message 755: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments It's only going to be 43 here today for a high! At lease we didn't get the snow they predicted! I'm not ready for that.

message 756: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I hate snow!! I just cringed when I read your post Paula. I am not ready for that either, but we usually do not see it until November in Chicago.

message 757: by [deleted user] (new)

I think rain is headed towards Chicago. Snow hit the Rockies this weekend.

I'm sorry Paula. I don't like the cold or the snow. i take that partially back. I like the snow on Christmas.

message 758: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments At least it is 76 degrees today!!

message 759: by [deleted user] (new)

I love the snow...for the first couple of weeks. Then I want it all to be GONE!

message 760: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I like snow a lot, in theory. In practice, I prefer sand which is one reason I live in the tropics. Its cold here today though, 72ish and everything is white as the area, the rainforest is in a cloud. Tropical storm Nana is affecting us. I hope it doesn't become a hurricane and affect all of you.

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments OK, The pie story...
It all started with a shot of tequilla. (Does'nt it always??lol) Which turned into 2, 3, 4..etc... We were at a friends bachorlets party and another friend had brought a lemon meroingn pie, and we were saving it for later....Well...after about 4 or 5 shots, I snuck into the kitchen, and ATE THE WHOLE PIE... well most of it... When it came time to dig in, the pie was gone. "Who ate my pie??" The bride to be was pissed!!! "It was'nt me!!" I said!!! But then, you know what happens after 5 shots of tequilla, and most of a lemon pie??? Yeah... I had to confess..."I ate the pie!!!" She was so mad, but I was the maid of honer, and her best friend, and she made me take the shots!!!
Ahhh, youth and the stupid things we did...

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) I love snow....except when they dont cancel school and it gets rediculously high like last December. It was the first big snow storm in Boston and it was BIG. Well, like normal...Mayor Menino decided not to cancel school. Well, when we got out of school at 2:15 the snow was up to our knees and only 2 of the 13 buses came. There was so much traffic and even the trains werent running properly. Well it was a very interesting night filled with falling in snow. Going to a creepy station. A 31 year old guy telling me that he wanted to do things with me that I didnt want to know. My friend Yen, getting her leg felt up by some lady who was probably on crack. Me getting mad at Yen. Her storming off to where ever her mom was supposedly going to meet her (its 7 now). Then I wait for another bus to take me to another station. Once I got there I waited for 2 hours for another bus to come. While waiting some lady took pity on me and gave me a pair of gloves that she had in her purse. When the bus finally did come, what was normally a 10 minutes ride, took an hour. I didnt get home until 10 pm.

....and that day I had broken up with my boyfriend. If I hadnt I would've been in the warmth of his house by 4 where my parents would've picked me up on their way home (which would'nt have been until like 11:30...but at least I would've been warm).

message 770: by [deleted user] (new)

Unusually warm weather in Chicagoland area. But I will enjoy it! :)

message 771: by [deleted user] (new)

Emma, you are making me hungry!

message 772: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments LOL, Sorry Jeremy!

message 773: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Random Cat thought. I just got home and called my kitties, up came Lily but not Talullah whom I could hear crying. The little thing (3.5 months old) was 15' up a very thin tree trunk just where the branches start. Its been raining here for days due to tropical storm Nana so the ground, a hill was very wet. I went inside to change my clothes and put on flipflops and equipped myself with a purloined supermarket basket stuck on a broomstick. I made my way through the dense low rainforest bush until I was under the tree and started to call her. No miaowing no sound at all. I wonder if she's jumped into the canopy of another tree and clutching roots and trunks go looking for her calling all the time. Finally I give up hoping she hasn't fallen silently into the bush. Turn round to go back and there she is, 12" from me sitting watching me. Only a cat would do that. Lucky for them they can't grin.

message 774: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha Petra! I woke up to my cat meowing, and searching frantically for her. She ended up in the bathroom closet! Poor thing.

message 775: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Ah Petra, your post had me laughing! It's just like a cat,and something you either love or hate about them. I for one love that about them!

message 776: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments It is warming up, going to be 53 today! Wahoo!! LOL We had a little snow on the deck this morning early. I can take that. Pikes Peak has A LOT of snow on it today and my tomatoes froze last night. It's gradually going to warm up for a few days anyway.

Angela you get your share of snow don't you? And Emilee I don't mind it if I can stay inside, but that doesn't happen too often.

message 777: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments That sounds very nice right now Petra!

message 778: by [deleted user] (new)

Paula: I grew up on the other side of the Rockies. I actually miss the mountains. The snow wasn't too bad. I don't remember it being as cold out on the Rockies as it gets out in the Midwest. I am sure in another 60 days we will be lucky if we can get 30 as a warm day.

message 779: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) Not so nice right now Paula - the islands are under hurricane watch tonight. Winds don't sound too bad - not more than 50 mph expected but up to 12" rain! Its been raining for a week already and there are waterfalls everywhere since the ground can't absorb any more. I live high up on a mountain and my pickup is out of commission (needs a new clutch) and my Suzuki jeep has no brakes. This should be fun... Wish me luck.

message 780: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Paula, we do get our share of snow. Last year was horrific!! I really want to move :(

message 781: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Petra, are you being affected by Hurricane Omar or another hurricane? I can't seem to keep track of them since there has been so many. I have family in Puerto Rico that I'm worried about.

BTW, Good Luck and keep safe!

message 782: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) here's no wind, but lots of night birds, tree frogs (your family would call them cocquilles, we call them bo-peeps) and crickets. Heavy cloud but its high up - you can't see the Hunter's Moon. I don't think much will happen until late tomorrow unless Omar speeds up. I put a bit more about the coming storm in my 'writing' on my profile.

Where do your family live? I used to work in Fajardo on Tuesday's.

message 783: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments Aww Emilee, beautiful area. We wouldn't move for anything from here, we love it. Yes, I don't envy you at all for the cold! We did only hit 43 again today but it should warm up in a couple of days to the 70's again so that will be nice.

message 784: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments Oh Petra, I do hope it passes by quickly! Is this new for you or are you used to hurricanes (if you can say you get used to them)?

message 785: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I don't blame you Angela. We've lived here for almost 28 years and I still don't like to drive in the snow. If I'm all alone, I'm ok but when there is traffic, I'm very nervous. At least here if we get a good snow, it's always gone by the next day (usually, ha!). Two years ago we had a blizzard for 7 weekends in a row. The snow got so high we couldn't get out of the driveway and I had to hire a frontloader to dig us out. But that's unusual.

message 786: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments It got up to 85 yesterday and should hit that again today. Ya'll should move down here to the south I tell ya! lol My kids would love to see some snow sometimes. We get a little, but never enough to even cover the ground.
I will be thinking of you Petra and those hurricanes.

message 787: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Petra.
Funny story about your cat. It is so typical.
Stay safe.
Ann. This weather has been great (I'm here in Charlotte) but I am kind of looking forward to some chillier weather.
Used to live in Central NY so I have had enough snow to last a life time.
My kids love it though!!

message 788: by rebecca j (new)

rebecca j (technophobe) | 6029 comments It's been hitting 80 in se missouri all week, with lots of cloud cover! Not fair for the middle of October! I was looking forward to fall weather! Oh well, by tomorrow the high is supposed to drop to 65! That's MO, if you don't like the weather wait a day, it'll change.

message 789: by [deleted user] (new)

isn't the weather odd! Snow in Utah, colorado. 80 in Missouri, 70's in illinois & hurricanes down south.

Randome thought: I haven't been online a lot lately just here & there-I am so behind on all the threads! I don't know if I will ever get caught up!

message 790: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Petra, my mom's family is from Aguadilla and my dad's family is from Bayamon. I saw the news this morning and I think the storm went to the east of them onto the US Virgin Islands instead.

message 791: by rebecca j (new)

rebecca j (technophobe) | 6029 comments Random thought - my job is getting ridiculous lately! Seems like the teachers are all taking off for appointments in the middle of work - don't any of them know how to schedule around their work hours? They all seem so young and irresponsible, or is it just that I'm getting older?

message 792: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
ahhhh... the joys of aging... we forget what it was like to be 10 years younger....

I look at some of the people I work with, supervisors who are early twenties and want to smack them. They are always inviting us 'more seasoned" people to go out for drinks after work.

The one girl I work with actually had the balls to ask me what I do then, since I dont go out. I was like ..."Uhm.... spend time with my kids and husband, run errands, read books"..... She laughed and told me when I am 80 i am going to look back and regret missing the fun times with them.

I told her.. when I am 80, I will be enjoying time with my grandkids, and looking over my shoulder for the grim reaper, NOT regretting missing a few drinks with the people i worked with.

Geesh... Youngin's....

message 793: by [deleted user] (new)

My X husband was hanging out with a bunch of twenty years olds, I think he is having a midlife crisis, because he thinks it's fun to get drunk & vomit all night. I don't drink and don't miss the vomit from him nightly.

There is also a group of youngsters at work who go out and drink. They come in looking like @#*% the next morning and are so hung over. I can't believe they haven't been fired yet. One person calls in sick almost weekly because of hang overs.

I don't get it. That was my college days. Life is short you need to enjoy the little things- which are more important- like reading with my kids, reading with myself, playing games w/kids, ect.

Don't get some of younsters these days.

message 794: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Lori, I still have a 2 in front of my age(not for long anymore but still a couple of years) and I am already asked that question! I jsut don't like to go out after work or in the evening to go and drink...I mean ...I can be home, do what I feel like AND READ!!!!!!

message 795: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Somebody needs to explain me the logic of this:
You apply for at least ten vacancies and don't get an answer BUT you get a call for a job you didn't even knew about! AND two days after you send your first CV you still didn't get an answer for the jobs you applied for but you have already an interview ...for the job you didn't know about. Where is the logic??????

message 796: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Hope you're doing okay, Petra!

message 797: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Jeez!! This thing took off!!

Well here in NYC the weather is perfect. Today, as well as the passed week, has been mid 70's. Very Comfy.

Random Thought: I have been seeling a lot of my books online in which I hate selling books but I have only been selling guides and books that really didn't tickle my fancy. BUT never would I ever get rid of anthy other books!

message 798: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Donna, what website are you using to sell your books? I was thinking of getting rid of some and well, if I can make some money along the way even better.

message 799: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments Amazon is always good judt because everyone knows it. I like to sell on Half.com too but I tend to make more money with Amazon.

message 800: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Thanks, Donna! I will try that.
