Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've been looking for it, Steve. Where was it?

message 152: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Oh no! It's another mystery!

I just clicked the book image again and there it was. I came out and clicked again and it was gone again. Very odd. A Goodreads glitch perhaps. When I click to add a question (even though it says there's no trivia or quizzes - there it is.

message 153: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments If you type '307 million' into the trivia question search field (Explore>Trivia from the main menu) it comes up.

message 154: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I did answer it Steve and i'm ashamed to say I got it wrong. I would explain why but that might give away the answer to others and also cause offence :oS so lets just leave it at that!

Haven't looked for it since but i guess now i've answered it it wont appear for me again

message 155: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments They're supposed to appear when you click on my book cover, but sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. I've added 3 now.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments ah i've only answered the one. I couldnt be bothered loading the website on my phone and i'm too lazy to log in to my emails on the laptop...

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments yes, can i please draw your attention to the word "supposed" in that sentence.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3785 comments Downloaded In the Blood (A genealogical crime mystery) by Steve Robinson a couple of days ago and started reading last night.

Update:
I have read about a quarter of it. As someone who has been researching my family history for about a dozen years I am quite interested to see how one of my other hobbies fits into my reading.

message 160: by Moominmama (new)

Moominmama | 3 comments well I've finished. Rattled through and really enjoyed it. Easy to pick up and hard to put down I say! This is great as I wouldn't have looked at it had it not been for this reading group.

message 161: by Karen (new)

Karen | 11 comments I have almost finished, I have recommmended the group and book to a couple of friends who have kindles. I am surprised to see that so few people in the group have voted for the next book.

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I was thinking of adding out-takes from In the Blood to my website. I cut 50,000 words and though none of them were really needed to tell the story, I cut some entire scenes that I really liked. They're unpolished and perhaps a little rough, but I was wondering if this is something anyone would be interested in reading. They would be spoilers, of course, so I'd have to put them in an 'Are you really sure you want to read this?' section that would be intended for readers who had read the book first. Seems like a new idea with a book and I just wondered if there would be any interest.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Steve,
I would like to read them after I finished the book.
I'm about halfway through and really enjoying it.
Thank you.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I must admit, I'd find that fascinating Steve.

message 165: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Glad you're enjoying the read, Vanessa. Could be interesting, couldn't it? Like the extras you get with DVDs and Blurays. I think I'd leave the scenes raw - errors and all if there are any (probably). It might even catch on. Imagine seeing the bloopers from big name writers.

message 166: by Patti (baconater) (last edited Aug 06, 2011 04:06PM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments If they're as good as the out takes at the end of the Shrek films, I'd love to see them! ;)

message 167: by Steve (last edited Aug 06, 2011 03:55PM) (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Nothing like as funny, Patti. But then what is? Maybe I could write a special funny scene for the end of the outtakes in the Shrek style. Like JT's on a film set and something hilarious happens and he cracks up laughing. The ideas are flowing tonight. I should go and write something!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Sounds good to me Steve.....

message 169: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd like to read your out takes!

:0)

message 170: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I'll get to work then. I Hope to have them there by next weekend, and I think it would be a fitting way to thank everyone for their support while In the Blood has been the group read, to give a little extra back as it draws to close.

message 171: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Look forward to that Steve - and I promise not to look for bloopers! (Might have to read with my hands tied behind my back!)

It shouldn't be too bad. Depends how early on in the editing process the cuts were made. I'm sure I won't be able to put them out there without giving them a once over for typos and missing words, but I want to leave the actual content alone in its first draft form so there will be overwritten bits and maybe wordy passages that I would otherwise have edited. I think it will be nice to see the rough edges.

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments A bit Sunday silliness - or maybe not.

I have an actor in mind to play JT when that big film producer calls. Who do you see playing the role?

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I remember the story of Firefox. This was Craig Thomas' big break out novel. He was teaching english in the West Midlands at the time when a guy turned up at his door representing a well known actor who wanted to buy the rights to the book for a film project he wanted to do. He asked the author to please take him to a lawyer of his choosing so that he could give him a cheque for $250,000.

It was at that point that Craig Thomas decided to become a full time author! Of course the uunmentioned actor was Clint Eastwood who had been given a copy of the book by a friend. He enjoyed it that much he decided to make the film.

message 175: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Nice anecdote, Geoff. If only...
So which actor's representative do you think I should look out for?

message 176: by Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (last edited Aug 08, 2011 01:37AM) (new)

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments My first choice would be Denzil Washington. He has the gravitas to pull it off, I believe.

My second thought would be David Duchovny. I think he is quite an under rated actor who could handle that role well.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Finished the book at 3 o'clock this morning!...what a great book.
I would have never guessed the outcome of the story. I'll definately be buying the following book and the out takes if they become available.
Thanks Steve.

message 178: by Steve (last edited Aug 08, 2011 03:22AM) (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Buy the outtakes... Now there's an idea. But no, they will be free to read on my website soon. Thanks again, Vanessa. I posted a reply to your other entry in the review thread.

I hadn't thought of David Duchovney in the role, Geoff, But now I am and yes, I can see him as JT. I had Oliver Platt in mind - particularly as he looked in 'A time to kill' or perhaps Tim Robbins.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Not sure about Oliver Platt, he dosn't seem fit enough to do the jogging that you made JT do.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Tim Robbins I could see in that part. Mind you, I'm not going to veto a relative, no matter how distant
;-)

message 181: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I couldn't really decide. There were aspects of both that I liked for JT. Someone said in their review that they could see Harrison Ford in the role if her were younger. What a shame he's too old.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I know what you mean. I thought of Harrison Ford too and dismissed him for the same reason.

There is always Kevin Spacey, of course.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I thought William Petersen of CSI fame. That's sort of how I imagine him only a bit younger.

message 184: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments As I rarely watch films and struggle to envisage the actors you're all talking about, I shall sit this one out. I WILL watch this film though!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Since reading the book, I've always thought it would make a great radio play on Radio 4.

Yes, Kevin Spacey! I couldn't think of anyone who could play JT but now that his name has been mentioned I can see that he would be perfect. Anyone know how to contact him? lol

(Be nice if we could send him the book somehow!)

:0)

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Send a copy to the Old Vic for his attention.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Geoff (G. Robbins) wrote: "Send a copy to the Old Vic for his attention."

Hmmm, I see a flaw in this plan. will you give him a kindle to read it on or photocopy the kindle pages.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments If I thought he'd read it I'd send a Kindle down to him.

message 190: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Is Kevin Spacey tall enough? Who cares, if he's interested I'll re-write the character profile and hand deliver the manuscript direct to the stage door. Kevin Spacey... I like it. Likeable. Great actor. Red carpet film premiere party anyone?

message 191: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Thanks very much for your Amazon review, Vanessa. I had a game of golf this afternoon (for the exercise and human interaction) so have been off line for a few hours or would have sent my thanks sooner. Very kind of you. Drop an 'Add me' email to 'intheblood@ymail.com if you want me to email you direct when the sequel is out.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Interesting that you mention height Steve. The Jack Reacher novels are currently being filmed. Jack Reacher is 6ft 5in tall and is being played my Tom Cruise. Go figure.

Geoff

message 193: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments That made me laugh, Geoff. I guess anything goes.

Vanessa. I got your email and have added you to the list.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments It's strange, I never saw JT as a tall man, but more the sort of slim guy who goes to the gym to keep fit of average height and build.

I don't remember you actually mentioned his height in the book. Perhaps the picture of him in your head makes you aware of how tall he is?

message 195: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments His height is definitely mentioned on Steve's website. I'm sure he's spoken of as tall in the book too. I saw him as gently gone to seed (a bit like me!)

message 196: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I see him as looking very much like Ray Mears. A bit of a marshmallow man but capable nonetheless.

message 197: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Nah. Mearsie has a baby face!

message 198: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The accent is all wrong as well. A younger Tim Robbins is good.

message 199: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments About 30% through the book and really enjoying it. My mother has been pestering me to finish it because she wants to read it next (I told her about it a few days ago when I started it). However she got her very own Kindle yesterday and I have downloaded it for her. It's going to be her first book read on Kindle ;-)

As for who would play JT in a film version. Well as I have been reading I have had in my mind a sort of cross between Gerard Butler and Russell Crowe (not exactly sure why I came up with that).

message 200: by Steve (new)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Hi Maureen, glad you're enjoying the book. Two people in the same family reading it at the same time is probably a first, and speaking of firsts, I really hope your mother's first Kindle book doesn't put her off ownership :o)

I'm not familiar with Gerard Butler (will have to look him up though), but Russell Crowe? It's really interesting to see how different people conjure varying images when reading a character in a book, which is of course one of the great aspects of words and imagination compared to film where what you see is what you get.
