group for me as well, looking forward to it.
Not a crime reader as a rule, so its nice to be pushed into trying something new!

message 7: by Roberta (new)

Roberta (BobbyJC) | 11 comments One Clicked it yesterday, before I knew we were having it as the book of the month, will start it as soon as I have finished current book.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I also one clicked yesterday before knowing that this would be chosen as our monthly read. I really like the sound of this so I am looking forward to getting started when I've finished my other reads. I have already read a little of the sample and look forward to getting immersed in the story. I like the premise that the main character is a genealogist and that some of it is set in Cornwall! :0)

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Looking forward to it, pleased we got a week or two to read it though as i promised myself i would read Words to the Wise book 2 next when i have finished the digital wolf.

message 10: by Angela (new)

Angela (bubblyfish) | 53 comments Sounds like a good read, I'm looking forward to starting it. One clicked and will start after I finished When You Went Away.

message 11: by Kerstie (new)

Kerstie | 42 comments ive one clicked and will start tonight as i have finished the true blood omnibus i was reading.

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 75 comments One clicked last night. I like the story. Unfortunately I am one of those sad souls who can only read one book at a time so may not be able to get involved in this one as only just started The Rogue by Trudi Canavan.
Do we have any timeline on the book of the month. Is this July's with a new one for August. Not sure how it will work.
Happy reading to everyone.

message 13: by Kerstie (new)

Kerstie | 42 comments lisa just checked amazon post about this group its says end august for this book. i have got that right havent i simon.

message 14: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I have just one clicked it and will probably save it till I go away in a couple of weeks

message 15: by Steve (last edited Jul 20, 2011 02:51AM) (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a few of my research photos with the discussion group so have added a few. There are many more, which you'll be able to view on my website, hopefully by the weekend or soon after. The address is http://www.steve-robinson.me. It's just a simple, single page site at the moment, but do check back for more info and imagery.

All the best,
Steve.

Lisa | 75 comments Kerstie wrote: "lisa just checked amazon post about this group its says end august for this book. i have got that right havent i simon."

Thanks Kerstie yes when I went to look at the book on this site again it does say end of August. I hadn't looked at that part of the forum. Really pleased as I don't think I would have had time. Thank you I am looking forward to reading a book so many others are doing. Happy reading.

message 17: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments gah! One click is just too easy I keep eating away at my voucher I was saving to buy myself a pretty dress for holidays!! *sigh* well cant blame it all on one click part of the blame lies with the summer sale...

Ah well I have the book now I shall enjoy reading it and having other people to chat to about it :-) Nearly finished the book i'm reading just now so its good timing!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Sorry all, had to go and talk geek. Yes, I have this set for end of August. I was a bit worried it was too long for some of the 5 a day readers but as it is our first one it would be nice to give everyone a chance. We can tweak things as we go along. I thought there was going to be 20 or so members .........

message 19: by Susan - Sukey (new)

Susan - Sukey (susan-sue) | 10 comments I am another who had one-clicked yesterday before we knew it would be book of the month. I am pleased we have a while to read it as I am partway through Witness which is proving quite absorbing but I am not a speed reader I'm afraid.

Philip Whiteland | 3400 comments Simon aka Highwayman wrote: "OK, well I have just one clicked it. It has been a long evening. I am being tortured by SAP consultants tomorrow so you will not hear much from me (except a bit of snoring)."

May the Lord spare us from SAP consultants ;-)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Just clicked and ready to download. I'm very happy to go with the club choices.

message 22: by Jax (new)

Jax | 15 comments Another one who has one clicked :) Really looking forward to reading this!

message 23: by Chookgate (new)

Chookgate | 74 comments Got it, but like many others I'm in the middle of another book, so it'll have to wait a while. I tend to "lose the plot" if I read more than one book at a time! I just wish I wasn't so busy at the moment, I'm only getting about an hour a day to read.

message 24: by Gary (new)

Gary Dowden (garydow) | 15 comments One-clicked but then I voted for crime so I'm looking forward to giving this a go once I've finished the hardback (sorry!) that I'm reading.

message 25: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I'm having a beer. The suspense is killing me!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Steve wrote: "I'm having a beer. The suspense is killing me!"

We don't really do book reading Steve. This is a particularly cruel sort of author torture we have developed.

Mind you a beer sounds like a good idea :)

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Here we all are happily telling Steve we've all got his book but not reading it yet, what a way to start a book club. We also do waterboarding.

message 28: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I started the book this evening :o) since I don't want to give anything away all I'll say is nice short chapters, I like that, makes me feel like I'm reading faster and keeps the story moving! First impressions are good Steve!!!

I think Lol is massively overused but you definitely made me lol, poor Steve. I'll be heading off to one-click shortly and try and fit it in my TBR list very soon.

message 31: by Janis (new)

Janis Moore | 22 comments One clicked last night and will start after I finish These Things Hidden. Break up today so lots of time for reading..... so hopefully will breeze through some of my TRL - note to self stop one -clicking.

Not very if i'm honest! But i will remedy that come tea break

(Sorry that i posted that last message twice I was using my blackberry and it has a mind of its own. It still says it hasn't posted it yet)

message 34: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well, I finished it last night and it's the first time I've goggled at the percentage button so often. I kept thinking we'd solved the mysetery(ies) and wondered how Steve could keep the story going - but we hadn't. No spoilers but he can't half keep you guessing! Excellent read. (I read it twice but that's another tale!)

message 35: by Gary (new)

Gary Dowden (garydow) | 15 comments Started it at work today (quiet last hour!) and 11% in. Again, wont give anything away but so far so good.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I keep slapping my hand away from clicking on the new review post!

Okay, I give up! Am setting the book I'm currently reading aside and starting In the Blood

message 37: by Jane (new)

Jane (beetlejane) | 82 comments I have just 1 clicked :-)

message 38: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've been in the office on my own today so I haven't been able to go for tea break yet and read it! But no doubt i'll get fired for being on the site all day and then i'll have all the time I could possibly want to read.

message 39: by Angela (new)

Angela (bubblyfish) | 53 comments I'm 92% through my present book so, with luck and some time to myself I'll start reading tomorrow. Sounds more interesting with each post :)

message 40: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments i'm 15% through in the blood now (i cant find a link for it even though Patti has) Its very good and i'm very intrigued

Took a bit of trial and error to find the link, Judith. Finally I typed in 'In the Blood Steve Robinson' which found it.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I got "A Story of 3 Trees" sounds lovely but not what i'm looking for, also energy efficiency in the home, again lovely but no. However, they do say 3rd times a charm In the Blood woop woop!

Thanks Patti

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good on ya, Judith!

message 44: by Chookgate (last edited Jul 21, 2011 11:17AM) (new)

Chookgate | 74 comments I'm torn now. I'm reading Stranger in a Strange Land- I read it once about 35 years ago and don't remember it being so "preachy". I really want to finish it, but at 80% through I'm struggling with it. Then I received overnight a kindle book I've had on preorder -it is a sequel to Shadow's Son, so I really want to reread that, and then the new one, but my son got a kindle (on my account) yesterday and bought us another book I'd like to give a go (Metro 2033). But I also really want to read In the Blood so I can contribute towards putting Steve out of his misery!

Come on Chookgate... Read 'In the Blood' first and join in the group discussion. You know you want to and those other books will still be there when you've finished. :o)

message 46: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 21, 2011 12:19PM) (new)

Well, I gave in - I'm reading two books at the mo, At Home: A Short History of Private Lifeand The Fashion Police which are both very good. But I'm too impatient to get stuck into the book of the month! 5% through so far and enjoying it. :0)

message 47: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I can only cope with one book at a time. I muddle the story's together otherwise and create some kind of hybrid novel that makes very little sense. So thankfully I was almost finished the book I was reading when 'In the Blood' was chosen as the group read and I have so many waiting for me I don't have a preference really to which one comes first so 'In the Blood it was' and what a good choice it has turned out to be :o)

message 48: by Magsy (new)

Magsy | 3 comments Just seen this and downloading now, it looks good.
Going to High Voltage festival this weekend so will give it a good go after that.

message 49: by wordsandmusic (new)

wordsandmusic | 4 comments About a third of the way in at the moment, and enjoying the read, with a few reservations. No time to get further for a little while, as I have to be away from home for work - the kindle goes too, of course, but may not see the light of day much.

message 50: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments halfway through and i'm so excited!!!!!! WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT??
