The Crusader: A Novel
Deus Lo Volt!
these two are pretty well-researched historical fictions rather than fast-paced airport fare. much like the eco.
jack whyte has a trilogy, the first of which is:
Knights of the Black and White
i think his writing tends to be more plot driven, but i have heard great things about his books. i don't know anything about this series of his, but his other one has gotten rave reviews from a couple of people i know.

The Good Men
I like books about the Knights Templar crusades, the Cathars in the region of Langedoc, France, and the legendary holy treasure that's supposed to have been brought from Jerusalem in the 12th century.
Writers like Steve Berry, Raymond Khoury, Michael Baigent, Kate Mosse and Dan Brown have written about this topic. A good story is important, but so is the character development.
Those who read the same books, please suggest them!
Thanks,
Linda
