Dee, I also noticed you chose a 960 page book- the new Stephen King. Wow, that's really huge. Love the title 11/22/63: A Novel- Kennedy was assasinated on my Mom's 21st birthday- that's a day she will never forget. She was supposed to go to a play in NYC that night and everything just shut down, there was literally nothing open, the whole country in mourning. The book looks really good, I haven't read Stephen King in a really long time.

i'm not a horror king fan, but I liked Green Mile - this one seems to be going back to his SF roots with the alternate history - could be a long but interesting buddy read, if you are interested
Thanks Dee, for the world Lit books. I just need to narrow them down.Would Maya Banks (Sweet Surrender) considered an erotic book for this challenge?
Here is an explanation for GLBT- the following definitions encompass the term:•Gay - attraction to someone of the same sex, such as a man to another man, or a woman to another woman. This term can be used by both men and women
•Lesbian - attraction of a woman to another woman
•Bisexual - attraction of a person to both men and women
•Transed - 'Trans' can be used by and to describe people who are transgendered, transsexual or cross-dressers (transvestites)
•Transgendered - Transgendered people feel that the sex they were assigned at birth does not fit easily with their own gender identity. For example, a boy with male genitals may feel emotionally and consciously like a girl, and a girl, with female genitals, may feel like a boy.
•Transsexuals - Transsexuals usually want to live full-time as the gender they identify with and may choose medical procedures such as hormone treatment or surgery to change their bodies appropriately.
•Cross-dressers (transvestites) are those who choose to wear clothes that are considered to be for the opposite gender but may not want to change their bodies. Cross-dressers like to wear clothing of the opposite gender but, generally, do not identify with that gender and do not want to change their body.

Yes, that would be an erotic romance.
Dee wrote: "i'm not a horror king fan, but I liked Green Mile - this one seems to be going back to his SF roots with the alternate history - could be a long but interesting buddy read, if you are interested"Ummm....thanks anyway Dee! That is just too long for me. But I hope you love it.

Vi, that is a great series, I have read the first 3 and really enjoyed them.

I like the Sweet Series, though I thought the second book was better ;)

I just saw that, well I have posted mine early but still that was just my luck and I think I should stop reading the messages in reverse order!!!
if anyone would like chick-lit options - here is the top 100 that was done recently - http://www.chicklitclub.com/ultimate1...

The second book is my favorite!
Vi wrote: "Thanks Rossy. Great. Are the books supposed to be read in order?"They are a group of friends/co-workers, every book is a different story with same people around. So not a 100% connected in the story line :)

Same with me. I would actually think it would be best to read them in order, but that's because i have OCD about reading about a pairing that already happened, and then going to read their HEA.LOL
@ Fran another inspirational By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept, I actually like most of his books :) & for Mitch Albom I tried reading one of his books a few years back and didn't enjoy at all maybe the book, the translation or my mood was the problem, i am not sure. @Rossy, I totally understand you on that, even though I know it is not totally connected I still feel the need to read from the first book or i am worried about what i missed in the previous book to consantrate the recent one.
If you need some chick lit recs, I have read and enjoyed books by Sophie Kinsella, Jennifer Weiner and Lauren Weisberger. For YA,some good ones are:
The Book Thief (in the event someone hasn't read it!)
Harry Potter series (has anyone not read them??)
The Hunger Games (ditto)
Vampire Academy
Perfect Chemistry
Anna and the French Kiss
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

you are not going to believe me but haven't read this one yet :)
In looking for the last book to complete my list, I found Three Times the Scandal on the book list in GLBT. however, I don't know if it qualifies when I read the book brief. Review comments indicated m/m/f/m and erotic but will it qualify (I have already purchased it so I hope so) ???
Steamywindows♥♫ wrote: "In looking for the last book to complete my list, I found Three Times the Scandal on the book list in GLBT. however, I don't know if it qualifies when I read the book brief. Revie..."This book is really Erotica. According to one reviewer, there are multiple menage scenes with the heroine and two men, both men only with the woman. There is one scene where there are two men together, along with the woman and another man. Maybe that one scene is why someone listed it under GLBT. I'm sorry Steamywindows, but the main characters of the book should fall under either the gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender definition. Can you use it for your Erotica choice instead? Although I enjoyed Simple Need, your current choice, this one sounds better! I have a few m/m choices on my kindle lendable shelf I would be happy to lend you if you want :)
Big kindle sale until July 27th. This will come in handy as some of these books are actually agency priced for up to 12! http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=s...
for inspirational, I would totally recommend The Hiding Place - takes place during WW2 about Corrie Ten Boom and her family in their efforts to save jewish individuals in neatherlands - wasn't overall preachy - at least to me, but more, in their every day lives and when they were in times of crisis
Grrr.. I have a question: How do you see the genre for a book? YA or Mystery etc? I've never figured this out
Vi wrote: "Grrr.. I have a question: How do you see the genre for a book? YA or Mystery etc? I've never figured this out"You can check the shelves on the right side of the books page on GR to get a good idea. But those shelves are not always accurate. You can always ask here in this thread if you're not sure, and Rossy, our resident Genre guru will help you out if one of us can't. There will be overlaps in genres so don't stress. A mystery book can be YA and vice-versa, a YA book can contain a mystery.
I'm almost ready to post my list, but I have question I need answered first: can I use an atheism book (like "Letter to a Christian Nation")for the Religious/ Inspirational category? If not, can anyone suggest a non-christian, religious/ inspirational romance?
Yes Amy, Letter to a Christian Nation works. It is shelved under Religion and discusses Christianity. I don't think pro or con should matter, there is religious dialogue.

I actually haven't read the book thief yet.
maybe women's lit...which is the same duel category...its got more of the path through life features than the funny that I associate with chick-lit
I have Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah for Women's Fiction. I wanted to fit a book into Chick-Lit but I'm too lazy to find a book I like. Would the The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper work for the Chick-Lit category? What do you think Dee/Rossy?
Vi wrote: "I have Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah for Women's Fiction. I wanted to fit a book into Chick-Lit but I'm too lazy to find a book I like. Would the [book:The Art of Seducing a Naked W..."Yes, you can use that for chick-lit.
okay! I have most of my books chosen, except for World Literature/International. These are some of my picks for that category: 1. Eat, Pray, Love (but i saw the movie, and even though they say the book is different. I don't want to cheat!)
2. Anna and the French Kiss and
3. Every Boy's Got One
Are these good choices? Please let me know, so I can post my picks and start the challenge! yeah! TIA!!
Hi Shirley!I would say yes to Eat,Pray,Love and Anna and the French Kiss but no to Every Boy's Got One. The last one seems to be much more focused on the story between the 2 main characters and not very focused on the culture/customs of the country they go to. I haven't read it but based on the reviews I wouldn't put it in World Lit/International. Are you OK with one of the first two or would you like some more recs?

Thanks!!! I'll choose Anna and the French Kiss since I've had it on my to read shelf for a while and I already saw the movie of the other one! Thanks again!
Working on my list - would Stephanie Plum work for chick-lit?Oh, I just know I will be back with more questions later...
there is a lot of YA nowadays that falls into dystopia categoryif you want some thing more adult, then any books with alternative history work
Kat,Heard these are really good but haven't read them yet-dystopia/sci-fi-
Matched
Unwind
The Host
Across the Universe
Graceling
Matched was pretty good - I have the second one on the pile for the dystopia one which is supposed to be out later this yeargraceling was good, i would call it more fantasy than sci-fi...set in a whole other world, no real similarities to our world
