Right now I'm about halfway through "The Name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco. A little dense at first, but the payback is huge. The book turns into a real page turner, and of course Eco is a magnificent author.

Happy reading.
I'm still reading [book:The Blind Assassin|227614 by M. Atwood. I'm only about 120 pages in and thought about giving up since its moving a little slow, but I think I'll keep with it until the end. The writing is beautiful and I'm curious to see what will happen (so far just not much of a plot but alot of description).

Thanks! Did you read Foucault's Pendulum? That may be next for me.

Finished
.As scrumptious as the cover is, the book isn't that great. The first one in the series is still the best but it has been a nice ride with the Fuentes brothers.
Looks like everyone is in the process of reading some good books. I'm currently working on The Picture of Dorian Gray. I have two others that I started reading but am currently taking a break from
The End of Your Life Book Club. Perfect for book lovers and those who loved The Year of Magical Thinking - one of my favorites.
I started
by Lars kepler on the weekend. The read the Hypnotist book one in the series this past summer.
I finished Fool. It was hysterical. I only have two more of Moore's books to read. Now I'm reading Rage.

I read Perfect Chemistry and enjoyed it. Too bad to hear the other 2 aren't very good.
Just finished Immortal Zero: The Seven Stones. Very good for a new author. I want to get my hands on Mistborn, and I was thinking of rereading The Wheel of Time again for kicks.
Just finished reading Ray Kurzweil's new book How to Create a Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed. The book charts the progress of artificial intelligence, and points up how these machines are already operating according to the same principles as our brains. As our understanding of the brain continues to advance, Kurzweil argues, we will be able to use this knowledge to build machines that are ever more human-like--until, eventually, our machines will achieve human-level intelligence, and beyond. The book is inspiring and daunting all at once. I've written an executive summary of the book available here: http://newbooksinbrief.com/2012/11/27...Cheers,
Aaron
I finished reading
by Stef Penney this evening. Overall, I thought the novel was an interesting and mostly enjoyable read. There were some problems with it (not surprising in a debut novel), the plot became slow and tedious at times, there were too many characters - it was very hard to keep track of them all - and the author wrote all of her characters in the first person so sometimes it wasn't clear which character was doing the talking! I had to go back and re-read multiple chapters to figure out what was happening in the story, which was very annoying! The ending was very sudden. It came out of nowhere and it left too many storylines unresolved. I was left wondering WHERE is the rest of the story??? My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Next I'm going to start
by S.E. Hinton.
I'm currently reading Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. It was a gift from my mom a few days ago and so far I'm liking it, but it's one of those books I wish I had read when I was younger ;<
Asha wrote: "Hi Jennifer, I loved Gone Girl but The Casual Vacancy seems to be really draggy!"People seem to either love The Casual Vacancy or hate it. It took me a bit to really get into it. I liked that it was so character driven. Hope it gets better for you.
I just finished reading "The Devil's Necktie" and it totally kept me turning the pages. It's about a retired cop in LA who tries to solve the mystery of his ex-informant's murder, Mia. I was able to get it before publication which was great. Best part was it was only 99 cents. Definitely a steal! Here's a link if you're interested:

By some coincidence I have read and now finishing another book about mass shooting in schools performed by teenagers - We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver and now finishing So Much Pretty by Cara Hoffman. I did know about that is about first book, but had no idea about second book the same events. Very scary and sad books and so much close to reality, that's happening again and again and how community still can't prevent from this mascara no matter how often it start to happen.
Probably going to reread The Seven Stones by Croft. Can't get enough of the characters in that one. I'm also starting Beyond the Blue. I don't usually read historical fiction, but it was recommended to me by a friend. We'll see how it goes...
Claire wrote: "Interpreter of Maladies - Jhumpa Lahiri"Hi Claire, I read it recently and enjoyed it thoroughly. If you like to read short stories, you'll like this one!
Jennifer wrote: "Asha wrote: "Hi Jennifer, I loved Gone Girl but The Casual Vacancy seems to be really draggy!"People seem to either love The Casual Vacancy or hate it. It took me a bit to really get into it. I..."
I hope so Jennifer. This was one of the most awaited books from what I remember. Grabbed one as soon as I could but now almost on the verge of abandoning it.
I am currently reading The Thinara King, the second in a very good series of historical novels. So far it's great! I'm about halfway through. Highly recommended for fans of ancient Greece!

Yeah. The first one is the best without doubt. The second one isn't bad, you may want to try it. But the third just didn't sit with me. I recommend reading the epilogue though, it's worth it.

Mistborn is amazing. Don't stall it!
Currently reading
An enjoyable read but nothing out of the ordinary yet.
Carrie wrote: "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. This is FABULOUS so far!"I'm glad you're enjoying this book. It has been waiting on my Kindle to awhile now. I didn't realize how many good books I had on my Kindle until I went and inventoried what I had on my Kindle
I just finished Succulent Prey by Wrath James White
. That was a really weird book. It held my attention with a little bit of twist at the end but it turned my stomach at times also. I'm currently reading
I'm reading Haunted Christmas: Yuletide Ghosts and Other Spooky Holiday Happenings by Mary Crain. It's pretty interesting so far.
Just finished Capital Kill by Marc Rainier and loved it. Rainier is an attorney who doesn't get bogged down by too much legal jargon. The book was tense, tight and terrific all the way to the end.If you are interested, it is a bit difficult to find unless you go to the Kindle Daily Offers. Don't know why, but this one is not in paperback. I would highly recommend follow ups if the writing stays this course. Gave it a 5.
