Re-reading Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas to prepare for the release of the next book at the end of this month. I really enjoyed this book and I hope book two lives up to my expectations!

So I got my hands on an advanced copy of Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2) by Sarah J. Maas and it was awesome! I recommend reading Throne of Glass again (or for the first time) before picking this up. If you like Tamora Pierce or Kristin Cashore or are just looking for a new fantasy book with a strong heroine and a great plot, this one is for you!

message 203: by Peaches (new)

Peaches (princesspeaches) | 94 comments I need to read Throne

message 204: by Erik (new)

Erik | 97 comments Started Faith Hunter's Rouge Mage series. 86 pages in and it's pretty good. Too bad I already had NC for the scavenger hunt.

Fifth Grave Past the Light (Charley Davidson, #5) by Darynda Jones is hilarious! Another great addition to this series. It was fun, action packed but also had serious scenes that made you feel all emotional. Thankfully, Charlie added her spunky quips through most of those scenes so you could get through it.

Peaches (princesspeaches) | 94 comments I'm reading the Lux series by Jennifer Armentrout.Shadows

Erik | 97 comments Going to start Sophie Kinsella's newest. Kind of dreading it because her books are so hit or miss, depending on how much of an idiot the protagonist is.

I read all of Seanan McGuires October Day series last week. At first, I was kind of iffy on them but I really got into them after the first one. I think that a lot of paranormal series have a weak first book mainly because they authors are trying to build a whole new world. The authors have to spend a lot of time describing the ins and outs in the first book but later you just hang on for the ride.

I attended Dragon*Con last weekend and it was fantastic to see all the famous nerds! I've just started listening to Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher where James Marsters is reading about Harry Dresden being at a convention. Last weekend I saw James Marsters, Jim Butcher and a guy dressed as Harry Dresden. Nerd mind blown!

message 210: by Erik (new)

Erik | 97 comments Jim Butcher signed my copy of Proven Guilty at Dragon*Con. And since Monday was my birthday, he added "Happy Birthday" to it.

Meanwhile, I'm on the 5th Jane Yellowrock book. They're pretty good, but I'm coming to the conclusion Faith Hunter is better at coming up with cool worlds to write about then she is at doing stories in them.

Thought some of you may be interested in the following message from the Romance Writers of America that we received:
My name is Jen FitzGerald and I am a member of North Texas RWA, a chapter of Romance Writers of America. I am coordinating one of our chapter's two contests. This contest needs judges who are readers only and not associated in any way with the publishing industry. We are in need of approximately 350 judges.

We have a website and a contest specific page so that you and any interested group members can verify the contest and find more information about the contest itself, including time lines, expectations, and the different categories of books that will be entering the contest.

Debbie | 62 comments Just finished Fifth Grave Past the Light by Darynda Jones. Read it in one night. Couldn't put it down. It was hilarious! I was laughing out loud so much my husband wanted to know what I was reading. I would read it to him and sometimes he would get it and other times he would just give me a look. He sooo doesn't know Charley's sense of humor. Also, I would really like to have the GPS that she has. Trips would be so much fun.

I love Darynda Jones! That book made me laugh and cry..at the same time which was a little uncomfortable ;)
I love the GPS scenes! Apparently, some GPS's allow you to download alternative voices. My friend told me she had downloaded one of the guys from Family Guy. My problem with these is I would be too busy giggling and miss all of my turns.

I am currently reading Michelle Sagara's latest Cast in Sorrow (Chronicles of Elantra #9) by Michelle Sagara . I love this series! I went to books a million to buy it and they had it in the romance section. Which is odd bc while there is kind of a love theme in the series, it is no where near the main theme of the book. I mean, the main character hasn't had relations in any of the books so why are you putting it in the romance? Because there is a woman on the cover and she is in a dress and looks soft?

Rereading Hunt the Moon (Cassandra Palmer, #5) by Karen Chance by Karen Chance so I can read her latest book Tempt the Stars (Cassandra Palmer, #6) by Karen Chance . I love reading series but sometimes its hard to remember whats happening, especially when an author has two series in the same world.

Debbie | 62 comments Just finished reading A Cursed Embrace (A Weird Girls Novel). This is the second in the series. I liked how it was filled with action throughout the book. Read it in 2 days. Can't wait for the next installment of the Wird sisters. I'm about to start a Karen Chance book called Touch the Dark. This will be my first book of hers. Hope she is as good as my favorite authors.

The first one by Chance does start off a little slow but it does get better. I love both of her series (Especially Dorina)

Debbie | 62 comments Just finished reading the first book in the Order of the Blade series by Stephanie Rowe called Darkness Awakened. It reminded me so much of the Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward(which I loved). It was very good. The sad part is the library doesn't have these books so I'll have to have them Kindled if I want to continue with this series.

Have you voted yet for the Goodreads best books of the year? Did anyone else feel like they were cheating on their authors for voting for one over the other?

message 223: by Jessica (new)

I have book marks galore! Jennifer Estep and Nalini Singh generously donated book marks. Let me know if you want some bookmarks!

message 224: by Debbie (new)

Debbie | 62 comments Thanks Jessica. I did vote and felt like I was cheating on some authors. I just went with the book I liked best this time, not the author.

A Cursed Embrace (Weird Girls, #2) by Cecy Robson Just finished this book. I enjoy this series due to the random cussing and oddities that come out of the sisters mouths. There is a hot alpha but I have issues with that relationship. I'm using pro-shifter but in this case I hope she gets with the vampire in the next book.

Molly Harper did not displease in her latest book How To Run With A Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #3) by Molly Harper . You can expect the same level of hilariousness that come from her books. There is also a serious issue in the book, a nice change of pace for Molly Harper. The main character is on the run from an abusive ex and she is afraid to trust the handsome wolf who has fallen into her lap.

Debbie | 62 comments I'm reading Lori Handeland's Phoenix Chronicles series. I'm on the 3rd book of this series Apocalypse Happens (Phoenix Chronicles, #3) by Lori Handeland . The main character in this series is Elizabeth (Liz) who started out as a psychic and becomes more through the series. I'm really enjoying these books. I've also read The Nightcreature series which was good also by this author.

JoAnne Are the wolves in any other book than the first two? I am reading the third and Elena and Jeremy's names are just mentioned so far.

message 233: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (chey1) | 652 comments Mod
They come in different parts of the series. Some books focus on the witches but Elena and Clay still come out to play throughout :)

message 234: by Erik (new)

Erik | 97 comments Broken and Frostbitten focus on the wolves; so do a bunch (up to half maybe) of the short stories. Elena also gets a chapter in Thirteen.

Finished reading Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop. Loved it. It is book two in the Novel of Others series. This book does not focus just on Meg and her reaction to this crazy new world. This book deals with the tension between the Others and the Humans. I really enjoyed it. Bishop has brought a fresh perspective in building a paranormal world.

I like the Walker Papers series. Its is completely different than anything else out there. However, if you are a person who has to have the romance start in the first book you may hate it.

Debbie | 62 comments I'm about to start the 3rd book in Lexi George's Demon Hunting series. Demon Hunting in Dixie (Demon Hunting, #1) by Lexi George Demon Hunting in the Deep South (Demon Hunting, #2) by Lexi George Demon Hunting in a Dive Bar (Demon Hunting, #3) by Lexi George
I've never read one of her book and didn't know what to expect. I must say that the first two were very good and funny. I love the southern talking in these books.
In the first book, there is drama going on (it's what's inside the pocketbook and the ladies fighting) that I was laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my face. Lexi George wrote these books with a lot of humor and romance in them. Can't wait to start book 3.

So I just read a series by Scarlett Dawn and I liked it. Its about a group of young Mysticals who are trying to prepare to rule their different people while dealing with things such as school and pesky humans trying to kill them. Its an entertaining series but they are not afraid to kill people or make drastic changes to the characters. The second book had a huge, dramatic ending that left you going "Wait, what just happened? What did you do?"

So I read The Assassin's Blade (Throne of Glass, #0.1-0.5) by Sarah J. Maas Assassin's Blade by Sarah Maas. It is a short story collection based on her Assassin's series which I adore! The collection is great...except most of the stories involve a character that you already know is dead. So she makes you love a character that you know will die shortly. Rude!

So I read Nalini Singh's latest in the Psy-Changeling series Shield of Winter (Psy-Changeling, #13) by Nalini Singh and it was a good addition to the series. It was not my favorite but that could probably be because I want to read more on the changelings. I do like how Nalini Singh brings past characters into the current story line.
