AH | 71 comments Books 3,4 and 5 are where the story really improves. Stick with it - this is a series that only gets better as you read.

message 52: by Lauren (new)

Lauren The Kate Daniels series is probably my favorite UF series currently. Maybe tied recently by the October Daye series. I do think the later books get better, but I loved the first book, in part because the world was so different from the other UF fantasy worlds. I love the take on the vampires and that Andrews actually pulls from mythology groups other than "faery". She does her research so there are Indian, Russian, and even better - realistic representations of Celtic myth! By the end of book 2 the world is definitely fully established so it makes the later books so much easier to read because you understand the "rules". Don't give up! Keep reading! I don't say that for most series, because I firmly believe in first impressions but I think these books are easy enough to get through and worth it!

Lela | 2 comments I read all the books except magic slays and I enjoyed everyone of them

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Im really itching for the second book, it's on my wishlist :( Loved the first one.

Jo Anne | 22 comments I think the series is great. Fab Characters great killers, love those shapeshifters.. Hey what more can you ask for.

message 56: by VampireNovelFan (new)

VampireNovelFan | 23 comments Kate Daniels is top 3 for me (surpassed only by The Hollows and Fever as my favorite), if only because I'm not that big on shifters. But it is fabulous.

message 57: by Contrarius (new)

Contrarius | 44 comments IMHO it's okay. Not one of my favorites, not one of my least favorites. Not boring, for sure.

message 58: by Quick ben (new)

Quick ben (senseiping) | 5 comments They are my third favorite U.F after Dresden and October daye.Funny and full of action also has interesting bad guys.

message 59: by Cher (new)

Cher | 11 comments Amazing series and worth the read.I loved Characters and the world she built. Does anyone know when the next Kate book comes out?

message 60: by Kay (new)

Kay (red_robin_70) | 5 comments Kate 6 isn't out until early 2013 :( We do however have Andrea's book coming out next year, which, if the fantastic snippet we have seen is anything to go by, is going to be amazing!

Oh cool! I love Andrea! I really liked her short story too. It's one of the best I've read for short stories.

message 62: by Cher (new)

Cher | 11 comments I must be seeing things..Did you write 2013???
Is Andrea's story another short story or a full novel?

message 63: by Kay (new)

Kay (red_robin_70) | 5 comments Not seeing things I'm afraid, it really is 2013 for the next Kate book, but Andrea will getting a full novel :)

Samina The Story Devourer | 1 comments I dont want Andrea I want Kate.2013 is way too long.

message 65: by Jo Anne (new)

Jo Anne | 22 comments The Kate Daniel books are great. Writing is good and you get to cheer for the good guys.

message 66: by Susan (new)

Susan | 145 comments I loved the first book, and I already picked up the second one.

message 67: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie | 5 comments I actually love this series. I started first novel and thought it was just okay, but by the time I'd finished it, I was thrilled to find the second one was out and couldn't wait to get it.

I found that everything grew on me, the world, the magic and the way things worked in the world, especially the characters.

I may just have to reread the series while I wait for 2013! :)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I love the first book and want more of the series. If youre never able to get into it though, it just may not be your style.

message 69: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Wright IS IT GOOD?

It is everything that is good about the world!! It makes me happy to be alive! I have literally humped this book... oh sorry..

I love this series, but yes the first book is rather boring... after that it is awesome!!!!

message 70: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I've read the first 3 books and 2 novellas from this series in about a week. I'm halfway through the fourth installment...

message 71: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Wright The novellas? You mean the Curran POV's? Or are there actually novellas!?

I'm so excited.

message 72: by Laurel (new)

Laurel There is a novella prequel where Kate acts as Saiman's body-guard. There are also books 3.5 and 4.5. If you go to Ilona Andrews's page, it lists the names of the novellas and how to find them, (they're part of anthologies or available as ebooks).

message 73: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Wright Holy COW! I'm going right now! Thanks!

Not really novellas, but more like short stories in anthologies. This link will also help: http://www.goodreads.com/series/40691...

Those gray series' titles next to the black-text book's titles are links that will lead to you to other book in the series, both canon and non-canon.

message 75: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Wright Perfect! I found them.

Jean ~ Kindle Queen (jkat9) | 208 comments It's already listed in Goodreads! Magic Gifts (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews

message 79: by Kenya (new)

Kenya Wright OOOOOOOOO! That sounds really good!

message 80: by AH (new)

AH | 71 comments Just remember, book 1 is not their best work. They get better and better as you read on...

message 81: by Gin (new)

Gin I loved this series. It's one of my favorites, but I put the first book down twice before I finally read it.

message 82: by Laurel (new)

Laurel That novella was a lovely holiday gift to fans! Such a classy thing to do, not to mention, a great read!

message 83: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads) (jenniferbadbirdreads) | 81 comments I am actually very surprised some people aren't into this series. I know people have different opinions, so it's not that. I mean I literally have not met anyone who has disliked this series until I read comments on this group. (Well, amazon may have a few but very little). Personally this is the best urban fantasy series ever written. Two of the series books I actually give 6 stars (my rating system usually goes only to 5 stars) on my blog. They were too dang amazing to put in the category of 5 stars. But for those who don't like this series or Book 1 I hope you find a series that fits you better. Happy Reading!

message 84: by Chantal (new)

Chantal Halpin | 21 comments The Kate Daniels series is probably my fave ever too.

message 85: by BxerMom (new)

BxerMom Best series ever!!!!!

message 86: by Paula (new)

Paula (pauldajo) 'Magic Gifts' was a great read. Helped me get my Kate Daniels fix until the next book comes out. Hurry, Hurry!

message 87: by Laurel (new)

Laurel ^ this

message 88: by Emily (new)

Emily Pinhasi (emilypinhasi) | 7 comments i have a Q
are the books in this series are standalone? or is there a story that starts in book 1 and finish on the last (for comparison - harry potter start at 1 and finish at 7, mercy thompson are pretty much standalone books with only the same env.)

i ask this cause i hate starting a series that is not done yes. it feels like a book missing its last chapters and i prefer waiting for the whole series to come out.

message 89: by Gin (new)

Gin I'm pretty sure there weren't any cliff hangers. Each book just builds on the other, but has it's own story.

message 90: by Emily (new)

Emily Pinhasi (emilypinhasi) | 7 comments great! so i can list this one as my next-to-read
10X

message 91: by RIN ಠ_ಠ (new)

RIN ಠ_ಠ (wriggrin) | 60 comments Not really a standalone since you can't fully enjoy /understand the latter books without reading the front ones first. (imo)

But each book wraps up pretty well and doesn't leave an urgent cliffhanger.

message 92: by Emily (new)

Emily Pinhasi (emilypinhasi) | 7 comments yeah this is what i meant - i don't have to read the next book to finish the story. i would read from the beginning, just don't want to wait to next years book.

message 94: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (funlovinlady) | 19 comments you guys sure have it right, if you can make thru book one, you will be a total Magic Fan.

BTW, did any of you not like Magic Slays as much as you hoped? I did.

Gin Leslie wrote: "you guys sure have it right, if you can make thru book one, you will be a total Magic Fan.

I liked it, but not as much as the others. Not really sure why though. Maybe cause all the tension in her and curran's relationship is gone at this point.

Jean ~ Kindle Queen (jkat9) | 208 comments Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews was just so good and had so many revelations that I think it was a hard act to follow.

message 97: by Anika (new)

Anika (teddybear1) | 110 comments I liked Magic Slays just thought it was too short. I think the relationship between Curran and Kate it still intense even though they are officially together and no one trying to come between them. But I think I understand a bit what you are saying Gin.

Jean ~ Kindle Queen (jkat9) | 208 comments Davi wrote: "I only read Magic Bites so far, but I love the characters of Kate and Curran and the sort of love/hate thing that starts brewing between them."

Just wait. It gets better. : )

Jean ~ Kindle Queen (jkat9) | 208 comments Davi wrote: "I can't wait. Curran's really sexy in my mind's eye. And his attitude? lol."

Yep. I don't think you'll be disappointed. : )

message 100: by JB (new)

JB (jbwolf) | 2 comments My advice? Drop everything, head to the nearest bookstore, and buy the entire series, like, NOW. It's that damn good.
