One or both of the characters in the second one may have been girls. And although, I'm pretty sure it had to do with crows, maybe it was actually blackbirds?
I am nowhere near sure on this, but the second one makes me think of The Secret of the Seven Crows. Or possibly something else by Wylly Folk St. John. Does that sound at all familiar?
Lindsay, that definitely could be the book I was thinking of. I'll have to find a copy of it to make sure, though. Thanks!Anyone have anything on the golden apple one?
Nothing from Joey since 2011 - moving to Abandoned.

There are two children's chapter books that I remember really enjoying reading in Elementary School, probably sometime between 1993-1997. I think I remember both books being older though. I'd say with publication dates between 1940-1980 or so (though I could be wrong.)
One had references to the golden apple myth (maybe with Hercules?) and child protagonists, or at least I think it did. There was definitely an apple, potentially even in the title, and it may have even been able to talk. I think it may have also tied in some things about Eden, but I might have imagined that. I think I remember the cover being slightly Eric Carle-esque with blue, turquoise, purple, and I believe the golden apple. Anyone else remember that?
The second one had two friends solving some sort of mystery. I think it was the first time I read the phrase "murder of crows," and at one point the main character talks about his friend doing the sign of the cross when he gets scared, and the main character wishing he was Catholic so he could too.
I know these are both kind of vague, but for some reason these are the memories my mind decided to store about them.
If anyone thinks they remember either one, that'd be great!
Thanks!
Joey
