I love all of your picks! I wish I had time to read them all this month, but that probably won't happen.I'm on the waiting list at the library for The Help, so I'll read that if it comes in, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I'm going to reserve The Hunger Games, Blue-Eyed Devil and Darkfever and I'll start with whichever one I can get my hands on first.

I messed up with the Tracy Ann Warren books. I forgot to mark the earlier books read. I have the last one, The Bed and the Bachelor, on hold at the library right now and will be picking it up on Tuesday. The Megan Hart book, Taking Care of Business, isn't available right now but I'd love to buddy read it if it comes in quickly enough.

I would love to read Unlocked as a buddy read. I've already read it once, so I know its on my kindle somewhere. Let me know when you want to do it.

Hi Joyce - would you like me to include in the remix of ppl missing recommendations (ie so you pick and receive)? There won't be many outstanding, but Shellbelle also wants in...

Sorry - this post was over the page. If you could just wait and I'll include you, Cynthia and Shellbelle once I know who still hasn't received their picks... I think there are still 2 outstanding...

~KarenH~ | 11334 comments AshleyAlexis - I'm looking forward to reading Chasing Fire with you. I can work it in just about anytime this month, so I'll let you pick when.

I wish my brain would let me ignore series books read out of order - I try to avoid doing it whenever possible, but occasionally it does happen, and when it does it's almost an obsession to go back and read the earlier book(s) in the series. My sister refers to this as our "completion complex" - it's really a pain sometimes! ;)

AshleyAlexis wrote: "Thanks sooo much for the recs! I enjoyed them! I've added a few to my TBR shelf that I know I wont be able to get to this month. I don't read books in order because I never realize it's part of a series until it's too late to want to go back.

I'm going to read: Kiss of Crimson and i'd liek to do the buddy read of Chasing Fire "

I'm so glad you liked them, Cathy! Maybe you can get the audio version of The Help faster? It was wonderful, complete with southern accents & everything! I can't wait to hear what you think of the others! Let me know if you get your hands on the Megan Hart book :) I'm going to start the first BoB tonight so maybe I'll catch up & we can share thoughts on the latest one anyway :)

Hi Clare!

The Highs
1st Place -
The Perfect Rake by Anne Gracie, this is on your TBR list and is one of my favourites!
Baby Names - One Dance with the Duke by Tessa Dare, another five star book, the heroine’s name is Amelia d’Orsay, love it!
New Blood - Visions in White by Nora Roberts, this author is a well-known best-seller and I’ve enjoyed many of her books

The Low
Rats and Mice in the stud shed -
Forgotten Sea (Children of the Sea #5) by Virginia Kantra, last one in the series that you haven’t read

The Daily Routine
Daily Feed -
No Man’s Mistress by Mary Balogh, my favourite book by this author
Rotating Paddocks - The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook, steampunk, don’t read much of it myself
Stud - Crazy Cool by Tara Janzen, this author really knows how to make her heroes!

Spread the Love ~ Buddy reads
Poddy Calf -
Fever by Kimberly Dean, erotica, something I don’t read much of, but Dean is one of the best authors in this genre
Breeding Stock - The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons, the greatest book of all time!

The Perfect Rake (The Merridew Sisters, #1) by Anne Gracie One Dance with a Duke (Stud Club, #1) by Tessa Dare Vision in White (Bride Quartet #1) by Nora Roberts Forgotten Sea (Children of the Sea, #5) by Virginia Kantra No Man's Mistress (Dudley, #2) by Mary Balogh The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook Crazy Cool (Steele Street, #2) by Tara Janzen Fever by Kimberly Dean The Bronze Horseman (Tatiana and Alexander, #1) by Paullina Simons

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments It's 5.30pm my time and whilst I know most of you are probably asleep, I'll provide an update on our picking situation...

We've done REALLY well! There is only one person that I haven't heard back from regarding doing their recommendations. So, I'm going to include the 3 ppl who were sad :( to miss out on the deadline for sign up and add in our one unfortunate member who missed out receiving their picks (as yet)...

My allocation isn't overly random, but I don't think that matters:

Tugce Nida to pick for Sue
Shellbelle to pick for Joyce
Joyce to pick for Cynthia
Cynthia to pick for Shellbelle

Thank you so much to all the ppl who volunteered to pick again. If I have trouble contacting the late-comers, I'll be in touch with you :)

Becky - Lili is going to get your picks to you by tomorrow, so I'm leaving her to undertake this unless I hear back from you :)

message 361: by Tuğçe (last edited Aug 01, 2011 02:16AM) (new)

Tuğçe Gökırmak (tugcenidasevin) Hi Sue,
I enjoyed time in your TBR and unfortunately added new ones to my already huge TBR. Hope you can find something for your taste, if not please let me know.

The Highs
1st Place
- One Day by David Nicholls - ever since reading this book last year, I am looking forward to every chance to recommend it. It stayed with me, hope you like it. The movie is also coming up by the end of August.
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - I saw that you liked the first one, might want to read the next, it is really good maybe even better, although it started a little bit slow.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith - My mother got me this book when I was a teenager and I still think of it,definitely a keeper. It is sad but a lovely story from a childs perspective.

Baby Names - The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole - this was my last months rec in PIFM, I really enjoyed it. Loved Nikolai Wroth and Myst the Coveted. (The next book in the series was on your TBR so maybe want to give a start)
Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips - I noticed you liked Jennifer Crusie, I read Bet me by her and enjoyed it very much. Meg Koranda is as funny and smart as Minerva Dobbs. It was my first SEP and read a few more after that right away, seems like I can always have fun with her.

New Blood - A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness - You seemed to enjoy Twilight Saga, this one is a similar type of love story, with adults and a lot more detailed background. I must admit it is not the best by all means but it is promising.
A Lot Like Love or Practice Makes Perfect - Those two are my favourite Julie James books, they are fun and easy to read.

The Low
Rats & Mice in the stud shed
- Frostbite by Richelle Mead - I know you read the first one and probably thought it was ok, ordinary etc because that was how I felt but people told me to hang on and I did and loved the series, believe me it got better and better with every next book. Try giving it a second chance.
Deeper Than Midnight By Lara Adrian - Hunter is just great, what can I say!
10th Anniversary byJames Patterson - I never read, Patterson but I saw you read the ninth book in your read shelf with 4stars so might want to read this one?

The Daily Routine
Daily Feed
- Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde - I haven't read this one buthave it in my TBR, recommended by a friend awhile ago. You read and enjoyed another book of Fforde so this might be worth trying.
Lover Unleashed by J.R. Ward - I must admit this is nothing like Lover Mine but still a good read.
An Unforgettable Lady by Jessica Bird (J.R.Ward) - It is a contemporary romance with mystery since you enjoy Ward's other books this can be a different experience.

Rotating Paddocks - By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept by Paulo Coelho - Although a lot of people like The Alchemist, this one is my favourite Coelho and I noticed it is a totally different genre for you.
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom - Very inspirational, this was recommended in one of the PIFM a few months back and I really enjoyed reading it. Morrie was just a great and wise, very wise guy.
The Secret by Julie Garwood - you are not reading a lot of historical romances, I really like them and Julie Garwood became one of my favourite in the last few months.
Broken by Megan Hart - I muct admit it is more depressing then being an erotica (well at least sorts) but it was filled with emotions and a very good story line, one of my favourites last year.

Stud - Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell - Yes I know, very long! but worth every page.
North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell - You seemed to enjoy Austen books so this one might be right for you, with less crowded words but a very good story.
Persuasion by Jane Austen - Yes I am a big classics fan but they are beautiful. This is one of my three favourite Austen's. You read the other two so might one check this one.

Spread the Love ~ Buddy reads
Poddy Calf
- A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole - Either you'll read The Warlord wants Forever or not this one in you TBR so we can try this one.

Breeding Stock -
The Help by Kathryn Stockett - I kept hearing good things about this one and it is one of the few books you haven't read that we have in common.
A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick - I know it hasn't got the best ratings but I have been wanting to read this for awhile so if you are up to it, let me know.
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld - sounds like a good plot to me, what do you think?

Happy Readings...

I would like to try to read Soulless by Gail Carriger (if I can get the book during this month)..for our buddy read I would like to read Vampire Crush by A.M. Robinson. I have my name of it at the library so as soon as it is turned in I should get it..do you have this book already?

message 366: by Alara (last edited Aug 01, 2011 05:58PM) (new)

Alara (gaelen) Shellbelle;
(I forgot to add the name, DUH)

The Highs
1st Place - Congratulations - You've just won Champion Cow at the district agricultural show!: recommend a book that you rated 5 stars.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. I saw it on your to-read-soon list. I'm surprised that you haven't read it yet. The book has lots of themes; love, religion, financial status, Byronic character, loyalty, family...

Baby Names - Naming your prize cattle: recommend a book whose H/h has a name that you love.
The Duke And I - I see you enjoy historical romance. This is the first book of Bridgerton Family series. It isn't the best HR book I've read but I'm sure you'll like it. :)

New Blood - Artificial insemination time: recommend a new to them author.
Succubus Blues or Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I don't like Twilight and other fancy vampire stuff but I love VA. I didn't expect this series to turn out good, I didn't have ANY expectations. Mead has amazing writing skills and I love her way explaining us the details and emotions. And I loved background story of the series. If you don't want Young-Adult, here is Succubus Blues from same author. I haven't read it yet; but readers say SB is for adult-readers.

The Low
Rats and Mice in the stud shed - Let's clean them up: recommend another book in a series that they have been reading, preferably one that is close to being finished.
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. You've read first two books and rated them 5 stars. That's good! I love THG series, too. It's time to read 3rd and last book; Mockingjay. It's a bit different than other two books but I still enjoyed it and loved the message given in the end of book/series.

The Daily Routine
Daily Feed - the highlight of any beast's day: recommend a book from an author that they rate highly.
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer. You have read Twilight and rated all books highly. If you miss the series, maybe this novella might satisfy you.

Rotating Paddocks - mustering the cattle to new pasture: recommend a book from a genre they don't regularly read.
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. This book is seen as a classic. A story of a man who fell in love with himself and his beauty. A man who commits crime to remain beautiful and young.

Stud - Putting the bull in the paddock, and let's face it, he's popular: recommend a well-loved classic or a sexy book (we all know what he's doing out there!)
It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Philips. Mmm~ Enjoy this chick-lit! :)

I didn't add Buddy Reads part because I slightly have time to read books; 2 or 3 in a month. I'm sorry!

Sue (knitwitsl) | 226 comments Tugce Nida wrote: "Hi Sue,

Tugce Nida,

Thank you so much for my picks! You gave me a lot of great choices.

First, I will start with Shades of Grey. I really like Jasper Fforde's writing, so I look forward to reading this one.

I also plan to read The Warlord Wants Forever. I didn't realize there was a book before A Hunger Like No Other, so I'm really glad you recommended it.

I tried reading A Discovery of Witches, but ended up returning the book to the library unfinished. I got about 60% of the way through even, but I couldn't extend the time on it, and it just wasn't worth the effort for me to finish it. I've heard mixed reviews of it as well.

I would really like to read A Lot Like Love. I've put it on hold at my library and I'm second in line. So I think I should be able to get that this month. Even if I don't, Julie James sounds like a good author and I'd love to try one of her books.

I also really like Paulo Coelho as well. So I've put By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept on hold at the library.

Like I said, you gave me a lot of great choices and I plan to read a lot of them in the future. Thanks!!

Fantastic choices Isabella! I'll only give a book 5 stars if I loved it so much that as soon as I finish reading it I want to start all over again from the beginning. Thankfully that doesn't happen very often or I'd never get around to reading any new books! :D

I'm having a hard time deciding which to read but it's made a little easier by the fact that I'm moving this month so a lot of my books are packed. I think I may get in trouble if I start tearing tape off and ripping into boxes looking for these books so that scratches [book:Twilight|41865], Outlander, The Pillars of the Earth and Jane Eyre off my list for now.

I have Anansi Boys in both paper and E-book format and The Book Thief is on my Kobo and is a group read for one of my other groups so I'll probably read those two. Disgrace looks really good as well but I'm not allowed to buy any more books until moving expenses and tuition are paid and I'm afraid I'll lose a library book in the chaos that is my house at the moment so into the ever growing TBR it goes! I've kind-of OD'd on PNR so Destined for an Early Grave will have to wait until I'm in the mood again.

I'll probably be ready to start The Book Thief next week if you'd like to read it with me then (I think it was a buddy pick?). Just let me know! And again, thank you for the awesome picks!

Cynthia, thanks for the great picks! I am def. going to read It Had to be You by SEP! I have read the rest of the Chicago series, and somehow I skipped the first one! I will also try the first book int Vampire Academy, I keep hearing great things about it, so It's time to prob. give it a try! I will try to read more, but those are the ones I def. want to read. And I'm waiting for Jane Eyre to come in on audio from the library, I like to listen to classics in the car (can't listen to my romance novels because of the teenager!lol)

Thanks again, and I'll be letting you know what I think!

Hello Joyce :) Thank you for picks.
I will read Hunted by P.C. Cast, it's a decent books series but I still wonder what will happen.
I wanted to choose Bloodlines so badly but it'll be published on 23rd and I don't want to read it on e-book. Probably I won't be able to buy paperback until September :(
However, Garden Spells looks very interesting and a friend of mine on Goodreads will read it for PIFM August. So I will try.
I would choose Evermore but... I don't want to read any more vampire series lately. Buuut I'd love to read Dark Lover. I will download ebook (NOT illegal *winkwink*) and read it with you. :)
