Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 490 comments Gaving up on Armor and Fire Upon the Deep to read World Without End, which I been wanting to read since I finished the Pillar of the Earth a little over a year ago.

Good to hear. I literally just finished loading this on my mp3 player to listen to.

Tim Tofton (tim_t) Re-reading "A Princess Of Mars" I read it when I was 14, this is the first time since. It's a bit dated but still a good story, looking forward to the John Carter film out this year.

message 555: by Banner (new)

Banner | 138 comments Tim I just did that awhile back. I wanted to get a refresher before the movie. I enjoyed it. The science is a little dated, but not so bad when you think about how long ago it was written.

I'm midway through Guy Gavriel Kay's Under Heaven, Murakami's 1Q84, and enjoying them both immensely. I'm also just about to start The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 372 comments I read it when I was about 14 or 15 to Tim, and that would have been a year or 2 years ahead of you I guess. I had the Science Fiction Book club editions of all the Burroughs Mars books.

message 558: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) I'm reading A Bad Spell in Yurt. It's an oldie...published in 1991, but it's not too bad so far.

message 559: by Beezlebug (Rob) (last edited Jan 22, 2012 07:35PM) (new)

Beezlebug (Rob) | 111 comments Finished The Year of the Flood, Troika, The Algebraist, Ready Player One and The Postmortal. Ready Player One and The Postmortal were never high on my list to read but I'm glad I did. The Postmortal in particular was excellent.

Starting House Harkonnen tomorrow (still sticking with my pledge to read all the Dune novels) and still working on The Passage audiobook. The Passage is sloooow going. I have a short commute so I only listen to about 20+ pages a day and the book is almost 800. Good so far though.

message 560: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I'm reading The Night Circus and I love it!

message 561: by Tad (new)

Tad (tottman) | 54 comments I'm reading Erebos by Ursula Poznanski. First couple of chapters were a little rocky, but now I'm starting to get into it.

Published in 1991 makes it an oldie? Wha?"

Well, relatively speaking! :D

message 564: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) There was a lot of good stuff written before 1991.

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) Sandra aka Sleo wrote: "There was a lot of good stuff written before 1991."

I know, I know! I guess it was just an unfortunate choice of words. :)

I just meant "oldie" in comparison to the more recent books I've been reading.

message 566: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments I finished 11/22/63 over the weekend. I really enjoyed it. I was really worried after reading some reviews.

Then I started The Night Circus.

message 567: by Beezlebug (Rob) (new)

Beezlebug (Rob) | 111 comments Finished The Passage today. Loved it. I'm sure the movie adaption will be crap though. There's no way they could do it justice.

message 568: by Ben (new)

Ben (bstanley52) I'm starting Gardens of the Moon and my first read of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. Kinda intimidating. I've been putting it off until I had more of the books in MMPB form. I'm looking forward to The Windup Girl and Dauntless with this group in March. Though I will probably fit in my next Discworld book (Equal Rites) before those two.

message 573: by CD (new)

CD | 112 comments I am reading 1Q84. Read the first 100 pages or so at one sitting and stayed awake much longer that evening than planned!

Yes the book is captivating.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 372 comments Not reading any real science fiction right now. Finishing a fantasy (Princeps' Fury) and starting 2 others (The Knights of the Dawn King and The Well of Ascension).

message 575: by Chris (new)

Chris Currently reading: The Map of Time by Félix J. Palma and Intrepid (Intrepid #1) by Steve Stone

message 577: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) I finished The Night Circus and I loved it! I'm now reading Elizabeth The Queen: The Life Of A Modern Monarch, Sojourn, and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Vol. 1. I really need to finish some of these up.

message 579: by Beezlebug (Rob) (new)

Beezlebug (Rob) | 111 comments Finally finished House Harkonnen and also knocked out The Electric Church and Far North over the weekend.

Has anyon else read Far North? If so I've got a question...

message 580: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments Finished We Have Always Lived in the Castle last night. Great book from Shirley Jackson.

Started A Dirty Job this morning. I love his books. They always give you a laugh.

message 581: by Gary (new)

Gary Proctor | 3 comments Just finished the second in David Weber's Honor Harrington series, The Honor of the Queen. Terrific book. While the first On Basilisk Station may have been a bit pedantic at the start, this one whizzed right along. Reading the third The Short Victorious War now. Also finished the second book Catching Fire (of 3) in the Hunger Games series. Not as well paced as the first, but still well worth reading. Also, just finished reading the new Vince Flynn thriller Kill Shot now.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 372 comments Reading 1Q84( 1Q84 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami ) and am agreeing with what seems to be the prevailing opinion...odd read even for a writer known for odd reads.

message 583: by Scott (new)

Scott | 130 comments Finished A Dirty Job yesterday and then started Bad Moon Rising. This is the final installment of the Pine Deep Trilogy.

message 584: by Jason (new)

message 587: by J.P. (new)

J.P. | 104 comments I would go with Hyperion. It's one of the best science fiction books ever in my opinion.

message 588: by Chris (new)

Chris Peach (ramsses) | 3 comments Thanks for that J.P. Decision made then.

I'll second that :-)

I'm finishing up Containment right now.

Pandora's Star is near the top of my TBR pile, though I'm not sure if I'll go with that, The Steel Remains, or The Long Goodbye for my next read.

I'm reading Hyperion now, and it is excellent!

message 592: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 490 comments Here is my list to finish before the end of the month: Snow Crash, Hounded, Daughter of the Blood, Dawn, and The Accident. Reading Snow Crash now, but not as comfortable with the third person narrative because its not done as much in books.

You won't regret reading Hyperion. It's a great book. I read it last month and it was so good I'm reading Endymion now, the third book in the Hyperion Cantos series.

I'm loving it so far also. I have The Rise of Endymion on my shelf. It looks like it will get first priority after I finish Endymion. The Cantos has been disrupting my TBR list.

That's how good they are, right? lol. I'm now thinking what sci fi series to read next. When you read books like the Cantos series your expectations thereafter go a couple of notches higher.

Looks interesting, thank you. Have you read it? Did you like it? I found the Red Mars series by KR Robinson at the library and I wonder if they are good.

message 600: by Scott (new)

Scott I am about halfway through. It is pretty good.
