Based on the way Game 1 of the World Series is going, I can't even blame the Cardinals, at least for the most part. The Giants are just unstoppable right now. They just rattled off a stat that the Giants have outscored their opponents 22-1 since their last loss. Nuts.

I've got a suggestion for a book that I think would be fun...It's called "Behold a Pale Horse." The Book is by William Cooper and is the holy grail of conspiracy books. I've thumbed through it a few times and it's pretty awesome...plus, its a genre that I think is new to the Bookhouse Boys reading list. What do you think?

I am willing to give any genre of writing a shot (I am the one who lobbied for Jim Thompson and Halloween eps!). I think it would be fun to do this, but, as always, we're like The Beatles: all in or all out.

I don't know, Sam...I'm pretty open minded about content, I think, but this is a non fiction book, and one written by the "foremost authority on UFOs." There wouldn't be much room for literary discussion there, I wouldn't think. It probably would be more a conversation about whether we believe this theory or that theory, which would make a pretty fun side topic, but not for our main book. It's also 500 pages long, which is pushing it for us. We try to stick to around 350 pages max. We made an exception for Sometimes a Great Notion, but that's frankly in a different class than this (or most) books.

If there are any fiction books of roughly that length, like a thriller or historical novel or something, that interweaves conspiracy theories into its plot, I'd be all for that, provided it's better written than Dan Brown's stuff.

I wonder what that audio file covers. No way a recording of 500 pages is barely over two hours long.

Ep. 2: Moron vs. The Road
I love dystopian books and this is truly the only on that I hated!!

It was boring and didn't do what dystopian literature is meant to. Even when something "exciting" happened, the writing style made it seem dull.

And why does McCarthy never even tell you what happened to the world? Reading this book is pointless as there is little or no development of characters or any even remotely big event. (view spoiler)[Except that he dies. (hide spoiler)]

Is the movie any better?

Yes, the movie's waaaaay better. The Dad gets this jetpack and they play "All-Star" by Smashmouth as he grabs his son and flies up into the sky. There's a rainbow on the horizon and verdant plant-life overtaking the gray. Make sure to watch for the outtakes; they're HILARIOUS. Adding Seann William Scott as the funny cousin was a big relief, too.

Of the four biographies, Basquiat may have been the least scholarly, written from a slightly more journalistic approach. It comes off as a bit more unseemly in its perspective and was not "recognized" as an official biography. However, it is a relatively quick read and does have historical merit.

Speaking of college ball, I had a great time watching the shootout between UVA and Miami today (which Virginia won 41-40). I usually like a li'l defense in my football, but with college ball I usually find the passing offense so dreadful that it became refreshing to see 500 total yards of offense in the first quarter.

It was also refreshing to see how many fewer rules there were in the college game. Don't get me wrong, the game was officiated terribly, but Jesus, they let 'em play. I saw a bunch of holds, blocks in the back, and face mask penalties that didn't get called that would have decided the outcome of modern NFL games. I swear, the NFL's about getting unwatchable from all the penalties anymore.

Watching the game today also confirmed my suspicion that the Shanahans are college coaches. That's where they belong. There's no room for all that goofy trick shit and options against NFL defenses. That's why they're at .300 since they took over the Skins two and a half seasons ago.

Yeah, exactly. For me, nerd ain't what you like, it's how you like it, i.e. to the exclusion of all else and of common sense. There are as many sports nerds and politics nerds as Star Wars nerds. Liking comics doesn't make you a nerd, but insisting that every character in comics has to meet Batman does. It's about obsessing.
