Taylor I wanted more...IF that makes any sense. I wasn't satisfied with the ending. I feel like the entire series was built up to be "forced" into the ending we had...

message 252: by no one (new) - rated it 5 stars

no one Definitely.....she was rushing.. I wouldn't have minded another 75-100 pages

message 253: by Joseph (new) - rated it 5 stars

Joseph This book was great! Loved it! I think it was just as good as the other books in this series.

message 254: by Addee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Addee It wasn't rushed. It was brilliant and perfect! By far my favourite book in the series.

message 255: by Steffany (last edited May 06, 2013 02:35PM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Steffany At the very end it seen to be telling you what happen than feeling it, I didn't really care about who she choses between Peeta or Gale both are fine but it was like the author wanted to just end the book.

message 256: by Dani (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dani disappointing to a degree because of just having read catching fire and how engrossing and captivating it was, mockingjay didnt quite live up to that. and also the ending was quite disappointing. i wished I knew more about what happened to gale, what happened to peeta exactly when the parachutes fell and panem ofcouse, how paylot handled it. the ending for me, was in a way a cliff hanger. and disappointing.

message 257: by John (new)

John Sirett What a disappointing ending to the Hunger Games trilogy. Suzanne Collins completely blew it. She either ran out of ideas, rushed the ending or was on the same medication as Katniss when she wrote it!

message 258: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved the whole series but Mockingjay was my least favourite as well. After I'd finished it I indeed felt like it was too hastily written - as if Suzanne's deadline would be in three days and she wasn't quite done writing. I'm curious what the film version will be like.

message 259: by Anna (new) - rated it 2 stars

Anna The last book was the most disappointing, although the second was only average.

Problems with the third included:

Prim dying... she was the only decent character and she was the reason for Katniss offering herself as a tribute. Killing her off in such a flippant way just annoyed me.

The events surrounding Prim's death were probably the most half hearted thing in the world. It's like she wanted to write about this war but didn't know how to end it so she just blew the kids up and moved time on.

Katniss and Peeta's children. Or rather, the description of them. Talk about cliché! One with his eyes and her hair and one with her eyes and his hair. It made me want to be sick. This was unnecessary and, in my opinion, lazy.

She gave Katniss kids despite Katniss saying she never wanted to have children. Katniss had excellent reasons for never wanting children and yet she had to have them. I felt that Collins gave her children because Katniss is a woman and women are expected to have children. Why?

I definitely found it disappointing.

Ron Parodi This book features about 75 pages of plot, and 200+ pages of Katniss wallowing in self-pity, passing out, and waking up depressed. More than the previous two books, this is a character study of somebody who's been broken by authority.

The trouble with this approach is that by volume three of a series the book should be more plot-driven. Imagine if Return of the Jedi was all about Luke feeling sorry for himself for losing his hand, and finished with him killing Yoda because he was so mad.

If they make a movie out of this one, I bet they change the story considerably.

message 261: by Kent (new) - rated it 2 stars

Kent yes, I didn't finish it!

message 262: by John (new) - rated it 2 stars

John Miiller i liked the 2nd book mocking jay sucked

message 263: by Taylor (new) - rated it 4 stars

Taylor Sipos I could see rushed. I just hated that they kinda left Gale all by himself usually when there's a love triangle the author will let the readers know that he's all good you know he's off with some other girl having babies with this one it was like OHHH Katness all the sudden has feelings for Peeta not Gale and He's HOPEFULLY dancing with some other girl I find that to be crap. Also WHY DID PRUE HAVE TO DIE????!?!?!? This all started with Katness protecting her and now bye bye don't need you anymore. UGH needed to get that off my chest

message 264: by Betty (new) - rated it 2 stars

Betty Cross Dani wrote: "and panem ofcouse, how paylot handled it. "

I agree. Paylor should have been written up more. I also wanted to know how Panem evolved after the death of Coin. Did it become the "republic" which was Coin's alleged objective (though not the real one), or did Paylor become a sort of benign dictator, giving orders and telling other people what to do but ordering good things?

I suppose things got better, because eventually Katniss had two children with Peeta, but the reason she gives is because Peeta wanted it. Maybe Peeta wanted it because things were getting better and they could give their children a better future, but we aren't shown that.

I couldn't have said it better!

message 266: by Sarah (new) - rated it 2 stars

Sarah Welton-Lair Mockingjay was definitely disappointing. It was really depressing and the ending was so unfulfilling. And I was bored most of the time.

Kristina So disappointing it ruined the entire series for me.

Brittney The thing that disappointed me was that you only get to see Katniss married with kids in one page with no mention of Gale. The death of Prim was so sad as well, but the book was still amazing.

Abigail Gallaher It ended SO happily, but I ended up crying and I have no idea why. I was so depressed! I'm like, " Why am I so sad and dissapointed! Why do I keep crying!" I didnt know if it was because it ended or it was my favorite books or because they crowded it all up in the end. I was kept up all night crying and thinking about it.... Her books are amazing though.
My favorite part: ROMANCE!!!! I always loved Peeta, but I wasnt sure he was gonna be "the one".
Oh, yeah, Suzanne Collins didnt rush.
She did a good job but she shouldnt have shoved it all at the end.
My MOST likely reason for ME is that because it ended and that since Katniss, Gale
, and Peeta lived, there could be more books. Its just sad.

May the Odds be EVER in your Favor!

Fire burns brighter in the darkness.

Abigail Gallaher I ALWAYS LOVED KATNISS! I BOUGHT COMBAT BOOTS BECAUSE OF HER!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 271: by SHINY (last edited Jan 06, 2014 06:16PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

SHINY I didn't like the book at all.... I was very disappointed.

Abigail Gallaher Okay, they made it sad when Rue died, but Mockingjay shouldnt have ended happily, I mean, Im glad it did but it was not that sad. When Prim died they shouldce made it sadder then when Rue died. PS- I cried my eyes out when Rue died and when I finished the series. Im like,

ITS OVER!!!! I RUSHED READING IT!!!!! I SHOULDVE NEVER STARTED THIS SERIES!!!!!!! THERES NOTHING TO DO ANYMORE!!!!!!!! ITS OVER!!!!!! THERES NOTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO!!!!!! WHY AM I CRYING!!!!!???????!!!!!! IT ENDED HAPPILY!!!!!!!! STOP CRYING!!!!!!!! ITS OVER!!!!!!!!!!! (Sob, for like 6 hours)

message 273: by Abigail (last edited Jan 18, 2014 07:43PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abigail Gallaher Okay, I need to express my feelings:

When I read about Peetas blood on the tiles, I felt like I was done. When I was finished with the book, I wanted more. I was crying in a happy way, yet a sad way. I knew everything was over, and there was nothing else coming, so I just sat there for hours, thinking about it. I wouldnt put the book down. I wouldnt take my eyes off the last page. That night I kept on crying, and crying, and crying, and I thought, "its over."

I have my own motto about the book:

Last chapter.
Last page.
Last paragraph.
Last sentence.
Last word.

It makes me feel better, and when I need to cry, I play it in my mind.

Abigail Gallaher Veronica wrote: "Madeline wrote: "noooooooooooo! PEETA!!!!"

Actually they are both kind of awesome, but I have to say I never really liked Katniss...I don't really know why! :P Looooooved the books though!"

how dare you!
If u dont like Katniss, then you should just forget about the hunger games. Idiot

Betty Cross DevilWearsPrimark wrote: "She quickly wrote the end of the story to pacify the people that were calling for more of the hunger games..."
I think she contracted for a trilogy at the beginning. The first book ends not with The End but with End of Book One.

message 276: by Abigail (last edited Mar 29, 2014 02:57PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abigail Gallaher It was not rushed, and it was great. The whole blood on the tiles thing freaked me out, I felt like throwing the book across the room, but I didnt. I just said, im done. I went in my room and cried my eyes out. There should be more books, since they all lived. But, it starts with it ends with, and Prim died, so there couldnt be more. Thats what got her there in the first place, but they shouldve made it more sad, like Rues death. I cried in the book, and in the movie. And when they are in District 11 in Catching Fire. I always cry! Its so sad. I love the Hunger Games. The day I finished the series ( January 5, 2014 5:06) was the best day in my life! I cried, and cried, and cried. Not because I didnt like it, because it was fantastic, lovely, and I was relieved that Katniss didnt die.

Thank you Suzane Collins for these lovely books!

Charity I have to agree, although I loved the series I to felt that the ending was a little rushed. I felt as if something was missing. The books where very detailed and then the last chapter was one event after another and I almost felt lost for a moment. Usually after reading a series I feel fulfilled, but at the end of mocking jay I was confused. I am glad that it ended on a pleasant note, but I feel as if she could have come up with more of a explanation for what happened and how Katniss and Peetas new connection started and continued with marriage and children after all that had happened with him being totally against her!!!???

Mizuki Lindsey wrote: "I get the feeling that Suzanne Collins just lost interest, or tried to be "realistic," or wanted to please everyone, or shock everyone, or something. I don't even know.

My thought exactly, thank you Lindsay.

But the great thing about Katniss was the intensity of her love for her family and her guts and "I can pull through anything" and it ended with her jaded, bitter, and completely disregarding the safety of others in her thirst for empty vengeance. Great message! Ugh. "

Yes, she really is outrageous when she risks her teammates' lives to try assassinate Snow! She basically leads the team into one death trap after another! And for what? So she can take down Snow!?? So Collins could put Katniss right in front of Snow's mansion to watch Prim being killed, just in time? This whole assassination business must be one of the worse plot devices ever!

K.N. Timofeev Jeff wrote: "I think that those with military experience, particularly those who have deployed, can probably better relate with Katniss in this third book. She is essentially going through her THIRD Hunger Gam..."

You are completely right. I liked the third book personally. I felt that Katniss was just so tired of fighting that she just checked out. If you've been through a lot of stress that does happen. I'm just glad she got her s*** together (somewhat) by the end because Coin would have been worse than Snow.

message 280: by Kaya (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kaya I simply expected more. First half is good but too lingering, without an actual plot and a bit too much depressing. Also, the way Finnick died, that was outragious. He deserved a better death. And the way she made Katniss "blame" Gale for Prim's death, that was just bullshit. The last chapter should've been split in like two or three, everything was rushed and a lot of questions weren't answered.

message 281: by Stephy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Stephy D Yes it was rushed I think. She was going too fast and decided to kill off all characters she didn't need. :(

message 283: by Clarissa (new)

Clarissa Nicole i'm a little disappointed with the last book. katniss is so lack of enthusiasm and it's like she is depressed all the time. and so many died especially finnick and primrose:(

message 284: by Stevie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Stevie Mm-hm. When Finnick died I wanted to cry.

message 285: by Terry (new) - rated it 4 stars

Terry Sustarsic It's been a month since I finished reading the series and i'm still hungry for more! I guess I wouldn't be this crazed and hungry had the author feed more details in the third book. It's just that The Hunger Games and Catching fire were like a fantasy world, my sweet escape. but the third book just crushed me. I felt Katniss' depression. I felt so down and disappointed after reading Mockingjay. I realized I wasn't reading a fantasy book...It's war people.

message 286: by Stevie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Stevie Yeah....

message 287: by Stevie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Stevie Slightly

Dawnnicolebw I think it was an okay book, but it was a little hard for me to get into at first. Some parts of it did not make sense, but I actually watched the movies first before I read the books so I could get an understanding. I think when the movie comes out I will try to read it again.

message 289: by Stevie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Stevie Yeah me too.

message 290: by Terry (new) - rated it 4 stars

Terry Sustarsic The series is by far the most exciting and melancholic book I read so far. I just wish they make a good and satisfying movie out of Mockingjay you know fix what needs to be fixed, add what we crave to know and see. Like how Finnick and Prim died just like that then add a little more on Peeta and Katniss' you know. It doesn't need to be perfect. I just want a closure...don't we all? I want to move on and read another book but I'm stuck!

Blueish I agree. Mockingjay was a HUGE disappointment. Just after the epic conclusion of Catching Fire, the rebellion has truly begun in earnest. And our herione has no idea what is going on. It seemed promising at the beginning, Katniss being depressed and, well, constantly high on morphine. I would have been fine with that, if only she had GROWN over the course of the book as a character. Even as she views the death and destruction around her, she still can't see beyond her own emotions and ends up being a selfish and shallow character the whole entire book who you end up hating because she's being a selfish, shallow child. And while I never really felt the spark between her and Peeta, I felt cheated by the epilouge. They got married and had kids, THAT'S IT! AFTER ALL THE THINGS THEY WENT THROUGH THEY DON'T EVEN CARE IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT ABOUT THE OUTSIDE WORLD AND SETTLE DOWN TO HAVE KIDS?! That was a sloppy ending which only exemplified how little their characters actually knew or cared about. Which would have been fine, if the story wasn't told from their point of view. It disassociates the reader with the story and the rebellion, instead focusing on Katnis' petty debate of Gale or Peeta. Seriously, the world is going to hell and THAT is your main concern. People are dying in YOUR name and you're willing to ignore all that and demand that Coin go get your boyfriend. And Katnis had so much potential as a character to develop into an actual player in the games. To become more than a pawn. Another disappointment was the lack of Haymitch. Where was the wise-cracking, sarcastic, know-it-all when Katnis needed to have some water doused on her head to wake her from her dream of being independent of the games and getting Peeta back. To shove the fact that her childish whims were causing people's lives in her face. Just, ugh. I went on a bit of a rant, but tl;dr Katnis didn't live up to her potential as a character.

message 292: by Betty (new) - rated it 2 stars

Betty Cross I agree with Blueish.

message 293: by Nuran (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nuran The last 10% felt rushed. I didn't even have time to mourn Prim's death, before it was already on to the next thing, then the next thing. Rue's death seemed to have more page time than hers.

message 294: by Cindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cindy I don't think this book was disappointing, but different from the others. What I liked about it is how realistic it is. Indeed, the dark atmoshpere in this book describes the mood during war time. I also think that the ending is perfect, Katniss never wanted to be part of the revolution. She was just a kid who was forced to see terrible things. No wonder she is broken in the end, any normal person would...

I don´t like the ending like..."Let's be psychos together"
But i hate when Gale left just like that

message 296: by Anna (new) - rated it 5 stars

Anna I think it ended well. It was the end of a rebellion. People had died. It was going to be depressing. If everyone had been happy and laughing at the end, it would have felt unrealistic. It progressed like life; life just went on with what they had left. I liked that. Was it sad? Of course, but I expected that. A war had just ended.

Michelle (Witchy Books) I think it was a little rushed but not disappointing.

message 298: by Raul (new) - rated it 4 stars

Raul Ortiz it was the worst book of the series, the ending was disappointing and it had the least amount of action in all three books

message 299: by Richa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Richa Goenka Yes,it was a little rushed but not disappointing as it was to be expected at the end of a war.I liked the ending lines "but there are worse games to play".

message 300: by Teague (new) - rated it 1 star

Teague Worst ending since lost. From the time the children blew up to the point where she has her non-confrontation with Snow, I thought Katness was in some kind of jabberwasp (?) torture-induced dream sequence and that she was going to wake up so that we could get on with resolving the character arcs and plot lines in which Collins has us so thoroughly invested. What a waste
