Paula | 1098 comments I'm reading "The Judge Who Stole Christmas" Randy Singer and listening to "The Gift" Cecelia Ahern. Both have been good and are getting me into the Christmas spirit.

Carol I am starting The Brothers Karamazov today. and I am still reading Stone's Fall. I still won't be joining the group read for next month, but I hope to get to "The Sun Also Rises" within the next few months.

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I just finished Her Fearful Symmetry and really liked it. I thought it was a very well-written, spooky, ghost story. Now I'm going to start The Vyne: Mystery of the Hidden Ember, which was a First Reads win.

message 23658: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 212 comments Finally starting last sacrifice!

message 23659: by KHoopMan (new)

KHoopMan (eliza_morgan) | 151 comments My goal for 2010 was to read 25 books. I just realized that I have 6 days to go and 3 books to read!! I'm on vacation and the Northeast is enjoying a blizzard, so maybe-just maybe- I can do it! First up is Life of Pi. Hope everyone had a great holiday : )

message 23660: by Sasha (new)

Sasha I like Life of Pi! Good luck!

message 23661: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) I loathed Life of Pi and wanted to set it on fire. I almost threw my copy against the wall, but the fact that I was reading a PDF on my laptop stopped me in time.

In celebration of getting a Kindle for Christmas, I have decided to start a book on my Kindle, so I am currently reading too many books again. My Kindle book happens to be The Year She Fell. So far I'm only two chapters in, but it is interesting and the writing is at least decent. It's kinda nice having to keep reading the chapters in order to know when a chapter ends - it keeps me from obsessively counting the number of pages I have left before I finish that chapter and saves me probably 10 minutes per chapter.

On top of this I still have The Wake of Forgiveness, One Hundred Years of Solitude, The Little Book, and Citizens of London going. I'll finish a certain two of those books eventually...

message 23662: by Steph (new)

Steph (somethingplace) | 79 comments I thought Life of Pi was good in the end but the first few chapters made me want to throw it as well.

I'm reading Lady Oracle and St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves: Stories which I got for Christmas. I love the titles and the book is just as imaginative.

message 23664: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1098 comments I'll be starting "Room" Emma Donohue later today.

message 23665: by Kaion (new)

Kaion (kaionvin) Caity, I think I did throw the book multiple points. Probably first when certain people convened at the zoo much to Pi's discomfort. Bah. What a wannabe-deep book.

message 23666: by Mary (new)

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments I just finished Cloud Atlas yesterday and re-started Black Swan Green, which I had set aside many weeks ago. Next up is The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet and then I'll be done with David Mitchell until he writes a new one. (I'm not interested at all in Ghostwritten and haven't heard too many positive comments about it.)

message 23667: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) Ooh, Mary, I'd be interested in hearing about Thousand Autumns... It's one that has recently caught my eye.

message 23668: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I put down The Vyne: Mystery of the Hidden Ember because I was finding it boring and started reminding me of second-rate Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I'm going to start reading The Shining. It seems appropriate with the snowstorm going on outside.

message 23669: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (bexsi) I have finished Wild Magic (Immortals, #1) by Tamora Pierce Wild Magic An immensely enjoyable read 4 stars
Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs Cry Wolf there are so many character holes you start to wonder if you have just caught the "punchline" and missed the main event 2 stars
The Shack by William P. Young The Shack I quite enjoyed it , but found some of the religious ideas difficult to fathom 3 stars
Beastly by Alex Flinn Beastly This book was recommended to me by a friend for a reading challenge and I am so glad I read it. I found the book which was written in the Beasts point of view to be an enlightening read 4 stars
I have started Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins Catching Fire and Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin Once Bitten, Twice Shy

message 23671: by Donna (new)

Donna | 2 comments I'm reading Louise Erdrich's Shadow Tag. I bought it for my husband for Xmas because I wanted to read it. DH loves Louise Erdrich, but as soon as he read the end flap, he knew that I had really bought it for myself. BUSTED!

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments LOL, Donna. That's funny!

message 23673: by Diane (new)

Diane (readergirl235) Just started Salting Roses, by Lorelle Marinello. I got a free advance copy through my librarything.com membership, so now I've got to read and review it. So far, (34 pages), I like it. The story grabs you immediately--you're thrown right into the action. I hope it continues in this interesting, quick read vein.

message 23674: by Clara (new)

Clara | 157 comments I am in between books. I am finishing with A Window Across the River. Not bad so far, I am on page 77. After getting stuck with The elegance of the Hedgehog, I need something light. I think my next read should be Louise Shafferor Pursuit of Happiness. One of them is bound to be good. They told me so much about Serendipity I really hope it won't disappoint me.

message 23675: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 14 comments I just finished Tyger Tyger (Goblin Wars, #1) by Kersten Hamilton for NetGalley and really enjoyed it. Now I'm reading In the Forests of the Night (Den of Shadows, #1) by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes . Hmmm...I see a title theme here. :)

I enjoyed it also Brenda and just added "The Justice Game" by Singer as a free download to my Kindle.

message 23679: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (sir_reads_a_lot) | 509 comments I am currently reading For One More Day by Mitch Album. I am actually pleasantly surprised after reading Tuesday's with Morie...which I found less then satisfying. Album takes the prospective of an ex-pro baseball player to tell his story, and I never want to put it down...maybe it is because I feel like I am snooping into this persons life, I don't know.

Recently finished The Orange Eats Creeps - which was a bit beyond my taste range...

and now diving right into The Visiting Suit: Stories From My Prison Life - which has really grabbed my attention.

Both are from indie publisher Two Dollar Radio (a great press with kickass novels!)

The Ha Ha was a great read! I really fell in love with the character - so frustrated and so warm-hearted!

KHoopMan (eliza_morgan) | 151 comments Goal: 25 books in 2010. 22 down, 3 to go. Finished and LOVED Life of Pi...just remembered that I read Gossip Girl over the summer and was too ashamed to add it to my list on this site, so good news- 1 book to goal!! (Yes, I'm still ashamed of Gossip Girl... it was terrible and I hated it, but I am using it for my 25!)

I am now reading A Simple Plan.

Good for you. You met your goal. I am hoping to read about 15 books next year since I know I am a slow reader.

Suzanne (thisoilfieldwife) | 134 comments I finished God Still Don't Like Ugly and am now starting God Don't Play, the next book in the God Series by Mary Monroe.

message 23694: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I am currently reading Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. I don't know if it's because I'm tired from all teh travelling or what but I'm not entirely feeling the novel (if that makes any sense) at the moment. Might take a break from it, I don't know.

message 23696: by Mary (last edited Dec 30, 2010 05:32PM) (new)

Mary (madamefifi) | 358 comments I'm reading The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet--it's lovely! But this morning I came home all tired from work and felt like something light so I started My Fair Lazy: One Reality Television Addict's Attempt to Discover If Not Being A Dumb Ass Is the New Black; Or, A Culture-Up Manifesto, which is amusing. I also read Underwear: Fashion in Detail last night at work, which was interesting, with gorgeous photos, but inexpicably did not address the "bullet bra" of the 1950s at all---a shocking oversight IMO.

message 23697: by KHoopMan (new)

KHoopMan (eliza_morgan) | 151 comments Aw, thank you guys for the support! I sat down to read The Simple Plan and didn't get up until it was done...it was honestly that suspenseful!

message 23698: by Scott (new)

Scott | 257 comments Catie wrote: " Scott, how are you liking the Dark Tower series? I think that Wizard and Glass was my favorite."

I hated The Gunslinger. I read it over 20 years ago and never continued the series because of my hatred for it. I reread it a couple of months ago and still did not like it but everyone told me that it really picks up with the second book. I agree and have been continuing the series ever since. I don't think that the series was King's best work, as some people think, but it is a good story once you get by the first book.

By the way, I thought Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal was one of the funniest books I've ever read.

I loved The Dark Tower Series, and I thought that it was some of his best work. Not THE best, but some of the best. I want to reread this series, I just have so much else to get through.
