SOLVED. book about a blind boy who befriended a wild pony [s]

I am looking for the name of a book that I read a long time ago. It is about a blind boy who befriended a wild pony. Everyone thought that the horse was too dangerous for him, but he was able to ride the pony around without a halter or bridle and the pony looked out for him. At the end of the book, the boy went into the hospital for a long time to get eye surgery done so he could see and the horse ended up going even crazier. When the boy came home from the hospital, the horse ran out to meet him, but someone thought the horse was attacking the boy, and shot and killed it. Please help me remember the name of this book. Thanks!
