Maybe (maybeawizard) In everyone's opinion what is the best character driven fantasy out there? I would probably have to say Song of Ice and Fire by Martin.

Maybe (maybeawizard) I love Locke as well he is a very well realized character and a real joy to read about.

Leighann | 159 comments I feel like anything by Robin Hobb is extremely well done. The characters are well fleshed out - they drive the story. They have periods of loss, joy, growth. I find myself doing the same thing wanting to skip over certain parts to follow a particular character in her Ship of Magic (Liveship Traders, #1) by Robin Hobb books. And yet the Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb books amazing as well. The first person telling gives you much more insight into the character.

Maybe (maybeawizard) I have to agree also that Hobb has a special way of bringing her characters to life that pales in comparison to most other authors.

Kevin Xu (kxu65) My favorite is R.A. Salvatore's Dark Elf books. If you read the Legend of Drizzt is all written as character driven plot, the whole legend is build around Drizzt, especially seen in the last few books.

Maybe (maybeawizard) No I love Hobb...I meant to say most authors pale in comparison to her. My kids where messing with me when I was writing that last post.

Maybe (maybeawizard) Ya I have given up thinking straight as well with my kids...they definitely make me sound like a crazy person sometimes(if not most of the time).

Well, since I dish my Hobb love all over the place I'll spare third or fourthing prior opinions ;)

I don't know that I would agree on GRRM. I love the series but there are so many Unlikeable characters POV's that I feel it takes away from the well written ones. Jennifer if you've read my review of The Lies of Locke Lamora, then you'll know that I agree with you wholeheartedly ;)

carol. | 2616 comments Peter Beagle. He can write an aging folk-music hippie and a teenage girl and sound equally authentic.

I don't have kids, but there's two dogs around and three parrots, so I sympathize with the distractions and sounding senile. :)

Great review!"

Yeah, Grant's review made me pick the book up again after getting kind of bored in the first few pages. And I'm so glad I did. (I loved Red Seas even more, but that might just be my thing about boats...)
