making very slow progress on The Pale King - even with nothing else on the go (Archangel on hold...) I'm behind on the 80 pages a week target for the Goodread's group.Savouring it
The End of the JewsStarted this today. and by started i mean got through about 10 pages. it seems good enough to start with at least. just been busy. Gotta go collect the babs from creche now. Be on tonight when he's asleep. Ciaoo. x
No, not yet. I've The Redbreast and a couple of other ones of his on my TBR pile but I haven't gotten around to them yet. I'll be interested to know what you're thinking. At the moment I'm reading: The Black Prince. I'm about a 150 pages into it and enjoying it so far, although hating the main character (which you're kind of supposed to, so it's fine).
Also for a light read in between: Jude: Level 1, only just started but had a few laughs out of it already so that's a good sign.

Not yet, but am looking forward to them at some stage. I'm into audiobooks and the first two aren't available ... yet, I keep hoping. And, yes, I must read them in order!
Do let us know what you think of The Redbreast :)
re:Jude: Level 1At work, instead of working reading (and adding quotes). Aww, I really liked this bit (no spoilers, just, I don't know, really nice even if the idea's not new):

I just boughtThe Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Societytoday as so many people have been telling me how good it is, to be honest the name of the book has put me off reading it until now, but will read it and see why everyone raves about it.
Finished End of the Jews by Adam Mansbach which was very good. Few pages into When God was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman and it's already seeming epic. ;D
@ Dem - I read that book a few years ago. It was the title that attracted me. It was a very good read.
Sam wrote: "@ Dem - I read that book a few years ago. It was the title that attracted me. It was a very good read." Oh thats great, just finishing Ghost light Sam and then its my next read.
The Gods of War. Really enjoyed the series, but this fourth book is too slow and I'm finding it a little boring. Disappointing end to a good series.
Just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Societyand will have to say this is one of the times when "dont judge a book by its cover" comes into play, loved this novel about the occupation of Guernsey by the Germans during the Second World war. A Great story sad and funny at the same time.
I'm listening to Cutting for Stone (jury is still out) and have just finished reading Still Alice which I loved and makes me want to do some thing with people who have early onset alzehimers.

I have just started it too. A few people have recommended the series to me and i'm enjoying it so far.
Vicki wrote: "Not Catch 22! Im reading The Pursuit of Happiness My first Douglas Kennedy, its good so far."It's one of my favourite books. Really good.

Yeah I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the others in the series. I also mentioned his books to my real life reading group ( we meet at the Wexford Library) and they are all going to give him a go.
It was full of twists and turns and not until the very end did I guess where it was going.

Vicki wrote: "Which one Juliana, catch 22 or Douglas Kennedy?"LoL sorry, was talking about Douglas Kennedy. Read it a few years ago, great summer read.
Arielle wrote: "I'm currently reading The Tudors: The Complete Story of England's Most Notorious Dynasty."
That sounds like a heavy read. If you enjoy it you might like Wolf Hall

Better late than never Dem. It's a very haunting book.
I have just started a Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It is good so far. Will keep u updated.
Andy wrote: "just starting into
, so far so good..."I did enjoy this however I read it a while ago and it was my first Delillo book, must pick it up again as it's short enough. Enjoy. Have you read any of his previous books?
Right now on A Trip to the Stars by Nicholas Christopher. The man's knowledge of the natural world and how he ties it to the mythological is overwhelming, although sometimes his character seem a little airbrushed (which might be intentional).
Monica wrote: "The Spirit Level: Why Equality is Better for Everyone - a really good read!"That sounds interesting Monica, might look it up myself! Thanks.
I have just started reading Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. So far it is good. I really enjoyed reading the other books in the Shopaholic series.
I'm marching through In the Garden of Beasts. I'm boring people around me with Hitler/Nazi trivia so I think that reflects well on the book.
Oh, that's my favourite of the bind ups :) Love Huntress and Witchlight. Not a big fan of Black Dawn, but they're great, fun, romantic reads :)
Im reading The Outcast at the moment. It sounds contradictory but its one of those OK ish books you cant put down.
I'm just finishing
by Eduardo Mendoza (in English translation that's
) and I am really enjoying it, makes me want to read some more by him.The book is set in Barcelona, action spanning from 1887 to 1929; kind of a rags to riches story with an unscrupulous and fairly despicable main character (in case anyone wondered, I love me some despicable characters but if you're looking for a protagonist that you want to identify with or cheer for, that's probably not your type of a book). Big bonus for me is the abundance of interesting historical information weaved into the novel. Well worth a read.
