Bands that everybody likes...or at least doesn't dislike

"Auntie Grezelda" is cute, but I don't need to hear it again, I'm thinking. :)
Maybe you differ, but I don't think I've ever heard much anti-Elton John sentiment.
He lost me after "Captain Fantastic."

It's kind of hard to hate Elton John, especially after 3 decades of crap songs. But you can't argue with his early output, which is genius in my book.
Never cared for Journey. Bloated, loud arena rock. And I don't care for this sudden resurgence in the popularity of their music, especially after "Don't Stop Believing" was featured in the final episode of The Sopranos, and repeatedly on Glee.
Oddly enough, I find pre-Dark Side of the Moon Pink Floyd to be a far more fascinating band. I do love DSOTM, but I'm more partial to Echoes or even Atom Heart Mother. Funny how many so-called "fans" don't know shit about Syd Barrett and the band's phenomenal debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

OK so like I just smoked a lot of dope and I’m like reading all these posts and shit and like every song you mention is just like boom there it is in my head like put me in coach and cops beatin’ gypsies on the pavement and bruce juice and the dude is right, like turn off that eagles shit, wait, now someones at the door, just the ups guy, and so but like no one has even mentioned the chambers brothers and like my soul has been psychedelicized or like dylan, or opera man with all that like music and strange languages, like just roll down the windows and just pagliacci the whole neighborhood and did I mention I’m watching dora the explorer, and like I’m thinking, ya know how people say like if they could go back in time, they’d like change things and shit, like kill Hitler before he does all that evil shit, so I’m like thinking, what if some guy already went back in time and like stopped like really worse shit from happening, like some guy worse than Hitler, or like he stopped someone from killing some other president, or got like really mid-evil on someone worse than Hannibal, or was busy saving like the mall of america or something, and just couldn’t make it to 9/11, like it really makes you think

Your not alone. I hate Journey and Bon Jovi.
Everyone loves the Bee Gees !!
I don't like the Beatles, the Stones, or Luther Vandross. I'm not crazy about Motown. Agree with Phil: Signed, Sealed Delivered IS annoying. VERY annoying. Don't like Steve Wonder. HATE REGGAE.

Now this is a guy who can appreciate Floyd.

I don't mind the Eagles at all. Some of their songs are much worse than others, but I can certainly sit and listen to a percentage of the Eagles.
Not Rod Stewart, though. UGH.

So do I. At least the pre-1975 Eagles. Anything after Joe Walsh joined the band I can do without.

Anything in particular you don't like about Reggae? How about this song by Bob Marley, any good?
Phil, if by Floyd you mean Pink Floyd, I've never listened to them.
David Foster Wallace's phrase has been stuck in my head for months now, like a koan, and I thought that maybe if I wrote something and used it, without trying to sound like DFW, I could be free of it. But no luck.
And so but...

No one's mentioned Springsteen yet. Hmm.
I don't wanna share a cab with you, Sally. Nyeah! ;-p

That could be a whole other interesting discussion...why do you like some of the music you like? I agree, there are some things I enjoy for the sentimentality of it...like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I grew up listening to my grandparents singing them around the house. Happy times.

I think Farrah said she didn't like Bruce.
I don't give a shit what anyone says. Before Rod Stewart went Hollywood and heard the thundering hooves of a million-and-one blondes, his back catalog was really something, in particular his tenure with the Jeff Beck Group, the Faces, and a handful of those early solo albums.
Ever since, he's been a simpleton.

I love both of them, as well as The Rat Pack. I have a bunch of live recordings that are really good.
When I was in high school, aside from Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson and Chicago, everyone was listening to Chase and the summer I was 16 I don't think there was a day where I didn't listen to them.

I'm not crazy about Elton John ("Crocodile Rock" anyone?), but I like "Tiny Dancer".
I'm absolutely sick and tired of "Maggie May" but am willing to trust Clark that Stewart produced some decent music before that.
I love ZZ Top, The Bee Gees, and most blues.
I hate Journey, though. And just about everything that is in the arena rock category. Starship. Bon Jovi. Van Halen. Kiss. Lame lame lame lame!

Nothing wrong with them, they just fall under the category of "popular," and possibly "arena," which goes against everything I stand for (not really).

Maybe we'd be better off trying to find a single song that everyone would agree on rather than a band.

Oh, good idea, lets come up with 64 artists and have them face off in different regionals. We could run a poll or 4 everyday to allow voting.

Me either but I CAN'T fault him for grabbing all of that big Chevy commercial coin.
Cha-ching!

I love Muse. I don't know if they would be nearly as popular if it weren't for them touring with U2 and Stephanie Meyer's obsession.

Are you messing with me? Cause I'm serious.

Not messing with ya this time, I think we should do it. Not sure how to determine which artists will initially get in. Maybe anyone who wants to can send a list of their top 64 artists, and I could compile them so that the top 64 make the tourney, and we then send out polls to vote on matchups.
