Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments Between being official "Audiobook Month" and 34 Romance Audiobook releases, June is going to be a great listening month!

I'm listening toVisions of Heat and anxiously awaiting Magic Slaysand Kiss of Snow in audiobook forms.

D.G. | 1329 comments I'm listening to Mr. Cavendish, I Presume. I've been giggling like crazy (the writing in some romance novels sounds a bit funny when read aloud, I think.)

message 3: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments Who's narrating the Julia Quinn D.G.? The narrator makes all the difference in the eye rolling department for me. :D

message 4: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1329 comments Rosalyn Landor. To be fair, Julia Quinn's books are supposed to be funny and the narrator has a way about her that makes you want to laugh...but the parts I'm finding funny are when the hero is thinking. He just sounds too self important and I wonder if he's being serious. As my late mother in law would have said 'he thinks wonders who he is.'

message 5: by Brenda (last edited Jun 01, 2011 08:07AM) (new)

Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments Ahhh, not being a fan of Landor's male voices I completely understand. She catches the rest right most of the time, so at least that's a plus. :) I want to hear the humor when it's there and Julia Quinn does a good job of writing it into her books.

message 6: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1379 comments started listening to The Hiding Place this am, next on the que is Fool

message 7: by Gigi (new)

Gigi | 10 comments I'm currently listening to Lover Mine

message 8: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1329 comments So I dnfed the Julia Quinn book (not Landor's fault...I just wasn't enjoying the story.) Then I start The Peach Keeper, which is a book I'm really looking forward as SAA is one of my favorite authors.

Then I listen to 5 minutes and I couldn't continue because the narrator sounds like she's crazy! She narrates in a weird singsong voice with really awkward pauses...I guess that was her attempt to convey the magical atmosphere but it didn't work AT ALL. She just sounds like she's thisclose of being sent to the looney bin.

Now I'll have to get a print copy...and I was so excited I was able to get the audiobook from the library so quickly!!

message 9: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1379 comments I tried the sample of the Julia Quinn book and wasn't too wowed, by the voice or the story...so it went in the some day maybe pile...its a pity, since I was sort of looking forward to the smith-smyth girls

Lol @ narrator being sent to looney bin! Lol

message 11: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1329 comments I'll try the first book in the Smythy-Smith quartet in print and see how I like it.

So after my failures of last night, I started a third audiobook A Wallflower Christmas, also narrated by Landor. This one is so much better! Not only the story but the narration too! I think I like this somewhat sober Landor better.

I'm almost done with it...although I just realized it's not a good idea to listen to love scenes at work, LOL!

message 12: by Krissie (new)

Krissie | 224 comments Finished Lover Mine. Need to attempt the first Magic book by Ilona Andrews again (it's not catching my fancy). Tried Eve Silver's book (forget the title) but it didn't work either. I need something to sweep me away.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 225 comments I'm listening to Deadly Fear by Cynthia Eden and will then be moving onto the audios for Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews and Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling, #2) by Nalini Singh, Angela Dawe

message 14: by Purdy Gertie (last edited Jun 02, 2011 11:37AM) (new)

Purdy Gertie (purdygertie) | 5 comments I'm listening to Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep by Jennifer Estep and I am also listening to Blood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs by Patricia Briggs.

message 15: by Diana (new)

Diana (dianadcmd) Krissy, several false starts for me on the Magic series, too. Book 3 is excellent and book 4 Magic Bleeds is Smashing Good! What a payoff in the romance department! And the final scene...whoa, jaw dropping. Narrator Raudman nails it.

Thanks to Brenda for helping me get into it. It's a smashing good series, really!

message 16: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 296 comments I finished relistening to Faro's Daughter (wonderful) and just started The Highlander's Touch.

message 17: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1329 comments Yesterday I started listening The Ditchdigger's Daughters: A Black Family's Astonishing Success Story and oh wow! The story is so engaging, touching and funny. The narrator is doing a pretty good job so far.

message 18: by Krissie (new)

Krissie | 224 comments OK, I'll persevere on the Magic series. Plus, I read Call Me Irresistibleand loved it to pieces!

message 19: by paula (new)

paula (paula_) | 212 comments Currently listening to Dream of Me. ..enjoying it so far.

message 20: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Audiobooks Only | 631 comments And the final scene...whoa, jaw dropping. Narrator Raudman nails it.

I can listen from the last battle scene to the end of the book again and again, it has yet to get old. :) Raudman is smoking hot with Ilona Andrews writing in her hands.

Can't wait to hear her with Magic Slays next week. I could hear Raudman's voice in my head as I read, but the real thing will be much better. :D

message 21: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1379 comments i'm almost done with The Hiding Place - trying to decide what next - Fool or Succubus Heat

message 22: by Kalena (new)

Kalena (kalenav) | 36 comments I finished Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton and Raiders' Ransom by Emily Diamand . I must have been in a piratey mood last month! I liked both and am passing Raiders Ransom on to my 9 y/o. Now I have started Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, #2) by Jennifer Estep and am not as excited about it as I was with the first elemental assassin. Perhaps not enough romance? I have 4 credits though and am looking for my next book.

message 23: by KarenH (new)

KarenH | 30 comments I finished The Wedding of the Century & Other Stories The Wedding of the Century\Jesse's Wife\Seduced by Starlight by Mary Jo Putney . Didn't care for the stories by Mary Jo Putney and Kristin James, but enjoyed the story by Charlotte Featherstone.

Now I am listening to The Vampire Narcise (Regency Draculia, #3) by Colleen Gleason Colleen Gleason's 3rd book in her Draculia series.

message 24: by Christina (new)

Christina | 54 comments I'm about to finish A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It's read by Jennifer Ikeda. It has fantasy, history, romance, and paranormal elements. I've enjoyed it so far. The narration is good. This is supposed to be the first of a trilogy.

message 25: by (just) Trixie (new)

(just) Trixie | 3 comments Purdy_gerdie wrote: "I'm listening to Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep by Jennifer Estep and I am also listening toBlood Bound (Mercedes Thompson, #2) by Patricia Briggs by Patricia Briggs."

How did you like Spider's Bite? I have it on audio and in paperback but haven't decided which one to do.

I'm listening to Midnight Rising (Midnight Breed, #4) by Lara Adrian right now but just finished up Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul, #1) by C.L. Wilson . It was good. I'm bummed though because I can't find Book 2 or 3 in audio. Book 4 and 5 are available but they skip 2 books.

message 26: by Laurie (barksbooks) (last edited Jun 08, 2011 07:32AM) (new)

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) I just finished Motor City Fae (Urban Arcana, #1) by Cindy Spencer Pape and thought it was sexy/cute/pretty good but the narration was terrible. I'm not sure what I'm in the mood to listen to next.

message 27: by D.G. (last edited Jun 08, 2011 08:53AM) (new)

D.G. | 1329 comments I started listening to Ravishing in Red (The Rarest Blooms, #1) by Madeline Hunter . The narrator seems good so far but I'd like to wait until I hear the hero to know if I'd like to continue.

message 28: by paula (new)

paula (paula_) | 212 comments Just finished Dream of Me/Believe in Me & Come Back to Me. Really liked this series.

Thinking of starting either Land of Falling Stars or Death Angel next.

You know, I loved Dream of Me and have listened to it several times. But I have never listened to the other two! How did I miss this?? Running over to Audible to purchase the other two.

Good that I didn't have my hopes up. This narrator needs a LOT of work on those male voices.

Sigh...another book to read on print...

message 31: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (magzzzz) | 25 comments I'm currently listening to Visions of Heat. I'm not that far along with it. Thinking of something historical next, something light. Maybe Julia Quinn of Julie Garwood. :)

message 32: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1329 comments I started the famous Darkfever. Don't care for Jericho's voice but the rest is going well.

message 33: by Lea's Audiobooks (last edited Jun 08, 2011 02:28PM) (new)

Lea's Audiobooks Hensley (leahensleysaudiobooks) D.G.
If you stay with the series (which I highly recommend), Jericho's voice changes in books four and five with the addition of Phil Gigante performing the male charaters. Fantastic!

message 34: by Diane (new)

Diane Mason | 129 comments I finished The Curse of Chalion (Chalion, #1) by Lois McMaster Bujold yesterday and started Paladin of Souls (Chalion, #2) by Lois McMaster Bujold .

That's what I've heard, Lea! I've never listened a book narrated by him but I've heard sooo many good things!

message 36: by Diana (new)

Diana (dianadcmd) Listening to You Belong to Me by Karen Rose narrated by Marguerite Gavin. Gavin is very good at m/f conversation. I wonder...how do you do that? Have a conversation with yourself in two different voices? It's a skill not all narrators have.

Audible says Magic Slays will be released on their site this Friday 6/10. I found myself as a go-between in a twitter conversation this morning with Tantor and Audible. The @audiblehelps account on twitter is the place to get answers.

Kelli (oddiophile) Diana wrote: "Audible says Magic Slays will be released on their site this Friday 6/10."

Audible must have felt the pressure; Magic Slays is available now.

message 38: by Diana (new)

Diana (dianadcmd) Yay! Just saw it on twitter. Downloading now.

message 39: by Krissie (new)

Krissie | 224 comments Finally finished the first Magic book by Ilona Andrews and liked it. I wonder if all the gross/gore was because it was co-written by a man? Not to be sexist, but the gross level was pretty high.
Not sure what I'll read next. I'd love a good historical before I go on to the next Magic book.

message 40: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 106 comments Historical or Historical Fiction?

message 41: by Krissie (new)

Krissie | 224 comments Historical romance. I love me some romance.

message 42: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 106 comments I was going to suggest Lady of the Butterflies (I read it didn't listen, it was when I did text editing). It is a historical romance but doesn't have so much.... action.
http://www.tantor.com/BookDetail.asp?...

We also have Dracula, My Love which is from Mina Harker's POV and her love of Dracula. But I haven't gotten to that one so I can't honestly say how good it is.

message 43: by Krissie (new)

Krissie | 224 comments Lady of the Butterflies sounds lovely. I need to check the Tantor site and see what else is coming up.

Wannaliveondessertisle | 11 comments I just finished Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward and Crave (The Fallen Angels, #2) by J.R. Ward . I can not wait for the next book in this series!!! Absolutely fabulous! I am currently listening to No Mercy (Dark-Hunter, #19) (Were-Hunter, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon ...its okay..predictable...narrator has done a better job at other Kenyon books...its okay...it is a time passer until I come across something else.

Yes!!!! His voice does change with Phil Gigante perfoming the male character...it is absolutely delectable! He did a great job narrating! Loved it!

message 46: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1379 comments i'm almost done with The Dogs of Riga (Wallander #2) by Henning Mankell - really enjoying this addition to the Wallander series, and I reserved the next one from the library - next up is Succubus Heat (Georgina Kincaid, #4) by Richelle Mead

message 47: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1329 comments I'm thinking of switching to print for books 2 & 3. I'm enjoying the book but I'm nowhere crazy about it and I don't know if it is because I'm barely a third to the book or because of the narration.

message 48: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1379 comments Darkfever gets better, but the first book is really slow and a lot of people want to give up on it...Mac gets better...but Phil comes in at book 4 with another female narrator - sort of threw me at the beginning

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 225 comments D.G. ~Vile Temptress~ wrote: "I started the famous Darkfever. Don't care for Jericho's voice but the rest is going well."

Phil Gigante was great in the Fever series....I did not care for the new female narrator, while not bad I like the narration from the one that did the first 3

message 50: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1379 comments so did i (I think her name was joyce bean)...the other girl is natalie something...i'm glad they added phil, but it threw me with the new female narrator
