Wow, thanks for making that convenient list Jamie.
Wow, thanks for making that convenient list Jamie.I know I'm not a very active part of the group. I promise to work on that, because this is such a neat group. Anyway, I've got most of those. lol. Uh, twitter is 'strangeaslife'. Same with myspace URL. Personal website/blog is strangeaslife.wordpress.com. If anyone contacts me through one of those three places and asks for facebook info I will personally give that away.
Hey guys :) I'm new to the group but I saw this thread at the top and thought I'd add my stuff...

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I'm currently abroad in Egypt, though I'm slated to return at the end of May. It's certainly been an interesting experience!

Jamie wrote: Wow! That sure sounds interesting! How long have you been there and when do you leave?I arrived in mid-January (really quite randomly too, because I opted out of campus housing in favor of finding an apartment), and am due to leave at the end of May. Right now, my flight is booked for May 30, but I may readjust to leave on May 27. I do enjoy it, and my Arabic is improving leaps and bounds, but I certainly miss home!

I'm taking Arabic, art history (Islamic art and architecture of Cairo), and two political science classes. But of those, I think I like Arabic the best. Where do you go to school? I'm a student at the University of Rochester in New York (state).
 I'm at Berkeley. : )
I'm at Berkeley. : ) I think it's really awesome that you're studying Arabic! I'm guessing you're a polisci major? What made you decide to go to Egypt?
 Rochester! My uncle lives there.
Rochester! My uncle lives there.Arabic is fascinating. If I had more free time, I'd certainly be interesting in learning it. My friend (who's graduating in three weeks) is studying Arabic at Uni St Andrews.
@Nools: Neat! I'm looking at some schools in CA for graduate work. I bet you have wonderful weather. I'm actually a Religion and Int'l Relations double major, focusing on Islam. (Hence, Egypt.) But I also am really interested in how essential Egyptian mobilization is to the larger understanding of Middle East/Arab political mobilization and democratization movement.

I'm actually from there as well. I definitely recommend learning Arabic; it's been one of the most rewarding classes I've ever taken.
It may not be the best time to attempt learning a new language; I'm currently in the process of regaining my fluency in Greek and Portuguese. It's amazing how rusty I've become.

Understandable. I went to Spain during spring break, and reviving my rusty Spanish was somewhat painful. When I returned, I was speaking a mish-mash of English, Spanish, and both Egyptian and written Arabic. I have to admit, I do look forward to not having any communication issues in a few weeks.

Jess: I love how well both of your majors marry into your very specific interest! If you don't mind another question: do you know what you want to do in the future?

Yes, I'm a junior. I'm actually considering urban planning and design, which seems to blend my outside interests with my majors; I don't think I really want to do anything directly related to either of my two majors as of right now, though this might change. How about you?

I'm also a junior. But I have no idea what I'll be doing in a couple years. Education? Medicine? Research? Starving aspiring novelist? It's looking like medicine for now, but I'd like to do any of the above.

Nice casserole, btw. : ) I'm starving right now, and it looks so heartily delicious....
I started a Twitter account a couple weeks ago. I find the concept unnecessary and silly, but it's become an annoying fascination and I find myself doing it to annoy my friends because they hate it so much :)

Great blog Jacqueline! I love how you shamelessly plugged GR into one of your posts :)
PS- I'm with you on the circus cruelty. I've only been once long time ago when I was still a kid and even then I knew I would never go to one again. 15 years later and I still haven't been to one
Sara, so I logged into flickr for the first time in several months and saw the comment you left on one of my pictures. I know it was forever ago, but thanks! :D

I just started a new blog. It is based on the Day Zero Project challenge to complete 101 predetermined tasks or goals in 1001 days. One of my goals is to have people read my blog, so it would be great if people would at least check it out. I have posted my full 101 item list so far. Check it out, and let me know if you want to do a challenge too. I'd love to support you if you do!

Hey everyone, I have a brand new site at livejournal. It's a requirement for my Education course. Student teachers are required to share their experiences in the classroom over the next quarter. I have tenth graders! So feel free to stop by, especially if you have any advice or comments to share!
