I was watching the Cardinals lose to the Giants. BOOOOOO"
Blame me. I had voodoo dolls of Metheny, Lohse, and Molina that I was constantly farting upon during our conversation.
That's right. I went there.

Based on the way Game 1 of the World Series is going, I can't even blame the Cardinals, at least for the most part. The Giants are just unstoppable right now. They just rattled off a stat that the Giants have outscored their opponents 22-1 since their last loss. Nuts.

Probably that moment went my throat went dry and I had trouble speaking.
So, yes. I plooged the Red Birds.

But in regards to timeless tropes and themes in literature, aka Phantom of the Opera, how about this for a more modern retelling, albeit in a cinematic format.

I'll see that and raise you one Spanish-dubbed Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gilnOj...

Oof, I fold.
With previews such as that, I say let the genre die.

I swear, if the three of you chose an alias, you could whip up (maybe churn is more apropos) a series of these *cough* books *cough* for a quick stab at some loot.
I choose Oliver Onions for your pen name. Oh wait. . .

Welp, the squirt finally done got herself born at 4:30 this afternoon. We've been at the hospital since 8:15 yesterday morning. Both excited and tired. Baby Margot is healthy and ready to read!

Congratulations, Dave and Jen!!! And welcome, Margot!

I've got a suggestion for a book that I think would be fun...It's called "Behold a Pale Horse." The Book is by William Cooper and is the holy grail of conspiracy books. I've thumbed through it a few times and it's pretty awesome...plus, its a genre that I think is new to the Bookhouse Boys reading list. What do you think?

McNulty is sad.
Awesome news, guys. I'm glad the long, dark night is finally over and you can settle into being awesome parents. Here's a helpful priority list for you in the coming months:
1 - Bookhouse Boys
2 - Margot
3 - each other
4 - work

Glad to hear everyone is doing well, Dave. Give Jen & Margot our love. Pictures when you get a chance, please. Get some rest.

Sam,
I am willing to give any genre of writing a shot (I am the one who lobbied for Jim Thompson and Halloween eps!). I think it would be fun to do this, but, as always, we're like The Beatles: all in or all out.
I like, also, that it's available as an audiobook here: http://archive.org/details/WilliamCoo...

I don't know, Sam...I'm pretty open minded about content, I think, but this is a non fiction book, and one written by the "foremost authority on UFOs." There wouldn't be much room for literary discussion there, I wouldn't think. It probably would be more a conversation about whether we believe this theory or that theory, which would make a pretty fun side topic, but not for our main book. It's also 500 pages long, which is pushing it for us. We try to stick to around 350 pages max. We made an exception for Sometimes a Great Notion, but that's frankly in a different class than this (or most) books.
If there are any fiction books of roughly that length, like a thriller or historical novel or something, that interweaves conspiracy theories into its plot, I'd be all for that, provided it's better written than Dan Brown's stuff.
I wonder what that audio file covers. No way a recording of 500 pages is barely over two hours long.

UPDATE: My new blog within a message board: Attack of the douchebag reviewer!
Ep. 2: Moron vs. The Road
I love dystopian books and this is truly the only on that I hated!!
It was boring and didn't do what dystopian literature is meant to. Even when something "exciting" happened, the writing style made it seem dull.
And why does McCarthy never even tell you what happened to the world? Reading this book is pointless as there is little or no development of characters or any even remotely big event. (view spoiler)
Is the movie any better?
Yes, the movie's waaaaay better. The Dad gets this jetpack and they play "All-Star" by Smashmouth as he grabs his son and flies up into the sky. There's a rainbow on the horizon and verdant plant-life overtaking the gray. Make sure to watch for the outtakes; they're HILARIOUS. Adding Seann William Scott as the funny cousin was a big relief, too.

Of the four biographies, Basquiat may have been the least scholarly, written from a slightly more journalistic approach. It comes off as a bit more unseemly in its perspective and was not "recognized" as an official biography. However, it is a relatively quick read and does have historical merit.

I've watched someone play that before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CWivW... He plays a lot of excruciating old 8 bit games.

Probably not. Kansas State won today.

Speaking of college ball, I had a great time watching the shootout between UVA and Miami today (which Virginia won 41-40). I usually like a li'l defense in my football, but with college ball I usually find the passing offense so dreadful that it became refreshing to see 500 total yards of offense in the first quarter.
It was also refreshing to see how many fewer rules there were in the college game. Don't get me wrong, the game was officiated terribly, but Jesus, they let 'em play. I saw a bunch of holds, blocks in the back, and face mask penalties that didn't get called that would have decided the outcome of modern NFL games. I swear, the NFL's about getting unwatchable from all the penalties anymore.
Watching the game today also confirmed my suspicion that the Shanahans are college coaches. That's where they belong. There's no room for all that goofy trick shit and options against NFL defenses. That's why they're at .300 since they took over the Skins two and a half seasons ago.

That changes a "good" time to a "great" time.
Big agreement about the epidemic of unnecessary flags in NFL games, too. Let the teams play, and try not to blow the important calls, whaddaya say?

Yeah, they were merciless on themselves. Masochists.
Congrats to the Oregon Ducks -- BCS rankings be damned.
(Confession time: I was afraid the Ducks would lose last night, and then I'd be eternally hated for jinxing 'em. But the Ducks saved me from that fate.)

When Jason posted this episode, I played a bit on my iPad. Athena was sitting next to me on the couch. I accidentally jumped up to the "F^%$ing NERDS! F^#$ them!" et al bit. Athena was delighted and asked to hear the "nerd" part over and over again, but I declined. You have a fan, Dave. :/

Yeah, 4 to 6 years old is about my demographic.
If it makes you feel any better, I don't curb my swearing around Margot, either.

Am I mistaken, or does Dave not much care for nerds?
Matt has next week's rant: How did Ryan Gosling lose Sexiest Man Alive again?!?
Don't get me started on that horsesh*t! That Tatum kid looks like he's infected by the T-virus and halfway to becoming Nemesis. Aaaaaarrrrrggghhhhh!!!! I want Gos' boot talk to his head in an elevator for this injustice.

I can't offer any opinion on the subject of this paragraph because, holy shit, Matt is referencing Resident Evil.
I saw a trailer for a movie with Ryan Gosling in it, and until they got to the end and named the actors, I thought he was Casey Affleck.

Dave, I favorited this tweet expressly so I could share it with you later. I think it sums up your anti-nerd stance pretty well:
"There's no Nerd Lifestyle. Everybody plays videogames, everybody knows who Batman is. If you think you're a Real Nerd, you're just an ass."

Never mind the swearing, the hardest part is going to be explaining that her dad is one of those horrible nerds. (exhibit A: see above post referencing Resident Evil)

Yeah, exactly. For me, nerd ain't what you like, it's how you like it, i.e. to the exclusion of all else and of common sense. There are as many sports nerds and politics nerds as Star Wars nerds. Liking comics doesn't make you a nerd, but insisting that every character in comics has to meet Batman does. It's about obsessing.
Kinda like you've been doing about my comment about nerds. :P

I *may* be gently helping you explain what you mean so as to hopefully not alienate one third of our very small audience, and quite nerdy, audience. ;)
Or at least we have traditionally nerdy pursuits. I get the distinction you're making, and agree with it.
