I Loved The Book Club! Great Book!
Ann, Memoirs of a Geisha is Wonderful! You will love it!

I just finished Southern Fatality: A Jersey Barnes Mystery by T. Lynn Ocean
They say it's suppose to be like Stephanie Plum. I didn't think so. I think it stands on it's own as a funny murder/mystery. There are similarities but the writing styles are very different.

Going to start..
Such a Pretty Fat: One Narcissist's Quest to Discover if Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big, or Why Pie is Not the Answer
It's a bookring so I need to get it done and mail it off.

message 4457: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Kellie- you should fly through that book. Have you read anything by her? I love her books. They are hilarious.

message 4461: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments Yes I have! She has her own blog which is called Jennsylvania and is just as funny as her books. She also recommends a lot of books on her blog, so I have added some to my TBR. Like I really need any more :)

message 4462: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Thanks!
I am defintely going to check out that blog!

message 4463: by She'Davia (new)

She'Davia Williams (redsoxocd) Today I finished Vainshing Acts by Jodi Picoult and I loved it. And I just started Keeping Faith by the same author.

message 4464: by Melanie (new)

Melanie She'Davia,
Hope you enjoy Keeping Faith - that's one of my favorites by her.

message 4465: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I love all of Jodi Picoults books. I have read them all, except TALES OF THE HUMPBACK WHALE. I tried and just could not get into it. I can't wait for her new one which comes out early 2009 about a mother and her child who is born with a deasease that affects her bones. I can't think of the name of this condition.

JG (Introverted Reader) I just finished The Thirteenth Tale (loved it, Maria!) and I'm starting Thunderhead by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child as soon as I get off here.

Hi Paula,

You will enjoy "The Art of Racing in the Rain" on audio. The reader has a really good voice and you just get taken in.

I was listening at work and towards the end was frantically wiping away a few stray tears before anyone noticed and thought something was wrong.

It's worth the wait.

I just finished "Heart Shaped Box" and "Dirty Job"

I'm not sure what to say about them. The ghost was scary in the Heart book, but found the story extremely depressing.

In contrast, "Dirty Job" was very light and funny. At times it was outlandish and stupid and sometimes very clever.

I was reading out of my comfort zone, but I don't know if I'll read these authors again. I just don't know...

Awww. Kim those are two books that I really enjoyed reading! Christopher Moore is at his best in A Dirty Job. If you didnt really care for that one, then there really isnt much hope for the others, IMO

message 4470: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 160 comments Just finished Dead until Dark which was really good.

Just started The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot and
American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld

message 4471: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (glinda) | 48 comments When I read TH and LOTR (when I was much younger) I loved them. For some reason I wasn't able to get into the movies at all. I must be the only person on earth who didn't love them.

message 4472: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments I am with you Kim. I am not so sure about Heart Shaped Box. I am still reading it but I jsut can't get into it but of course I have to finish it. I am too unsure whether or not I will read Joe Hill again

Not sure if anyone knows this but he is the son of Stephen King (they look a lot alike too)

message 4473: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (glinda) | 48 comments What do you think of it?

message 4474: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10621 comments Mod
Donna, pretty sure that was not a compliment to Joe, haa haa!

message 4475: by Sera (new)

Sera I am also reading the Heart-Shaped Box. I just finished the first part of the book last night, and the story is pretty messed up. Hill's writing actually reminds me of his father's, but in a much more amateurish kind of way. However, the story is definitely unique, and I'm curious to see how part 2 - "Ride On" - fares. This book is pure horror as compared to Dracula (which I just finished reading before this book).

message 4476: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Just started Just one look by Harlan Coben and have fallen right into this book. 32 pages into it I wish I didn't have plans for the day or I would just sit and keep reading.

Donna (dfiggz) | 1626 comments But when ur rich looks don't matter j/k!

message 4478: by Julie (new)

Julie (scrapsofhistory) I am trying to start the Garden Spells. It is harder to start this book than any other. But for some reason my job is getting in the way of my pleasure reading. I hate it when that happens.

message 4479: by Donna (new)

I finished The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse a little bit ago and really liked it. Once it got going I hated to put it down. Between yesterday and today I read more than half... You should check it out if you really like Moore and Adams and Martinez... all tongue in cheek, fun humor kinda craziness.

Now I am about to start Curse of the Tarantula. Mike is a goodreads author, so I am really looking foward to this one!

message 4481: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany I am on the last book of the Shopaholic Series. I am home sick for a few days and it is lighthearted reading that is helping the days pass quicker! I read Shopaholic and Sister yesterday, and I have about 60 pages left in Shopaholic and Baby. I have to admit, I didn't like Confessions of a Shopaholic, the first book in the series, very much. So I'm not quite sure why I even bothered to continue reading the books in the series but I did, and now I like them. Go figure!

message 4482: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I really liked the Shopaholic Series. I know some people found Becky annoying. I did too sometimes, but I thought overall the series was funny.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Right now I'm reading Naomi Novik's Empire of Ivory, but I'll probably finish it today. Next will probably be The Tainted Relic: An Historical Mystery. Although my knitting teacher just loaned me Twilight this morning.

message 4484: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melitious) I just finished What's A Ghoul to Do? and am planning on starting Demon's Are a Ghoul's Best Friend tonight.

message 4485: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Linda - Almost any Harlan Coben book is like that. Watch out work and anything else you have to do because it won't get done.

Susanna - I'm curious what you'll think of Twilight. Just keep in mind it's YA as you read it.

message 4486: by Krista (new)

Krista (findyourshimmy) | 382 comments I had to take a break from House of Leaves so I read Bliss by Lauren Myracle which turned out to be not so great. See my review for more info.

Then I read The Devouring by Simon Holt, which I LOVED! Fast-paced and I finished it in one car-ride (it was a long trip and no I was not the one driving).

Now I'm about 2/3 of the way through Old Magic by Marieanne Curley. I'm enjoying this sweet magical romance for YAs. I picked it up because the description reminded me of how I felt about the Twilight experience. All good!

Wow!! The Road is amazing!

I didn't want to put it down, and can't wait to get back to it. I'm sitting there thinking, "What is going on???" "What has happened?"

message 4489: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Thanks Laura. Am finding that out. No fast reader here, but am already 1/2 way through and can't stop, can't stop. Okay, so I am a bit crazed at the moment and it is pouring and gloomy here in TN, so what is a person to do but keep reading.

message 4490: by Beth (new)

Beth (stellahaws) | 9 comments Water for Elephants is an excellent book. I read it when it first came out with my sister-in-law. Anyway I really enjoyed it, I couldn't hardly put it down! I highly suggest that one next in the line up. :)

message 4491: by [deleted user] (new)

Kim, I read THE ROAD and it's one of the most intense reading experiences I've ever had.

message 4492: by Beth (new)

Beth (stellahaws) | 9 comments Hi guys I'm Beth, I'm one of the newbies.
Right now I'm trying to decide to decide which book to start reading. I just got Speaker for the Dead on a recommendation from my sister in law, It sounds a little different from what I normally read. Or just going back to one of the tried and true, Jane Austen books.
I also just finished reading Brisinger by Christopher Paolini. I really like that series his books get better and better the farther into the story you get. He has great character building. Anyway... Speaker for the Dead is what I think will be next.

JG (Introverted Reader) Fiona, I don't actually remember much about the plot of The Piano Tuner, but I fell in love with the language. I remember it having this dreamy, hot, and humid feel that was just perfect for the book.

message 4494: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Beth, I would wait to read Speaker for the Dead until you read Ender's Game which sets up Ender and Valentine's story. Those two are some of my absolute favorite books ever. I think Speaker for the Dead may be the least disappointing sequel since Empire Strikes Back.

message 4495: by Shary (new)

Shary (sharyfg) | 104 comments I'm about 250 pgs into House of Leaves. It is very different from anything else I've read. It took me a little while to get used to his writing style. I'm enjoying it.

message 4496: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) Kim - big mistake to read, or listen, to the end anywhere but in private, right? (I read it over the summer and loved it). Who was the voice of Enzo?

message 4497: by Cheri Howard (new)

Cheri Howard Just finished Light on Snow by Anita Shreve and I'm on to Marley & Me by John Grogan.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Fiona - the diary is available online, as a blog, believe it or not. www.pepysdiary.com Currently it's 23 October 1665!

I indeed decided to start The Tainted Relic: An Historical Mystery last night. It's a chain of connected short stories. Good so far.

message 4499: by Sherry (new)

Sherry I'm reading House of Leaves. Whoa!!! What a book! Hard to get into at first but the author is brilliant! Reading through his labyrinth of a book is proving to be quite a trip.

message 4500: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 314 comments Sheesh! I was 300 posts behind.

I am reading my monthly classic right now (part of my Book Challenge), Around the World in 80 Days. I hope to finish it tonight and then it's on to....

Lamb, by Christopher Moore. I need something humorous, light-hearted, and one I can't put down.

I just decided to stop reading my other currently reading, The Bourne Identity. I'm just not into it. I think it's just how I feel now--I'll get back into it soon.
