I enjoyed this second installment in the Odd Thomas series significantly less than the first, which I really enjoyed. The only good thing about this book was the opportunity to revisit many of the characters I enjoyed from the first book. The plot of this one left a lot to be desired and the bodocks that fascinated me so much from the first book were barely mentioned. The story didn't abide much by sense, especially the irrationally complex scheme hatched by the villain of the story. I found it interesting that the supposed best friend of Odd (so close they were like brothers) who is introduced at the start of the book was never once mentioned in the first that I can recall. They must not have been too close. I'm hoping Brother Odd will be better, but, at more than halfway through, it doesn't seem to be so far.

This book is remarkable purely because it sparked this brilliant review - http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...I wish the author would read the rest of the series and sum them up in this brilliant way. LOL! That would be much better than the books themselves.

OMG 'This book is the equivalent of Dean Koontz coming to your house and dumping your children in a woodchipper aimed at your freshly washed sheets. Why does Dean Koontz hate humanity so much? The world may never know.'
wow, I didn't really like this book (or ANY of the Odd books), but I LOVED this guys review of it too. Why DOES DK hate humanity so much?

I'm in the minority here but I actually liked Forever Odd the most out of the sequels. Yes, the plan made by the villain didn't make much sense, but I just loved Datura. I especially enjoyed the back and forth where she'd say something completely insane and Odd would respond with some of that deadpan humor.
It wasn't my favorite in the series (I'm not a huge fan of villains who are just plain crazy), but I like they way it tied Odd comforting the ghosts in the casino to actually getting on with his own grieving process after losing Stormy. I found that touching and that's what made it a worthy read for me.BTW, putting spoilers in a review is MEAN, and then insulting people for complaining about spoilers is extra mean. The guy may be funny, but he's still a hater. Haters don't get points from me, no matter how clever they are.

I should re-read them all before book 5 comes out next year. I've forgotten so much. I'm especially interested in re-reading Forever Odd and Odd Hours since I have re-reread Odd Thomas and Brother Odd already.

Maybe for me it was the environmental details of the monastery that made it drag for ages and ages but even the "bone creatures" couldn't save the book. Forever Odd was shorter and the villain much more interesting.

My friend Maciek liked it and I was thinking about giving it a read.

I just finished my reread of Forever Odd. Since I wasn't a huge fan of Brother Odd I may not reread it and I just recently reread Odd Hours for the monthly read so I guess all that is left is to wait for Odd Apocalypse.
I started Forever Odd for the first time today! I was able to check out Deeply Odd from the library yesterday - my turn for it came around a lot quicker than I was expecting - so I really need to get reading to get caught up to it! :-)
The books will appear when the time is right. Savor each one. I would really try to read them in order if I were you. I think you will see connections and understand more. Sometimes there are just these subtle references.

lol I liked most-not all of the Odd books but I have to say this review did make me laugh. It was a "well when you put it that way" moment hahaha loved it
I'm partway through this book now and am really liking it so far.I found that it grabbed me a lot quicker at the start that then first one did and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.
I like the Odd Thomas books just as fun little stories......they are by no means his best efforts in storytelling!!!! Christopher Snow in his town of Moonlight Bay.....the Fear Nothing and Seize The Night books.....which I so wish Dean would finish his story.....he is a more interesting character than Odd.....also By The Light of The Moon.....that book was very good and I want to know what's happening to those characters too!!!!
I loved going back and reading Forever Odd. It reminded me of Odd's "roots" as we are progressing along the Odd journey.

Maybe when Dean finishes the Odd Thomas series he will have time to bring us updates on those other characters we love. We can hope. Anything is possible :-) Dean has long promised to deliver Ride the Storm book 3 of the Chris Snow Series. I believe I read somewhere that he has started writing it but then got distracted with Odd Thomas and Frankenstein. I also would love a sequel to By the Light of the Moon or Life Expectancy.

Me too !!! I found it interesting that Moonlight Bay characters were in Odd books....he talks about Odd being "led" to where he is needed.....I wonder if he will end up in Moonlight Bay just in the nick of time to help Christopher??? You never know!! :-)
The connections to the underground "lab" and former bases at Wyvern that recur seem to tie a lot of characters together too. The creatures Odd sees in the future in "Odd Apocalypse" seem to be similar to those from Moonlight Bay.
I just finished this book and absolutely loved it!I found it so much more interesting than the first one and literally could not put it down once I was over 2/3 through.
Odd's character develops so much more in this instalment and the plot line was really fast moving and engaging.
I can't wait to read the rest of the series now!
Ok, so I am revisiting Odd Thomas and finally getting a chance to read Forever Odd. I realize that I am WAY behind in the series but after several years it is nice that the character is still familiar. Just started it today and I am being brought back into that world that I almost forgot about. Curious how this one will play out (I am not reading any spoilers and will read through this thread later).
I've only read this book once I think. I believe I was too busy with work last year when it was chosen as a group read. I remember it as being among my least favorite in the Odd Thomas series, but I should re-read it sometime (I intend to one of these days) and give Forever Odd another chance :-)
I think that is a good idea. In fact I think most Koontz books deserve a second reading if you didn't like it the first time.

That's why I'll be re-reading What the Night Knows :-)

I need to reread this series as well. Maybe I will start with this one since I have read the first one a dozen times.

Post when you are wanting to read it and maybe we can feature it as a Mini Group Read sometime this year.
