Cheryl (cherylllr) Do remember you can change your mind about the books you intend to read at any time. You can also list "TBD" (to be determined) (or words of your own choosing) for different months.
I like Janice's strikeouts but I'm not comfortable with html so my reporting thread is a little different.

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments When are they doing the read-a-thon? My schedule is pretty hectic for at least the rest of the month. November doesn't look much better.

I think either country would be fine.

Welcome to YLTO and I hope you enjoy the challenge. :)

message 54: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Judy, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I am confused. If you're posting every hour or two about the book you're reading, isn't that cutting into reading time?

I think the idea sounds kinda fun, but I would not be able to participate. I already read every chance I get! :)

Turtlecollector Dennis Hi, I am new to this group. I would like to join this challenge but I have a question. Do I start from now counting my 12 books or can I count ones I have read since July? I am a fast reader, so either option is OK. I will start a thread in the other folder so I can prepare part of my list.

message 56: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments As long as you didn't read the books prior to July 1, 2011, you may count them.

Welcome, Kirsten. :)

Thanks. I will try starting from here, but if I get stuck I may use a book from after July.

message 58: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments That sounds great, Kirsten. Enjoy!

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments Judy wrote: "Chelsea, you can still join in. Any books that you have read since July 1st, 2011 that fit in the categories will count, right Janice?"

Yes, you can still join in Chelsea. If you can identify books that you started after July 1, 2011 and fit the challenge, you can add them. You can also use books you will be reading for the "Around the World" challenge if they fit any of the tasks.

message 60: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 Ok everybody - I have just set my challenge post up - using books read since July 1st (a quick click on the link will back this up anyway) and a list of the titles I have selected to read to finish off the challenge :)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Welcome!

message 64: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments Can you read 13 books between now and Jun 30/12, Kimberley? If so, you can still join in.

message 65: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I can!

message 66: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments Super! :)

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments There's no excuse then! Hop to it Kimberly. *wide grin*

message 68: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Just found this Listopia: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/13.... If it's already been posted, plz consider this a 'bump' for newbies. :)

message 69: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Brown I'd love to join this. I know it is really late! I looked at my books read since July and only one book qualifies (although that one is questionable). I read a Tuscan Holiday because I wanted to visit Italy and I knew we were visiting Italy. I read the book in July and visited Tuscany in August. Does that count??? :) I'm searching my kindle books now to see if any fit any of the categories and will start reading. Sorry to jump in 1/2 way through the challenge, but I like a good challenge!

message 70: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (paperrdolls) | 122 comments They say its never too late.. however i have interesting quirks that wont let me start till 2012-2013..

You may jump in now if you like and you may count Tuscan Holiday since you read it during the dates specified by the challenge.

I jumped in on the challenge and I started late too. I started the end of December and I am almost done lol : )

message 73: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Brown Wow! U must be a speed reader!, I joined two other challenges....the food and the roughing it and was having fun going back and forth reading books that would fit both categories. I read 2 for glorious food and 3 for roughing it so when I saw this I thought i could focus my energy on this challenge. It was fun coming up with the list! Back to reading!

message 74: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (gemmagem20) I fancy joining in on this, is it too late?

message 75: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Not at all. In fact, if you have a record of the books you've read since July 2011, you might find some that fit some of the categories that you've already read.

message 76: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) For example, Gemma, I see you read The Swan Thieves in December. If swans are a Favorite Animal, you could Report that book on 'Gemma's Reporting Thread'.

message 77: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (gemmagem20) Thank Janice, on reflection I am not going to have time to finish the task without my kindle I have to rely on book swaps - I'll be getting the kindle end of Feb, early March and have visitors coming over and a wedding to go to etc- I will join in the next one for sure x

message 78: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments No problem, Gemma. It's good to recognize your limitations. :)

But your first post, introducing the challenge says
"The challenge begins July 1, 2011 and ends June 20, 2012".

It really is the 30th, isn't it?

message 80: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments Yes, it ends on June 30, 2012. Sheesh! I really messed that date up because originally I had 2011. I will fix that - again.

message 81: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11463 comments For month 10, I chose Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas by Tom Robbins . but then got Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas by Tom Robbins from the library. Is it good enough yo have the name of my favorite animal on the cover?

The guidelines don't say "how" the animal needs to be on the cover. It doesn't specify that it should be a picture, so I think you're safe, Almeta.

message 83: by Anna Marie (new)

Anna Marie I've got 5 to go but am having difficulty getting my hands on some of the ones I selected.

Does anyone have a author suggestion for an author with the name Anna?

Anna Sewell
Anna Quindlen
Anna Godbersen

Click on the "add book/author" link and do a search for "anna" in the author field.

message 85: by Anna Marie (new)

Anna Marie Yes, I've search that way. Just wasn't sure if anyone had anything to recommend by an author with that name. My library doesn't have the one I had selected.

How about a book written by a Marie? Or a book by an author that shares your last name?

message 8: by Judy, Moderator Apr 08, 2012 02:28pm

Esther, you can still enter this challenge by starting a new thread and copy and pasting the monthly goals. However, this challenge ends June 30th, so you may want to begin with the new challenge that starts July 1st. (You can use books you've read since July 1st, 2011 to qualify for this particular challenge though.)

message 9: by esther Apr 08, 2012 05:56pm

Thank you. I'll record a few and then start anew in July

message 10: by Janice, Moderator Apr 09, 2012 09:27am

A word of warning... it will be a new challenge in July with new qualifiers. Books you choose for this challenge won't apply to the next. *runs off to think up quirky challenges for July*

message 12: by esther Apr 09, 2012 12:25pm

I was just going to look back to July 2011 and see if any books I read qualify. Does that work? Thanks

message 13: by Judy, Moderator Apr 09, 2012 02:26pm

Yes Ma'am, you can do it that way. Fingers crossed for you.

message 14: by Janice, Moderator Apr 10, 2012 12:21pm

esther wrote: "I was just going to look back to July 2011 and see if any books I read qualify. Does that work? Thanks"

Yes, absolutely - as long as you started them after July 1, 2011.

message 17: by esther April 15, 2012

I'm enjoying going back to July and matching books to requirements. Questions: 1. Can I use a book read this month for the 2nd month requirement? 2. Do I wait til June to post all books here? 3. Do I post mysteries for April as I finish them? Plus these won't be the listed ones as I have too many others to read. Thanks again.

message 18: by Judy, Moderator

Esther, any books you read or do read between July 1st, 2011 and June 30th, 2012 (that fit the challenge requirements) can be used. I'm not sure if you are thinking that 2nd month means February or that you have to do these challenges in order, but if so, that isn't the case. You can do these in any order as long as they are done during the specified time frame. When you get ready to post your results, go to the "Challenges: Year Long Reporting" folder, click on it, start a new thread and label it something like "Esther's Year Long Challenge". You can then copy and paste the challenge requirements to your first thread and list the books you've read for the requirements. If you need help or a more detailed explanation let us know, and someone will help you. :-)

(I'm not sure I understand your question about mysteries for April?)

message 88: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59981 comments I'm a little confused about the question about mysteries for April. Esher, are you thinking of the themed reads for April. There are 3 books from the mystery genre that were selected by the group to read in April. You don't need to list that you've completed them, but you are welcome to discuss them in this folder: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...
