Samantha Leighanne (sleighanne) I started The Fellowship of the Ring today, for a book club. I'm STILL not done with The Pillars of the Earth like I wanted to be. I don't even know if I'm 50% done. :/

Kristin (kgansor) | 310 comments I just started Sweetheart (Gretchen Lowell, #2) by Chelsea Cain .. not a lighter read like I had wanted, but at least this one wont make me cry!
And I should get through it fairly quick.

Claire it did sound interesting but once I got into it, it was just a lot of speculation. A lot of questions asked that could not be answered and a lot of repetition. I got in about 50 pages and thought I'd skip ahead a little and maybe it would change but it didn't. I was very disappointed because I was looking forward to it.

I really enjoyed the Fellowship of the ring and look forward to reading Pillars of the earth. How do you like it so far?

message 23856: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Not S. Leighanne, but I'm also reading The Pillars of the Earth and am really enjoying it so far. I was shocked at how easy it was to get into. Even though it's about 1000 pages, it moves at a very good pace. For me, it hasn't had one boring part and I've got about 250 pages to go.

message 23857: by Jason "Book Sniper" (new)

Jason "Book Sniper" (booksniper) | 21 comments Thanks Alisha, Ive been avoiding this book because of the length... you just motivated me to add it to my next tbr book :)

message 23858: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bexsi) I have finished Swallowing Darkness (Meredith Gentry, #7) by Laurell K. Hamilton Swallowing Darkness I was delighted to pick up this book and find not only little sex, but a fast paced, hectic and actually exciting and absorbing read. The main storyline is being stretched way too far now, but hopefully the next book will bring it to an end so I gave it 3 stars
The Hunger (My Story) by Carol Drinkwater The Hunger Phylly is a fourteen-year-old girl living in Ireland in 1845. Phylly fights to keep her spirits up through her family's struggle for survival and even experiences the wonder of first love. 4 stars
Awakened (House of Night, #8) by P.C. Cast Awakened Stevie Rae and Rephaim, I felt like somthing was missing 4 stars
Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Angels' Blood fresh and original but it didnt grip me from the start 3 stars
I have started Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost Halfway to the Grave this definitely has a grip on me from the start.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Finished Morality for Beautiful Girls, and now am probably on to Major Pettigrew's Last Stand.

I was just about to add this to my list. Glad I kept reading the thread. Too bad it wasn't well executed, sounded like an interesting book.

message 23863: by Madeline (new)

Madeline | 293 comments I read Blood and Chocolate in a day. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the main character's mental journey, from extreme self assurance to self-loathing, back to acceptance. A very teenage transition.

Now I'm reading Cover Her Face and Dracula. I usually don't do two at a time, but I keep forgetting to bring the former and I have Dracula on my iphone. I'm the farthest into Dracula so far, and the ride up to the castle was deliciously creepy!

Kristin, I will definitely continue with Stephanie Plum! She's so much fun, and I love the culture of her neighborhood.

message 23864: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 481 comments i finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane last night, and i really liked it. a very intriguing story that was told very well.

i'm finishing up a fluff read tonite, Love Me if You Dare by Carly Phillips. it's ok, nothing special, but it helps me feel like i'm getting some reading done!

It's been awhile since I've read AD...she hasn't faded one bit....bird-headed dwarfs, the Peking Man, GOD.
I rest my peace.

Getting ready to start Helen of Troy

Oooooh, that sounds interesting! My family has vacationed in the Outer Banks ever since I was a little girl and we used to go to the "Lost Colony" play every summer (http://www.thelostcolony.org/)--I'm definitely adding this book to my TBR list!

ETA: just read your second post...maybe not.

E(again)TA: Ew, just read some GR reviews of this book. Definitely will not add to TBR list--I detest poor writing. Dang.

I really wanted to like it but it just wasn't for me. I'll look for something else though, I'd like to read about it.

message 23870: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments Mary, I'm really bummed that it wasn't written in a way to make it interesting. She asks a lot of questions and then just makes conjectures, there's no factual evidence. Oh well, maybe something else will come up on the subject and be better.

I have the same thing since I got my Sony ereader. Suddenly I'm reading several books at once (and fast!), depending on the mood I'm in...
I almost finished girl with a pearl earring, still reading in Sense and Sensibility/Breaking Down and a few books with shorter stories/coloms

Scott | 257 comments I just finished Wizard and Glass. This is really an epic story.

I think I'm going to read Catching Fire next.

I need something lighter to read and by that I mean about 400 pages lighter.

Finsihed Handling the Undead by John Ajvide Lindqvist and also working on Ex Machina, Vol. 2 Tag by Brian K. Vaughan and Scalped Vol. 4 The Gravel in Your Guts by Jason Aaron and DMZ Vol. 4 Friendly Fire by Brian Wood

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, and enjoying it so far.

message 23877: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Hollyberry | 60 comments Very interesting about the Roanoke story. My family comes from coastal northern NC, and there is a story come down on my mother's side of a very dry year in the swamps when hunters (great or great-great uncles of her father I believe) could go further on land than they ever remembered going before. Supposedly they found a tombstone that said Virginia Dare on it. Probably apocryphal but still fascinating to me.

Madeline | 293 comments Christy, I think it is only a matter of weeks before I start A Game of Thrones. I've had it on my shelf for a couple years now, and with the new TV series coming out I'm itching to start it. Only draw back is I'm not sure I'm ready for such a dense read right now. Glad to see someone who likes it though, helps move me closer to picking it up!

I really enjoyed the first one, this one is ok so far, but it's not really pulling me in like the first one did. I am only about 50 pages into it though (before I fell asleep!) so hopefully it will pick up! I will still read her next two books regardless though.

Sorry to hear its a disappointment, Paula. It does sound like a good book by the title, but guess I'll pass this one by.

This book is a real page turner. It is set in Poland and follows a family of Jews trying to survive against first the Russians then the Nazis. I do not know if I would be as strong as Clara

I picked it up because I saw the HBO preview. I'm so glad I did. They are VERY long and involved books, but such good reads. It almost reads like historical fiction with a little fantasy thrown in.

message 23898: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Hollyberry | 60 comments still working on Scotland: The Story of a Nation. It is very entertaining and fun to read, which is good considering the size! It isn't exactly the story of Scotland - it isn't about the land and people really. It is exclusively about the powerful nobles, a few very prominent others, and the royal family. So, a political history. I had really no idea Scottish history was this wild.
