I don't think there's a lot you can do about it to be honest. I contacted the site and asked them to take it down and they basically said it's not their problem.

They are knowingly encouraging book piracy as well as being active participants by hosting the site. I suggest you talk to legal council, barrister or solicitor, whichever is more appropriate under British law. Either that or chat with the fraud division at New Scotland Yard. Your call but remember each time an illegal download takes place, you're being robbed of royalties.

It didn't take me too terribly long to realize that being an indie author with a ninety-nine cent book was not going to be my path to financial independence. But it occurred to me that perhaps it would be a good thing to see if it could help me support a cause or two I believe in. So I am part of Operation ebook Drop, which provids free ebooks to service men and women stationed overseas and just recently I decided to donate all of my earnings from October through Thanksgiving (November 24th) to the Life is good Playmakers Foundation, which trains child care professional who work with kids in life challenging situations. So, I am just putting the word out there hoping to generate as many sales before Nov. 24th as possible. When I sell a paperback direct from my website that means $7.12 cents of the $9.99 price goes to the foundation. When I sell an ebook somewhere between 35 cents and 60 cents, depending on the retailer, goes to the foundation. Obviously ebooks are where the volume is, but it takes a lot to add up.
Anyway, if you have read and enjoyed Boomerang, now would be a great time to help me get the word out. And if you know of anyone who qualifies for Operation ebook Drop please check out the organization's page on Facebook for info on how to sign up. I've got to tell you that it is a real kick to get a thank you email from the commander of a nuclear submarine and a nice note from troops stationed in Afghanistan.

Hi Everyone!In my case, I think, It was both funny and sad how ignorant I was of indie authors and books until I became one. I lived in Mexico though, so every trip to the U.S. meant going to a store and loading up for the next trip.
When I moved over here I began to learn about the indie community and now most of the books I read are indie.
I still go to the stores, but I don't load up as before.

I agree with a number of you. It's hard to really know what being an Indie author is like until you are one, but so far, it's been an awarding experience for me. I really enjoy seeing my books out there, getting reviews, and being able to do my own covers and marketing. Plus, I've found some great reads from other Indie authors, and made some good friends. I'm definitely glad I didn't publish traditionally, though I'm sure some things would have been easier.
There are great rewards to going the indie route. Getting publicity is fun and you do make friends.I've written four books but am a lazy writer---I like to do thinks according to my schedule. I'm afraid a deadline would give me writers block, which I've never had, knock wood. My books are mysteries so they won't get too dated for some time and I can keep them all available. I like controlling the price of the books, offering large print and Kindle editions and giving them away sometimes.
Being an indie author has been an interesting experience to say the least. It's not an easy venture without the muscle of a publishing company behind you. But in the end, I like that I have full on control of my destiny. I just hope I don't crash and burn trying to be an author, book marketing director, web master, working full time, a mother, and a wife. You can't be good at all thing so something will suffer.

Have not read that book- but am sure it is a fine read as I respect your judgement Scott- key point is though, there are so many wonderful books by indie and small press writers- very much worth the time to seek out!

Thanks Rick. I was trying to add books to Google Book, but it was so confusing I didn't finish. I wasn't sure if you could add books published with CreatSpace, Amazon Kindle, and Smashwords, or publish a new versions with them. There were so many confusing things on that website and instructions weren't clear to me at all. :(

Life has been crazy, aside from the writing, and we haven't really had a chance to get on here to say hello. I don't know how many people realize it, but M.A. Leslie, is two people.
My wife, Amy and I write under one pen name. Writing has been a life long goal for both of us and alone we never finished anything. But after I got sick, we found the time to write. It started as a way to pass the time...
Together though, we have written several books.
We seem to love the paranormal genre more than anything else, read and write.
Anyway, We just wanted to take a minute, say hello, and let you know that we would love to have you read our books. They are only 99 cents each and we love them and the characters in them.

I'm currently reading "Discontents" by James Wallace Birch. I think his story line is really good so far.

I'm an indie author and have read quite a few indie books this past few months, though mostly those for children as my daughter wants a Kindle for Christmas and I wanted to find some good books to add to it.I have two ebooks 'out there', both fantasy - one for adults, one for children...
I'm hoping to have another fantasy novel (YA/crossover) out just after the new year. I had hoped to get it out earlier, but I ended up with rather more editing to do than I'd been expecting and I want to get it just right.

If you not in the know,Independent Authors and Writers website initially appeared on the web in July 2011. It had to close in September(too long a story) but it came back up and running this weekend.
If you visit the website, http://www.independentauthors.org you will see all kinds of Independent authors with pages for their books.
FYI: Brainrush by Richard Bard is a KDP feature book. Richard Bard's book is on IAW and has been since the summer.
