But if I may add to the topic, I too had a Bill Cosby album (cassette actually) as my first and only comedy incursion. It had such classic bits as the Old Weird Harold and Fat Albert, Buk Buk, Noah, road signs, etc. But the thing that I recall the most, is the clinking and rattling of the dinnerware and glassware that was captured in the recording. It was this that gave it a kind of intimacy that I don't think can be replicated.
I also owned Weird Al's first album and a Dr. Demento compilation, but I wouldn't categorize those as being comedy albums, per se.

Sometimes he starts taking the podcast seriously. It's cute.
Next week I'm going to talk about each player on my three fantasy teams, and what I think about them.

Shortest. Episode. Ever.

Ha, there is a place in Kenosha that will be featuring Midget wrestling. According to the wooden, sandwich board placed curbside at the roadside diner; "Midget Wrestling is Back!"
Yup, so we got that going for us.

Yep, every day was like that when I was in retail. It's a miracle we ever got any work done with all the singing and dancing we did.

Though my favorite comment, "Torgo lives!"

Ummm...the audio is the clip, brother. Do this for ME.

I don't know. I even looked at the website for the store (it's in AK and called "Once in a Blue Moose"...I'm crappin' you negative.)
The song's been stuck in my head for days. THAT hurts.

I would have appreciated having to watch a training video that was A) that short, and B) that hilarious.

Thankfully, I never had a job that involved training videos. I started off working in HS working at a store my parents owned. If they still owned them, I'd make training videos for them much like this..."with oh so much delight!"

I'm surprised I never convinced my parents to let me make one. Back then, I only made zombie movies on camcorders my mom borrowed from her school district's ESD.
I would love to buy a crapcorder and use one of my terrible Casios and try to make a training video that looks and feels like it's 25 years old.

Why aren't any of these posted for our amusement? I know I would watch intently.
Not sayin'. Just sayin'.

Sam wrote: "So Matt...what would it take to post the old zombie flix...I believe you have access to the technology...it would be pretty rad...also, I work at the same esd u borrowed the cameras from...crazy!"
I've digitized all those movies. I might post some soon.

Neat. I'll just apologize now for never, ever setting foot there.

If our podcast episodes were parts of a human body, this one would be the tumor that has teeth and hair in it. We went all over the place, were foul-mouthed, and wild like a group of dock-wallopers. If we hadn't offended you yet, it will probably happen this episode.
Warning: Excessive drinking, swearing, and an inability to remain on one topic for more than 16 consecutive seconds marks this episode of the Bookhouse Boys in which we discuss whether to give wine to toddlers, just how bad the Redskins are, the price of success, eyeball injuries, shitting in the dark, and the other important issues of our times. Oh, and some stuff about books.

Hey, if you and Jen are lucky enough, Dave, perhaps the new addition will be born on the 19th. That's Nora's, our daughter's, birthday.
Great company!
The expletives were really flying, but I found the esoteric topics and riffing to be quite refreshing. I mean, you guys need to keep the subject matter and discussion light enough every now and again to keep it interesting for yourselves, yes?
By the way, I loved it. Thanks, guys!
Thanks, Robert. I had a blast riffing with the guys this week. It recharged my batteries. Plus, I always wondered if Jason was pro or anti on the whole moving-yr-bowels-in-the-woods issue.

I feel like I need to defend Fulci a little, though. While he is no great auteur, he is one of the prime examples of the honest and gleeful self-indulgence of 1970s and '80s European horror, stripped of the pretentiousness of certain contemporaries, which, to me at least, can be wonderfully entertaining if consumed under the right circumstances. And speaking of the Argento comparison, I would take Fulci's City of the Living Dead or The Beyond over Argento's Phantom of the Opera or Trauma any day.
Thanks for the comments, guys.
We went into nothing in very much depth, and most of our proclamations should be taken with a grain of salt. I don't really "hate" Fulci. I was expecting something more scary, more believably gory, and possibly better acted than what I got, which was pure, bloody cheese. Very much has its place, and there are a lot of moods in which I would also welcome his stuff more than that of his more serious contemporaries.
I like my robot voice. Very dignified. Would it be too much trouble to digitally alter everything I say into that voice, Matt?

I do appreciate the weird bleakness that Fulci films have. I like Argento's "3 Witches" trilogy and that's about it for Italian horror...Okay, I do love Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror because it's so sleazy and "Peter Bark"'s BIZARRE performance (btw, you can watch the whole film on YouTube now!).

It took me a long time to make an avatar of me, in shadow, peeking over an open book that looked just like the one they have for people without avatars. Obviously all my hard work isn't appreciate by some people.

I have met 2 authors in the last week that would be interested in talking to us on the show. We should talk about talking about whether we should have interview episodes.
I say: sure, why not? I dunno about straight interviews, but if a published author wants to join us for a mini and join the conversation about what they've been reading lately, we can spend 5 or 10 minutes letting 'em pimp their book.

I can get behind that, but I would object to full interviews. Interview podcasts are usually boring to me, for one thing, and I wouldn't want to help bore other people (any more than I already do.)
The other part is...we started this podcast, and the book club that preceded it, expressly to read and discuss classics, something Matt has fought for more passionately than anyone. No offense to any authors Matt has spoken to, but dedicating our reading time and shows to brand new works written by relative unknowns would make this a very different show indeed. On the other hand, I'd love to hear about these new books, and chat with their authors about the books they've read, classic and otherwise.

I'd have wished Jim Nelson a happy birthday, but he never comes here anymore to see it.
