I decided to start our buddy read Leaving Paradise, so if you want catch up with me and read together, just let me know!"

I'll start it! How far are you on it?
I'll try to keep up, but I homeschool my kids and school starts tomorrow. I have a lot of preparations to do! I really want to read this though, so I will try. Do you want to talk about it here or PM or a thread?

message 652: by Larissa (new)

Larissa | 138 comments Haha, I didn't start it yet. I was waiting a bit for your answer and instead just finishing another book. But, well, I'm glad you want it! I've never done buddy read before (I know, I know, a shame), so I don't really know which alternative is the best. Any suggestions?

message 653: by Lacy (new)

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 1966 comments Buddy reads are fun! Usually I'll post where I'm at in the book and my thoughts once a day. Sometimes that varies, but I try to do it at least once.

I'll start a thread for it, just in case other people decide to join in! I'll post the link here for you when I'm done.

@ kami: i finished Naked in Death today and giving it 4 stars. it was great, it kept me glued to the pages from first moment and i love it how it's different from other nora books yet it's completely her style - her love for ireland is in the front again. can't wait to read the next in series. (: thank you for your rec!

message 657: by Shell (new)

Shell | 2 comments @ AshleyAlexis Finished Mouth To Mouth by Erin McCarthy . Erin McCarthy is turning into a fav author. It was refreshing to see a hearing impaired character. The plot was well paced and the dialogue witty. It was a quick read, but a good one. Thanks for the Rec!

Shellbelle | 195 comments Mouth to Mouth is my fav. Erin McCarthy books, and is in the top ten of my fav. romance books ever!!!

Ari (moochew12) | 159 comments Lisa,
So far it is pretty good. I enjoy the visuals. What do you think? I'll be more detailed as I get into it. :)

message 663: by Kami (new)

Kami (aidansmama) | 988 comments I finished another pick Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. I really liked this one and gave it four stars. I didn't like the way it ended without resolving anything and ending with more questions to be answered. Then I figured it was because it is the beginning of a series, but the second book doesn't come out till next year! Boo! One more series I have to read. I hate cliffhanger endings!

message 664: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i'm listening to Ruthless right now and loving it to - i've already added the rest of the books in the series to the list

Coffeentea | 128 comments Hi Julie,
I finished Hunting Ground and it was a good read. I like the way Anna and Charles' relationship developed and grown. Anna with some help were overcoming her past but still retained some of her vulnerability and innocence.

I'm finishing up another book, but it is a re-read, so I'll probably at least read a few chapters so I don't fall too far behind. :)

message 670: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I finally finished my buddy read with Heather - Grave Dance. I gave it ***1/2. The first book is still far better and I'm hoping the third book will be much better. I'm still invested in the series.

message 671: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (mandypants) I finished Acheron. Some of themes in that book were rough. Apparently, castration = not fun. Thanks for motivating me to read it, Cathy C.

message 672: by Heather (last edited Aug 23, 2011 04:35AM) (new)

Heather (messybar) | 189 comments Just finished Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward . It was good, made me actually like Xhex and that was the big reason I put off reading the book for so long. (I had skipped it to read the most recent Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9) by J.R. Ward .) The whole sub plot of the "ghostbusters" and Murhder wasn't interesting to me and just added to the hefty weight of words in this book. It only reinstated my thoughts that these books are getting way to long for me to enjoyment. 4 stars
Thank you Cathy for the push/pick to read it this month.

Completed for August:

Unlawful Contact (I-Team, #3) by Pamela Clare Shakespeare's Landlord (A Lily Bard Mystery, #1) by Charlaine Harris Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward
As BR:
Unlocked (Turner, #1.5) by Courtney Milan Grave Dance (Alex Craft, #2) by Kalayna Price

Elijah (Nightwalkers, #3) by Jacquelyn Frank Elijah, Jacquelyn Frank, 8-22-11
I finished another rec last night. It wasn't as good as the first two books, but I'm still planning on continuing the series.

message 677: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 700 comments I finished my buddy read Taking Care of Business. I really enjoyed Nix and Kate's story. Leah and Brandon's didn't do as much for me.

Ohhh that's one of my alltime faves. Ash's story is heartbreaking true, which makes me want to wrap him up and keep him.

Joyce, what did you think of the audio version of Soulless? I chose it to read for a challenge and hadn't even thought about listening instead even though I read about half my books that way!

message 685: by Pollyanna (new)

Pollyanna (polly8) | 300 comments Hey Elke, I finished Changeless last night, I really enjoyed it, I gave it 4 stars because I think Soulless was slightly better but I have heard the 3rd book is really good and I have to get it now after the cliffhanger at the end of this book. Thankyou for recommending it :)

message 686: by Laura (new)

Laura Williams | 144 comments I finished Vision in White. It wasn't my favorite Nora Roberts book but it was good. I gave it three stars.

I am also half way through Faking It. So far so good. :)

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments I finished Rocky Mountain Heat today and I liked it, but I'm looking forward to reading the new version that is being released in a couple of months - I think it will really benefit from the expansion. I've had this on my TBR for 2 years or longer, so thanks for the nudge to read it, Dee!

message 688: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Diane ~Firefly~, that buddy read was (The Fairy Tale Detectives) was so cute, I didn't want to put it down - so I didn't. I finished it quickly it surprised me. I gave it a 4, just because I thought it was so cute. Hoping you are enjoying it too.

message 689: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 667 comments Isabella, I finished The Book Thief this morning. I loved it! Great choice!!! I have no internet until sometime next week so I'm on my phone now but I'll post a review later and see how you are doing with it then.

Julie | 56 comments Finished my 3rd pick Runaway Mistress. Nice story. More emotional and the characters deeper than I expected. I'm glad this was a pick. Robyn Carr seems to know how to grip a reader from the beginning of her books and sustain the interest through to the ending.

~KarenH~ | 11332 comments I finished Up on the Housetop, my buddy read with Dee. It was just ok, not a waste of time, but nothing special either. Another case of a short story/novella that really needed to be 50-100 pages longer to flesh out the storyline and descriptions.

Thanks for all the great recs, Dee!

Yep, I did enjoy it. I will probably only give it a 3 though (which is what I tend to give 85% of my books). I think I'll eventually read further in the series as it was cute.

Soulless today 8/27/11. I give it 4 stars.

@MountainKat I really enjoyed the audiobook. It is very well done. The narrator really brings the different characters to life. I will probably listen to the next one if it is done by the same narrator.
