It'd be good to get recommendations based on books we liked. For example, people that like
might like
. Maybe. That's just my example, I could be wrong! :P Any other recommendations?

I just recently read Acheron and I thought Kenyon completely ignored the fact that it had been 12,000 years between the time of the matters you're referring to and the time of the H/h interaction. Imagine what a (ahem) god must have seen and experienced in that time (v. aprx a 12 year period in his early life). I just think the character could have had more gravitas.... something like Raphael in Singh's Guild Hunter series.

I plan on going back to it but don't know when. I didn't read the series in order, but the books I read all were the same so I had to take a step back.
Lol Peep. Well, I guess you didn't like it much more than I did. I can imagine that the Dark Hunter series get repetitive. I skipped around also. I think Night Play (Dark-Hunter, #5) was the best and I DNF'd the .5 book.
Okay, I love the BDB books and I would like to try the Sherrilyn Kenyon book. However the book mentioned is #15 of the Dark-Hunter series.....what is #1 ( I have to read in order)???
Hmmm, I didn't think about that. :{ I read series out of order all the time so listening to me might not be best. Maybe someone else can tell us if reading out of order is recommended. Have you tried Lord of the Underworld series? Or maybe Immortals After Dark?
Georgiana wrote: "Lol Peep. Well, I guess you didn't like it much more than I did. I can imagine that the Dark Hunter series get repetitive. I skipped around also. I think Night Play (Dark-Hunter, #5)..."I haven't read that one. I'll see if I can borrow a copy.

All I've read (and I've liked them all) was the BDB (first 4), A Hunger Like No Other(isn't this one part of Immortals After Dark??) and some of the BREED series from Lora Liegh.
Honestly, to get the full flavor of any series you must read them in order. The way things happen is a follow through to the next, which makes it hard to invest in the series as a whole if not read in order. That's why if the next book has taken awhile to come out I'll re-read the last 2 books just to get into the right mind frame to fully enjoy the story. It's well worth it, especially if there are a bunch of books in the series and you can just read one right after the other.
Ideally, I'd agree with Justina but series tend to be spotty sometimes, as far as quality. Also, some authors are better at making their series books standalones as well. As I said, I simply picked and chose among the Dark Hunter series. I read the first full book first (Night Pleasures) which I thought was fairly good (although not a particularly dangerous hero). I think the next I read was Night Play (Dark-Hunter, #5), as I mentioned above. I would definitely recommend it (not a dangerous hero either but he was great). I didn't bother me at all that I had skipped although at the beginning it mentions that the H/h met in a previous book. Then I went back and read Dance with the Devil which was pretty good (I think it was #3). I said what I thought of Acheron (blech). Have a few more on the tbr pile but like some of you, not thrilled.
The Immortals After Dark series, on the other hand, was great almost book for book.
A Hunger Like No Other
is a very good book. Hero is actually fairly dangerous to begin with. I have my favorites in the series but they are all good. I bought a Lords of the Underworld bundle for Kindle and only read 1 and 1/2 of three stories but other people seem to love it.
lol I had no idea that A Hunger Like No Other was a second book in the series! I thought it was the first. I did love the book though and never got the feeling that I was missing anything as I do sometimes when that happens.
I love Immortals After Dark, the men in those series are definitely manly men (I remember one being shot in the chest by three arrows and him punching them and pulling them out from behind - not even in battle, but to get to his woman!). Well, I like them crazy like that! I might not have enjoyed all the books in the series but as a whole it's one of my faves. Same goes for Lords of the Underworlds. Most were duds but I keep picking up the next one, even with all the ridiculousness. My ratings for both series are all over the place.
I like BDB as a series, but the last few books I really didn't like (though I did read Rhev's book 2nd (after starting and quiting V's), and liked that one enough to read Wrath's).
Usually, I pick a book from a series that I think I'll like, and if I do I go back and read the rest. Unless it's a long series, with nearly 20 books, then I just read ones that sound good or have high ratings.
For me I always need to read the series by their serial number in the series.. I never skip any, cause I always think there is something that I might need to know for the next one... I guess it's the OCD in me lol my first adult paranormal series was the Darkness Chosen Series by Christina Dodd... I was so addicted to her work that I'm reading all her other work now and enjoying it!! The I got BDB and now I'm in the Dark series... and I'm always reading more than one book at a time, cause I can't seem to get enough of it! I have over 1000 books on my to read list and I can't seem to have enough hours in the day to finish reading what I want to read... but I can never skip a book in a series... and if there was some darkness in them, I'm hooked right away...

HI everyone. What ever does it for you, I say enjoy. I can't help but read everything in order. I'm freaky like that. I feel like I'm missing something, which of course you do and then certain things don't make sense. Most of these series are so good that reading them all isn't a chore. I need more time in the day!!!
Happy reading!!!!

Oh I'm the same way! It's so bad that I need all of the prequel's, and the novella's etc that take place between each book. I thoroughly research a series before I start it, just to be sure I don't miss something, or that I have the right series order. But, that's part of the fun for me I guess.

I generally read books in order, but sometimes I cheat. I'm cheating with the Carpathians. It hasn't really hurt my enjoyment though.
I can tell you that I didn't read Sherrilyn Kenyons books in order. I read Acheron first and then just kind read whatever book I could get my hands on in the series. I didn't feel like I missed anything by reading the books out of order. There are some books that you really must read in order if you want to keep track of what's going on because every story leads up to something, like BDB. I didn't feel like the Dark Hunter books were like that. I feel like they would do well as standalone.Unfortunately I really didn't care for IAD. I read book 2 & 3 and just couldn't get into the heroines. I'm going to try and read book 4 since I have it, I hear it gets better.

Yes, that's exactly who I am talking about. Am I missing something by not reading the Cassie Palmer books first? Any the tiniest detail? LOL!
✿Michelle✿ wrote: "Yes, that's exactly who I am talking about. Am I missing something by not reading the Cassie Palmer books first? Any the tiniest detail? LOL! "I do not want to spoil it for you. Mircea and LC are cross-over characters from the Cassie Plamer series(actually all the Senate vamps are in both series). Even if they can be read as stand alone series, they are interconnected slightly. The Dory #1 book takes place after book 2 of Cassie Palmer. There are strong suspicions that Dory and Cassie will meet 'cause Dory is Mircea's daughter and Mircea is seing a lot of Cassie...but as of book 5 of the Cassie series...nothing really important has occurred to impact either series yet. Cassie is not a kick-ass heroine...more like in need of rescuing 'cause she gets into trouble all the time but she is not TSTL.
Really you should check it out, it's the same universe, same events looked at in a different perspective. You get to know Mircea as a head of the family, know how LC got turned into a vamp...why he is so bitter...
Ok, I'm shutting up now.

Nooo!!!! Don't shut up, LOL! I was feeling as if I should read the Cassie Palmer series first. I need to know more about Mircea anyway. Thanks for the info :)
Fair warning Michelle, Touch the dark suffers from first book syndrome. The pacing is not even and the back and forth annoying at times. By the second book, it's non-stop action and the flow of the storytelling is no longer an issue. When you get to book 3, tell me if you still like Mircea or (view spoiler)

Oh I will! Thanks for the info :)
Does anyone have one or more Kiss An Angel, Susan Elizabeth Phillips?
Also, anyone has a suggestion for something similar to DD Barant Bloodhound series
? I really loved the other dimension construct. Also the pop culture references that the other characters did not understand.

To Pleasure a Prince--I love the hero in this book. He's a bookloving, scarred hermit, who's rather grumpy.
From This Moment On--the hero is described as loutish. There is no sex, but I love this book.

Thanks Danielle, both are from series that I have been wanting to get to.. now I have an excuse! I'm ok with no sex, so long as there is romance and sexual tension :) Do the De Paiget series have to be read in order?

you will most likely enjoy
. Zsadist and Zane had very similar characteristics. Gotta love those "Z" hero's. Both were scarred alpha males who find their peace through the love of a woman.
If you like Suzanne CollinsHunger Games, you might like Joss Ware's The Envy Chronicles (dystopia, but not YA) Beyond the NightThis is a great thread idea! A nice way to find new authors :)
