I'm about 100 pages away from being done with Inkdeath and while I have enjoyed the book it feels like it will never end.
Toni wrote: "Reading Huckleberry Finn (ugh) and Wuthering Heights (better)."Toni, I absolutely hated The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn when we read it in high school, but gained greater appreciation for it when I had to reread it four years later in college. Wuthering Heights, on the other hand... I have attempted that one twice and failed to finish both times. Good luck with both!
Finished MOLOKA'I and gave it 4 stars. Also read THE MANY LIVES AND SECRET SORROWS OF JOSEPHINE B. by Sandra Gulland and gave it 3 stars. Now am reading PRIVATE by James Patterson.Kind of slow start.
Finished People of the Book and really liked all the little side stories of the books history but didn't care for Hanna's portions. Started The History of Love and finished it in a day which is something I haven't done with a book in awhile. I was excited to pick this up and it was wonderful even though it was a little confusing at times.
Still reading The Sweet Far Thing and deciding what other book I want to read next.
I just finished Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman and I'm currently reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke as well as Minder by Kate Kaynak. As soon as I receive my copy of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick I will start reading that one asap!
I really enjoyed Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell as well. I finished reading The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette and Embroideries. Both light, interesting books.
I'm currently reading Three Seconds, which I won in a Giveaway. I'm really enjoying this book. It's a Swedish crime (drugs/mafia) thriller that is suspenseful and detailed and very "real to life" (not Hollywoodish and gun-slinging, etc).
Catie and Petra,Glad to hear you enjoyed Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I'm only about 60 pages in and so fair I'm definitely intrigued! Thanks for your input.
Catie, well it's still early in he month so you have some time still but don't put it off too long! :P
Thanks ladies.
I'm almost done rereading High Fidelity. I forgot how much I love this book. It's a quick read and it's pretty funny.
Hi everyone,i finished "THE STONE DIARIES"by CAROL SHIELD,this book was just wonderful.I am reading THREE JUNES BY JULIA GLASS.
Flora wrote: "I'm about 100 pages away from being done with Inkdeath and while I have enjoyed the book it feels like it will never end."I wish it had felt like that for me because I didn't wanted to read on because I didn't wanted it to end!

Hi Stephanie, what was it about Hanna that made you feel that way? This is my favourite book of the writer (read years of wonder which is second position and jsut finsihed March which is 3rd position for me) and absolutely loved Hanna as character. You are right that the history told beside it is great! it is one of those books which makes you go on the internet constantly or makes you put all related books on your tbr list!
I'm currently reading Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine. It's one of my mum's favourite books, and my sister read it recently and enjoyed it. So now it's my turn...!I'm also reading a couple of books for uni, but I don't really count them!
I recently started reading The Battle for Christmas. I am also currently reading The Gargoyle and The Wishing Trees. I recently finished The Weight of Silence it was wonderful :o)
Sarah Kate wrote: "I'm currently reading Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine. It's one of my mum's favourite books, and my sister read it recently and enjoyed it. So now it's my turn...!I'm also reading...
I've had this one on my list forever and keep hearing good things about it. I'll have to move it up for next year.
I'm starting The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. I hope it's good. I've been having a hard time lately and I need something to take my mind off of drama.
I finished PRIVATE by James Patterson and I was not a fan. 2 stars... Now am reading A MURDEROUS PROCRSSION by Ariana Franklin.
I'm reading: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Dragon Wing (my husband is a huge fantasy fan and asked me to check out this series...so far so good!).

There was just something about her that irked me. She seemed full of herself and I was tired of reading about her credentials and her colleagues and where they went to school and how they were famous for this and this. Just irritated me I guess. I did appreciate how the author left things with her mother in the end; because I'm a firm believer that happy endings don't always exist and just because someone is a blood relation doesn't mean they deserve the right to treat you like crap.
I looked for [book:March at the library but it was out so I picked up Year of Wonders. Have you read that one?
For now I've started The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox.
I finished Black Girl/White Girl by Joyce Carol Oates. I ended up only giving it 2 stars. Now I'm reading Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. So far I'm enjoying it.
Patricia wrote: "I finished Black Girl/White Girl by Joyce Carol Oates. I ended up only giving it 2 stars. Now I'm reading Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. So far I'm enjoying it."Ender's Game is a book that I need to add to read list! Thanks Patricia! I hope you enjoy it. Let me know how it is.
Since I'm planning on writing a detective novel soon, I've just bought a few award-winning mysteries for inspiration:The Ice House
Fox Evil
Raven Black

Years of wonder was the first one I read and for now my second favourite. I thought it so so when reading it but the whole story was very beautiful told. Enjoy!

The ice house is very good I think.
I just finished The Lost Hero which I loved. I can't hardly wait for the next one to come out next fall. Currently I have just started The Tombs of Atuan
I'm reading Woof! Writers on Dogs. There are some very cute stories in there. I am reading it while I am waiting for a book to come in that I ordered from the library, it's called Fallen Angel: The Unlikely Rise of Walter Stadsnick and the Canadian Hells Angels.
I finished The Wish List which was light and not really my thing. Now I want to start my ARC of Angelfire
I just finished The Venom of Vipers, a very good sci-fi story from an independent author. Now onto The Waste Lands.
Catie wrote: " Krist wrote: "I think I was mostly disappointed bc I've read books she writes under another name, I believe it's Madeliene Wickham or something like that." Kristi, what's your favorite Madelei..."
I just went to look, to see/remind myself which ones, storylines, etc, and realized I hadn't put any of them on my list! So, I just starred them based on the synopsis and what I remembered as the story.
Cocktails for Three was the one I remembered the best. To me that means it was the story I liked the best, got into the most, and it stuck in my head.
Alisha wrote: "Kristi wrote: "I've had to set aside TBC to conquer some group reads. So right now I'm reading: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

So far it's (I Captured the Castle) is really good. It's with a weekly book club, so I can only read 1/3 at a time. That can get frustrating at times, bc I just want to jump ahead. Lol.
Anyways, so far I'm enjoying it!
Felicity wrote: "I'm reading A Tale of Two Cities."Great stories. Great Expectations was good, but "A Tale of Two Cities" I thought was great!
I can't stand Charles Dickens, I think he's a windbag. I think my English degree readings ruined him for me. I read a lot of tedious fiction by him.
Danielle wrote: "I can't stand Charles Dickens, I think he's a windbag. I think my English degree readings ruined him for me. I read a lot of tedious fiction by him."I tried Dickens for more than 10 years, throught my teens. Hated him. Strangely enough I always loved TV adaptations of his works. Then one day in my 20s I picked up one of his books and loved it.
I couldn't decide what to start next, so I ended up reading three. I've just started on False Memory, In the Time of the Butterflies, and Phineas Finn: The Irish Member, Volume 1
The Fire was a nice little read. Now I'm on to Jack, Knave and Fool, by Bruce Alexander. Another historical mystery.
I finished Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card which I thought was really good. Now going to move on to Sula by Toni Morrison.
Ugh. Reading I Hotel now and want to stab myself. Its 670 pages long and is told in 10 novellas, covering the story of Asian American's struggle for civil rights in the late 60's and 70's in San Francisco. I have started reading this 3 times and am only on page 26. I've spent about 3 hours attempting to read it and have managed to fall asleep 3x. Unfortunately, its the choice for my book club and I need to finish it in a week and half.
Susanna wrote: "The Fire was a nice little read. Now I'm on to Jack, Knave and Fool, by Bruce Alexander. Another historical mystery."I adooooooored The fire!
Bridgit, sounds like you got a tough row to hoe. Look up spoilers on Wikipedia and fake it? Life's too short for 670-page books you don't like.
I am reading Fall of Giants and I absolutely can't wait to have that thing over with. I haven't been overly impressed with it; although, I know there are many fans of this book out there. I am thinking about reading The Confession.
Finished Sout of Broad by Conroy. Excellent characters and a bit of a chilling plot. When I get around to starring it, it will be a 4 or 5 .
Oh. Right. Hehe... I kinda disappeared for a while, cause I'm cool like that.Oddly enough, I am *still* working my way through Citizens of London: The Americans Who Stood with Britain in Its Darkest, Finest Hour. I actually haven't touched it in months because it's so heavy and hard for me to get through. I've also picked up One Hundred Years of Solitude, except I haven't managed to get myself to read that in months, either, because the first 40 pages were such a drag to get through. I will definitely not be keeping either of these once I finish. Citizens of London will go to my mom and stepdad, the other I'll just try to dump off on some poor sod on eBay or something.
The books I DO really like that I've been reading (even though they're taking forever for me to get through, as well, because I never seem to want to read anymore) are:
Dear Exile : The True Story of Two Friends Separated (for a Year) by an Ocean (loving the letters between the two women, I should really finish this one soon, although I doubt I'll keep it)
The Little Book (pleasant surprise, especially since I picked it up for $3 at Big Lots)
Dead Until Dark (terrible writing, but I'm enjoying the story enough to look past that)
