Do you remember the first book that you absolutely could not put down? That you were so enamored with and so into that even Cheetos couldn't tear you away? That you recommended to all of your friends? Well here is where I would like you to share your experience with this text. I can't wait to read your stories . . . Mine follows.

My first taste of insatiable, habit-forming, bordering on obsession, mind blowing reading was . . . wait for it . . . Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. I was in 8th grade and I read it, and I felt it was absolutely scandalous and that I was really grown up for reading it. I tore through those pages quicker than you can say "She kissed her brother" and even tried to do a book report for reading class on it (I got the report back with a big red "this is not an appropriate book for school" written on it). I remember this book blazed a trail through my circle of friends and then it was pure nirvana when the sequel came out. We read every V.C. Andrews book as if it had the secret of life inside the pages, back then we were too stupid to realize they were all the same book.

Cici Hmm.. I'm pretty sure it was Sweet Valley High, my cousin and I were just so into these books. We owned all of them, now I have no idea where they are. If I read them now I'm sure I would laugh at them.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) Nancy Drew Mysteries -- Mystery of Mirror Bay. Up to this day, I love this book.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) The first books I remember reading by myself were The Bobbsy Twins books.

Jason Tan I think mine was either Oliver Twist or David Copperfield. I remember associating myself to Oliver Twist as a little child and very often imagined what life would be like for me if I was born so unfortunately as Oliver Twist.

☆Joycedale☆ the first book I actually remember was black beauty when i was 7, but I was an avid reader before that and that's why my mom got me a collection of classic books for christmas. I acutally still have that copy

Tasha Leflar | 1 comments My first cant put down was R.L. Stein Fear Street series and Christopher Pike novels. Others have been Harry Potter series, Twilight Saga, Vampire Diaries, and some "mom porn" series...lol! 50 shades, crossfire series and then Sinners series

Chris (bibliophile85) | 3 comments The first book I absolutely could not put down was actually a series....The Chronicles of Narnia which I first read I believe around the age of six or seven. Despite not being a Christian myself, and now well into my 20's, I still make a habit of reading "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" every Christmas. It conjures up that much nostalgia for me :)

Sam Phillips (spoook) The first books I read were the Hardy boys, but they were shyte and I hated them. I kept wishing evil on those boys. Who would have ever thought they would grow up to be wrestlers?

The series that got me hooked was Douglas Adams .... Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life the Universe and Everything, and So Long and Thanks for all the Fish.

I'm right there with you...the land of Narnia was the place I visited most frequently in my childhood readings. Couldn't even begin to say how many times I read them. Been years and years.

Michael (michaelnoe) | 3 comments Stephen King's The Shining. I was in the third grade.

Angie | 225 comments Mine were the magic far away tree and the lion the witch and the wardrobe. But I started reading my mum's James Herbert books when I was really young, and if my mum took them of me I'd just sneak into her room and get them back. But before I was 9 or so I'd read most things, I just loved to read. I stole flowers in the attic of my sister who was older than me and the same as with my mum's , just got it back. But the Amityville horror scared me so much, I thought my house was haunted and reading that made it worse.

Evans Light (evanslight) The Hitchhikers Guide books kept me reading through my middle teens. Read the first three of those almost as many times as Narnia!

megHan (raiyine) | 4 comments Mine was Lord of the Rings. I was 10. My dad had this really beautiful set on the top shelf that we weren't allowed to touch (or maybe I assumed that, I don't know) amd I would sneak down in the middle of the night and read it for an hour or two every night. I loved everything about it.

message 16: by Lee (new)

Lee (leeshirk) This is easy, I was in the third grade and I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I was hooked and have been reading ever since.

Anne Carlisle (acarlisle) | 2 comments Mine was Black Beauty, when I was about ten years old...got it from the public library.

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 24 comments I don't remember my first. I read so much as a kid. I do remember having chicken pox when I was 7, and my dad going to the library for me as a surprise. I had 25 books from him! Chicken pox or not, that was a really special memory!

message 19: by Bryon (new)

Bryon Decker (bryoncdecker) | 1 comments Herman Melville's Billy Budd was my first.

message 20: by Stacie (new)

Stacie | 1 comments Mine had to be, Are You There God? It's Me Margaret by Judy Blume. It was relatable to me and my friends at the time. We passed it round and round hoping our mother's wouldn't read it and take it away from us.

message 21: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (elaine1221) | 15 comments I loved EL Konigsberg and Judy Blume but the absolute first book I couldn't put down was Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. I read it in 7th grade and about 2000 times since.
