Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Thanks Steph!

Good to hear from you Sallie. Glad you are making progress. How do you like the book? I'm really looking forward to your review. I've got this one TBR. Found an autographed copy here in town a long time ago, just never have gotten around to actually reading it!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Jessica - I too will be finishing the series, I need to read several to catch up, but I've got Hit List coming to me soon, so I'm hoping that will motivate me to get to reading them again!

message 205: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome :) Congrats!

message 206: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yeah team!

I like the early books in the Anita series and have stuck with it thru her later books too. Her Meredith Gentry fae series isn't bad either, just pretty steamy.

message 207: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Reading straight thru the series is the best way. Have fun... I missed Obsidian Butterfly when I read thru the series somehow, so thats the only one I need to read.

How do you like your Kindle? and do you need the fancy one or is the basic model ok too? I'm about to take the eReader plunge I think...

Lis | 4037 comments Alright ladies! Ready to go...

Up early and finally uploaded all my vacation photos from Europe on facebook √ Cleaned house √ Dishes √ Laundry √ Floors √ Kids fed √ Picked my book out for the new shelf...... Wait a minute, Steph... Steph?? Where are you Steph????

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Still no Steph???? Sheesh! So, what....she thinks she actually needs to sleep???? LOLOL

I guess we can wait for a bit more. Think I may have to make some coffee though. This was my first Saturday back at work. Feel like I hardly slept last night. I was up every couple of hours checking the clock, making sure I hadn't missed the alarm....

message 210: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Oh good, I thought maybe I messed up and was a day early... Tommorrow is a wonderful day of back to school clothes shopping with my 8 year old daughter (that is going on 16), so I wanted a head start today.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments LOL Lis.....almost sounds worse than trying to shop with my 11 yr old grandson. He only wants to have black stuff. Why did I even bother to take him when I went to get his school supplies???? I wanted him to try on some jeans. Oh the moaning and groaning. You would have thought he was being tortured!

message 212: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments My daughter hates jeans too... Thank goodness they make them with the elastic and buttons now. All you have to do is make sure you have the link and draw them in. LOL, I like wearing black too, but I think it makes me look thinner, ha ha...

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Our Next Shelf is: 'alpha male'
DIRECT LINK: 'alpha male'

Happy Reading!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments This is gonna be tough.....almost every book I own has an alpha male! ARGH!!!!!!

message 215: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Anyone read Shelly Laurenston's Pride series? Do you need to read them in order? I have Beast Behaving Badly, but have not found the earlier books yet.

message 216: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Never mind, I found The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook which has been sitting patiently on my table just waiting to be read for a couple of challenges. Since his little muscular abs are looking at me, I pick him and all his black leatherness!

LOL! I sometimes get up early, but 4.5 hrs ago was 0230 for me. ;)

Hope ya had a great time on holiday!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments IIRC each book is about a different couple. So, you probably don't have to read them in order - but - there is usually a few references to previous couples or situations.

So - IF you don't mind being only slightly clueless, it should be OK!

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I've been offline for a bit. I believe I've got everyone's cards stamped correctly, but would like to confirm. Please let me know if I'm missing a stamp anywhere. Thanks! :)

(x = no stamp; team # = stamp)

x x x x 5 6 x ~ Free Space
1 2 3 4 5 6 x ~ 4 stars
x 2 3 4 5 6 x ~ favorite series

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1143 comments My pick for the shelf alpha-male is going to be Maverick (Elite Ops, #2) by Lora Leigh

message 221: by Crystal S (new)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments I'll read Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling, #2) by Nalini Singh for the alpha-male shelf.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I think I'm gonna read Broken but I'm not completely sold on it..... I'm looking at my books and wishing I had put more of them into the system here! I have a ton of books that "should" be shelved as alpha-male, but they are nowhere to be found. Alas, I may just have to start a new series.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Steph - our stamps are OK. Thanks!!!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Here are my choices. Just can't decide!

Broken (Rafferty, #2) by Shiloh Walker Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling, #2) by Nalini Singh

Slave to Sensation I read several years ago (and loved), but thinking I might need to reread it before I continue. Recommendations????

message 225: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments @ Cindy - I've only read the Singh and Andrews series and both are good. Singh's are more PNR. Its kind of unfair though, because his furriness Curran is one of my favorite Alphas...

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments "His furriness".....ROFLMAO!!!!

I think since I really prefer to read series fairly close together, I'm gonna go with His furriness.

Jessica, sorry hun, but could you change my book to Magic Strikes?

message 227: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Definitely agree with reading 'His Furriness' also 'His Fluffiness' even though you've put him up against another fav, Nalini :)

Enjoy!

message 228: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments About a third of the way thru mine. The Duke is definately an Alpha... and it has zombies which I didn't pay that close attention to when picking it up. Does this count as my first zombie book yet, or is this one just "zombie light"?

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Haven't read it, but now that I know there are zombies I may just have to take a closer look! LOL

message 230: by Lili (last edited Aug 14, 2011 05:35PM) (new)

Lili | 297 comments hahahaha!
Every book listed in the first page it's either on my TBR or I already read it... yeah, I have a thing for alpha males.

I'll be reading Deeper Than Midnight by Lara Adrian since I already had planned on reading it for the monthly challenge.

I'm halfway through with Catching Fire, I want to finish it today since it's my very last day of laziness... teachers go back to school tomorrow, gotta get ready for the kids!

message 231: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yeah Jessica! I probably won't finish mine until later tommorrow, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

@Cindy it has a similar reading feel as The Greyfriar with the Steampunk world and traveling around Europe in air ships, even though the storyline is completely different. The zombies are just a threat not a big part of the story yet.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments UGH......I think I am the only person around that didn't like The Greyfriar. It was OK, but it didn't knock my socks off! I'm thinking that steampunk may not be for me......

I just got started on Magic Strikes today. I've got a lot of stuff that I really need to do tomorrow while I have a day off, but I am already getting sucked into the story. Doubt that I will be able to stay up tonight and read late, didn't get much sleep last night. I'll just have to work for an hour or so and reward myself with reading for an hour or so.....

message 233: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Don't forget when your done with Magic Strikes you have to visit the Ilona Andrews website and read a couple of the scenes from Curran's POV... http://www.ilona-andrews.com/tag/curr...

And you are one book closer to one of the best scenes in the series coming up in Magic Bleeds... But don't read that POV, it would be a spoiler!

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Thanks Lis - I wouldn't have known about them.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments LOL Jessica - I remember thinking the same thing. Gotta say - Jean Claude is my favorite vamp of all time.......very drool worthy!

message 236: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Finished my "Alpha" Shelf book: The Iron Duke

Date finished: August 16,2011
Rating: ★★★ 1/2
Review:
Enjoyed this book and the "steampunk" world this story was set. Started a little slow for me with the world building, but the storyline was unique enough and kept my attention. I found the main characters attraction and communication with each other a little awkward at times, but still a good read. Looking forward to the next book, met the characters that will be in the spotlight and they should be pretty entertaining.

message 237: by Crystal S (last edited Aug 16, 2011 10:18PM) (new)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments See, as much as I liked the Anita Blake series (let me stress liked), I never found Jean-Claude appealing at all. I think he was always too feminine for me. Or something. It was his long hair (which I never, ever like) and his lacy shirts. However, it's been awhile since I've read any of them, so I can't be sure that I'm not confusing him with someone else.

Now Wraith I can get behind. (view spoiler)

I guess I should start my alpha male book already. I'm nearly done with my free space book
Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater . I can assure y'all that the review will not be a favorable one. :-(

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Hellooooooo........ Anybody out there??????

message 239: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (lyssad87) | 974 comments *squeals* I am! *runs to Cindy wearing a Cinderella costume* Please grant my wishes, Fairy Godmother!! *hugs* :-D

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I finished my book for the Alpha Male shelf.

Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews 8-18 ****

Magic Strikes started a bit slow for me, but WOW, did the ending ever make up for that! Don't tell, but I found myself sneaking peeks at the book and reading it sentence by sentence when we didn't have customers in the PO....managed to finish before I left work!

I'm really glad I have the next 2 on hand. I do have some questions....(view spoiler)

message 241: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yes Enabler I'm here!!! and I added another one of your books to my list to aquire from a comment you made!

message 242: by Lis (new)

message 245: by Lis (last edited Aug 18, 2011 05:32PM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments OK peek at the Prologue in MAGIC BLEEDS... You only half to sneek a peek at the first 5 1/2 pages to answer your question.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments But....then I'll just want to keep reading it! I need to read The Help so I can give it back to my friend......

Just 5 1/2 pages? SIGH.......now I have to read it.....

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Lis - you meanie!!!! Now I'm hooked in Kateland again......

message 248: by Lili (last edited Aug 19, 2011 08:31PM) (new)

Lili | 297 comments O.o

Just finished Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins 08/19*****

holy crap!
how's that for a cliffhanger?!
The twist with the hunger games was totally unexpected and I don't know if I have a team at all, Gale and Peeta are so different but I like them both!
And what about Haymitch???
I want to keep this spoiler-free but it's hard since this book was full of... stuff!!
Amazing!... I can't wait for the movie, I seriously hope they don't mess it up, this is such a great series.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments YAY Lili!!!!! Whatcha gonna read next????

message 250: by Lili (new)

Lili | 297 comments oooh Jessica!, I sooo want to do that too!!
I knew this was gonna happen so I bought Catching fire and Mockingjay at the same time... I'm saving it for the YA shelf since it isn't my favorite kind of book, but it better come up soon because I can feel my hands itching!

And this week has been CRAZY at work but it'll be nothing compared to the next one when we get the kids... ahhh I can't wait!, I can't believe how much I miss the little buggers!!
I'm trying to catch up with my reading and I already have Deeper Than Midnight on my Kindle so... I'll better get to it so I can be ready for the next shelf.
