Jammies Hi, my name is Jammies, and I'm a "Hee-Haw" survivor. My dad used to line me and my brothers up on the couch every Saturday night and subject us to an hour of cheese-laden, 1970s country music.

*sobs*

Angel Martinez (angelmartinez) | 30 comments Hi, my name is Angel and I'm a Lawrence Welk survivor. Dear gods...the polkas...the bubbles... Sorry, flashbacks.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Dear God, Ko. I couldn't stand more than about ten minutes of Cats, watching a DVD of it.
Those are NOT CATS. They are scary Broadway dancers.

message 5: by Angel (new)

Angel Martinez (angelmartinez) | 30 comments Very, very scary...and often annoying.

message 6: by Jammies (new)

Jammies *hugs Mary and Angel and Jackie and Ko*

You brave, brave women!

Félix (habitseven) Oh very young. :)

Hi, my name is Clark and I'm a disco survivor and proud to say I've never worn a silk shirt or tight polyester trousers, danced the hustle, owned a copy of "Saturday Night Fever," or thought to myself, "You go, girl" while listening to Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

Get down, boogie oogie oogie...

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Ha! It doesn't matter what you say now Clark, the image I have of you will be in a silk shirt and tight polyester pants.

Memo to myself: Add gold chains, platform shoes, helmet hair, and really bad cologne to the list.

How about the 80s, did you survive them?

message 24: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I most especially did survive the 80s. Each of these decades was formative for my life. They have made me what I am today. For better or worse.

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I saw Cats on Broadway when I was eight. I think that is exactly the right age to enjoy it.

message 36: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 20 comments I feel like I've survived everything.

My dad used to randomly shout at me as I walked through the living room, "You have to watch this!" and make me sit down and watch the movie from the middle. This was in the days pre-VCR and pre-cable (really!), where having a movie on TV was a rare and wondrous thing. Though we did pay HBO to put a giant three-story antenna on our roof so we could get HBO and nothing else. The movies on the dad "You have to watch this!" list ranged from The Jerk (okay, I love it to this day) and Blazing Saddles (somehow I always managed to escape) to The Ten Commandments (which was always on during Easter week). Survived them all. And another Dad favorite, UHF, as well.

I have also survived Smurfs, legwarmers, pegged jeans, puffy sleeves, floral prints, The Neverending Story, junior high, high school, college at a large and soulless state school, grad school, writing a dissertation, Oregon winters 2003-2010, huge swaths of unemployment, dating a painter, dating an actor, my mother's death from lung cancer, and...oh my god, what the hell is going on with the legwarmers, pegged jeans, puffy sleeves, and floral prints? NEVER AGAIN!

message 37: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Oh Lisa! Be grateful you never had to wear bell-bottoms. I remember the ones that were tight to the knee and then flared out with copious amounts of fabric.

message 38: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Lisa, we've lived through a lot of things, and I'd have to add *shudder* gauchos to your list. What did we do to be punished by having to live through '70s fashions twice?

message 39: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Lisa, aren't you from Minnesota? Why would Oregon winters be a challenge after Minnesota winters?

what about a "members only" jacket or parachute pants, Clark?
I survived the 80's, just barely ;)

I remember them both, but never owned either. I think my dad had a "Members Only" jacket, albeit a conservative one.

I did, however, own a couple of horizontally-striped t-shirts.
