Julie Well, I don't know what my next five will be but I'm heading back home later this week for my sister in law's baby shower and unfortunately having to stay a few weeks. My parents don't have cable tv or internet (also no AC :( it's an old farmhouse) and my cell phone doesn't get reception there! So I'm going to take all these books with me...

The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams Three Bedrooms, One Corpse (Aurora Teagarden, #3) by Charlaine Harris The Nine Lives of Chloe King (Nine Lives of Chloe King, #1-3) by Liz Braswell Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls, #1) by C.C. Hunter My Fair Godmother (My Fair Godmother, #1) by Janette Rallison XVI (XVI, #1) by Julia Karr The Demon Trapper's Daughter (The Demon Trappers #1) by Jana Oliver Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver Timescape (Dreamhouse Kings, #4) by Robert Liparulo

Plus my e-reader which has plenty of other books on it.

Jennifer, I'm so jealous of your to-read list! It's awesome! I wish I could read all those books again for the first time! :) Especially Birthmarked. That was amazing!

I envy all you guys! Jeez, I've read like two books in the past two months! I'm going through withdrawals!

Yay! I heard good stuff about this book. And the fact that the narrator is a boy makes me wanna read it more! haha

Btw, about your next fives. Is Strange Angels good? Or just normal? :]

I assume you are referring to Cloaked? It's really good so far. It's like a bunch of fairytales/fables all wrapped into one story. Plus, I just really enjoy Alex Flynn's writing...shes super funny.

Strange Angels is pretty good, but I don't feel as stongly for this series as I have for others. Like Vampire Academy. They are kinda similar worlds, but this series just isn't gripping me the same way. I am enjoying it, but I don't think it will be one of my favorites.

message 64: by Chels M. (new)

Chels M. (farewell-autumn) Ups, I was talking about Intertwined :]
I must read Vampire Academy. It seems like I´m the one who didn´t do it yet.

message 65: by Chris (last edited Jul 27, 2011 08:20AM) (new)

Chris (necaros) | 18 comments I usually don't know too far ahead what I am reading, but it's a little more organized right now because of some up-coming group reads.
Right now, The Gone-Away World by Nick Harkaway some really weird post-apox stuff, some of it is fasinating, but the author goes on these boringly long backstory tangents, and the writing style is really odd.
Then, Starfish Girl by Athena Villaverde , can't wait! I've been wanting to read this for awhile!
Group reads: Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano The Forever War by Joe Haldeman Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon
and, I hope to sneak in, Only Forward by Michael Marshall Smith
Swan song is a long book.. But, the rest should be a breeze.

Bethany Chels wrote: "Ups, I was talking about Intertwined :]

Oh, haha. Yes, Intertwined is really great. The narraration actually goes back n forth between characters a bit, but the MC is a guy and he's awesome.

And, YES! you definitely need to read Vampire Academy. It's so good...way better than Strange Angels.

message 67: by Alli (new)

Alli (allic) OMG VAMPIRE ACADEMY. *dies* I love that series. Like, it's amazing.

Strange Angels is good, too. It gets better throughout the series. But yeah, I agree with Bethany, VA is better than SA. Read both. (:

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms, #1) by Kristin Cashore are all really good. Poison Study isn't really a YA novel, but can still be read by that audience.

Jennifer (teoe) I'm currently reading Unwind. I have The Giver (The Giver, #1) by Lois Lowry and Gathering Blue also checked out from the library. I'll probably add Messenger to my list at the ibrary so I can read all three in a row. City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare is waiting fro me to pick up at the library as well. I'll be adding the next in the series to my hold list so I can start to get that whole series read.

Abandon (Abandon Trilogy, #1) by Meg Cabot The Gathering (Darkness Rising, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Rip Tide (Dark Life, #2) by Kat Falls Abandon (Abandon Trilogy, #1) by Meg Cabot. I love that it's about the Persephone myth and the fact that it is set in the modern world is cool. It has a few good creepy parts and I liked the Hades-like character.

But on the other hand, I was disappointed. It just lacked that something that grabs you in and makes you want to keep reading. The flow was weird. Waiting for the flashbacks to figure out what the heck was going on was more frustrating than suspenseful. The romance was rushed and some of the mythology she made up didn't make sense to me. I think I will read the 2nd one though.

message 84: by Bethany (last edited Oct 28, 2011 03:06PM) (new)

Bethany Ung! I don't like flashbacks. I really hate when authors use a lot of flashbacks. One or two isn't so bad, but when there are a lot of them it always confuses me.

My next five...
Looking for Alaska by John Green The Death Cure (Maze Runner, #3) by James Dashner The Iron Thorn (Iron Codex, #1) by Caitlin Kittredge Life As We Knew It (Last Survivors, #1) by Susan Beth Pfeffer An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

Some of those may get pushed back though...I have The Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus, #2) by Rick Riordan on reserve at the library.

message 96: by Alli (new)

Alli (allic) @Julie, is the chemical garden series any good?

message 97: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Alli wrote: "@Julie, is the chemical garden series any good?"

I liked it a lot, but I didn't LOVE it. It got a bit of mixed feelings here in the group when it was a monthly read. It is very dystopian in feel, very thought provoking as well. I think some people didn't care for some of the themes. But, I would definitely recommemd giving it a try at least. It was a four star book for me.

message 98: by Julie (new)

Julie Alli wrote: "@Julie, is the chemical garden series any good?"

I really enjoyed it, we'll see how much I like it this time around though. I gave it 5 stars because I like books that make me want to read non stop until I'm finished and Wither was definitely one of those for me. There were some elements that were not quite believable but I was able to overlook those and focus on the overall story. I agree with Bethany, it's very thought provoking and there were some themes that I know not everyone cares for. I think it's definitely worth a try.
